  • Entertainment: The Island Groove is our live band who performs the top 40’s hit songs from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s as well as current hits. The cover charge is $5 per person on Sunday, Wednesday, & Thursday beginning at 8:00pm and $7 per person on Friday & Saturday beginning at 8:00pm. Please keep in mind that once the band starts the cover charge applies to all guests in the restaurant and the bar regardless of the time they arrive.

The manager came by to check on our table and when he learned we were there for a bachelorette party, the bride to be was treated to a little dessert. The live music was catchy and fun and made for an all around wonderful evening."

  • "This a great place for a special occasion. We were celebrating a 70th birthday and had a group of 6 people. Service was excellent, food was great, and certainly well presented. Having been around since 1945 this place is "old school" and good for all ages. What really made the place for us was the fantastic band playing on the boat that floats on a lagoon in the middle of the restaurant. This is a good place for tourists as well as locals who have been going to dinner there for several decades."

  • "Although I grew up in San Francisco, it took me 40 years to visit the famed Tonga Room. The service and ambiance were wonderful. The manager introduced himself to us, letting us know he was constantly on the floor, and would assist us in any way. My husband and I shared the ohana (family) menu and I would highly recommend it. You get a taste of all their best dishes, appetizers, and dessert for $67 per person. I had my first hurricane drink, which was the best. They house-make the passion fruit syrup. The alcohol didn't overpower the blend of flavors. We enjoyed the rain, thunder, and lightning that happened very 20 minutes. I would highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "The food is good. Not spectacular. And portions are medium, at best. Service is friendly but, our server was not very helpful with the menu or suggestions. And, while it was nearing closing time for the restaurant (the bar is open an hour later) but still about 6 parties eating, the help kept trying to take away our dishes before we were finished. The live 3-piece band was actually quite good at playing popular 60s, 70's and 80's music. But, they were pretty loud and it was not easy to have a continuous conversation across the table. It is a fun place though, and I would go back. However, the one gripe I really have is, they have a cover charge of $5 per person - even if you spend $150 on dinner and drinks (which we did)."

  • "What disappointed me the most was that for the almost 2 hours we were there the place was 85 to 90% full. If all of those people think this is what a good Tiki place should be then the Tonga Room should be shuttered quickly as it doing a GREAT dis-service. The Tonga Room should be leading the way in quality in every respect, but with large crowds they have no driving force to be better - so sad. The decor is great and the only reason I didn't rate them lower. The drinks were overly sweet, missing completely in what makes a great Tiki drink - which is balance. The food was over priced based on both the quality (poor) and portion size (minuscule). The band - mediocre at best."

  • "Girlfriend was blown away and she was super happy. Ok it must have been just out dish , I have been here before , we had a lump of salt which I think must have been an accident. So offcourse the food wasn't great and the servers are too busy . The drinks and ambience made up for it. Btw there is a 7$ cover charge for the band per person."

  • "A quaint room with floating band and rainstorm is the only positive thing I can say about this place. The food was appalling. The green papaya salad was mostly stale red cabbage in a gluggy mayo with a few strands of not green papaya. The red curry of pork loin consisted of white rubbery strips of pork(?) with a small amount of a horrible tasteless sauce sauce sticking to the strands--, like eating rubber bands in glue. Of course we each ate only one strand. The staff mercifully did not enquire about why we left the food almost untouched."

  • "No great dining tables available for two on a Friday night, even with Opentable reservation. We agreed to sit in the bar area, which had a rowdy crowd. We felt rushed by our server to seat others waiting and looking over our shoulders. We wanted to enjoy the live band, wonderful music, ambience and dance a little. We just gave up and left, allowing most out-of-towners to enjoy the scene. We locals can always come back maybe during HH next time. Small portions of food charging steep prices, just didn't want to feel rushed when we also paid a cover fee. Should treat patrons the same all around, even when not staying at Hotel."

  • "Although the atmosphere was fun, I was underwhelmed with our experience. After looking at the extensive menu online, We were presented with a limited menu. It made it challenging to find something appetizing for the teenagers in our group. Our server really pushed the "foo-foo" drinks for adults and minors, which were okay (pinacoladas were served over ice, not blended, which was surprising considering how much they charge). The food was fine. I was distracted by the thunderstorm sound effects. Tropical music would be more pleasant and a little less "Rainforest Cafe." There was nothing on the dessert menu that appealed to us, so we passed (even the teenagers). Good decision, it kept our bill to just under $300 for the four of us."

  • "Crazy that a place would be booked solid on a random Sunday night but it was because it is incomparable. This may be one of the world's first theme restaurants. Beautifully appointed Polynesian theme decor with impeccable service and delicious food. The mango glazed mahi mahi over coconut risotto and the king pao beef were terrific. Really fun for well behaved kids. The periodic rainstorm over the pool adds to the cheeky yet elegant vibe. Everyone in our party left with big smiles on out faces and it wasn't just because the tropical cocktails were so good!"

When my 9 year old daughter wanted egg rolls but they weren't on the menu, he got her some from the happy hour buffet. When she and my 7 year old wanted ice cream for dessert he went to the hotel kitchen to get them each a big bowl of ice cream. He really went above and beyond to accommodate us and make it a great experience! Highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "The Tonga Room is the place to be in Nob Hill-- maybe even San Francisco! We went down on Friday night to just check it out, and ended up sitting in the bar immediately because miraculously there was a table! We grabbed a drink, and made dinner reservations for Sunday. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was spirited. It was a fun place to hang out and enjoy dinner and cocktails. The band playing the oldies and Motown hits was the icing on the cake!"

  • "It's an exciting feeling to go to a restaurant so highly rated by Anthony Bourdain (don't trust him anymore) for the umbrella drinks. Firstly, the drinks are really just okay tasting: Mai Tai's at the Fairmont in Maui are MUCH better than here. The descriptions of the drinks don't match what they taste like either. Food is just plain ol expensive and don't taste as good as any mall type Asian food does. Very disappointing, Anthony Bourdain."

  • "The negative is cost, so will say that up front. But we went in expecting that. Couple with two possibly picky teens. We did the Ohana Family style meal which was a good choice as we got to try various things. We all liked the food and thought it was quite good. The service with our waiter Ken was fabulous! Over the top excellent service from him and others. The entertainment you pay extra for (band) on boat on water. Music was too loud but fun and good music. We all really enjoyed our meal and time there so that made the $$$$ worthwhile. Glad we went."
