  • "The sushi was outstanding, although we weren't wowed with generous portions. However, I was disappointed with the atmosphere for a special occasion. It was loud and we felt like we were eating with the people at the tables on either side of us since they were so close. Unlike many other fine dining spots in Atlanta the staff did not go out of their way to acknowledge the event we were celebrating aside from a complimentary dessert. (Which we appreicated, but other places stand out for going out of their way to make a special occasion...special). Trendy spot. Exceptional sushi. Just not where I'd recommend you celebrate a birthday, anniversary or have a romantic dinner."

  • "Best sushi in Atlanta, hands down. Ask for May as your waitress. You won't be steered wrong."

  • "Tomo has always souirced the finest and freshest fish. Thatis the reason it is a bit more expensive than other JApanese restaurants. But it is worth it. Impeccable service from servers who have been there since it opened in Vinings years ago. In a class by itself."

  • "Nicely affiliated on a Ritz Carlton Property and great location in Buckhead. Salmon Cucumber appetizer was excellent and the Sushi was on par but not spectacular. The perpendicular seating along the windows is probably necessary due to the spacing of the building. I felt we were too close to a neighboring table. Nice drink selection but Dessert menu was very limited."

  • "A fabulous experience. We will make this a regular spot. Great food. Great service. Yum."

  • "Not an inexpensive restaurant, but the food quality and freshness is why. This is the best sushi restaurant I have ever been to - and I have been to a lot! Largest / best saki menu I've seen. If you want traditional, Americanized sushi with a lot of sugary sauces on the rolls this is not the place for you. The food is very authentic and you get the true natural flavor of the fish. There are not a lot of rolls on the menu but the appetizers are the best part and you could easily make a meal of a few of them. Extremely creative food and presentation. Would recommend 100%. Dress is business casual or better, seems to be a hot spot for the see and be seen crowd. Absolutely make a reservation."

  • "We were lucky enough to get to see the tail end of tuna Tuesday. It was great as always."

  • "This was voted one of Atlantas top restaurants, but we found the sushi to be average and nothing special. The presentation is nice and they fly fresh fish in, but the flavors were average, and unfortunately for us we were there on the last day before a new shipment came in. The ambiance is very nice, but loud and hard to hear. Our service was particularly poor. I don't think our waitress was the norm for the restaurant, but she left a lasting bad impression."

  • "We went for my wife's birthday and it was a great experience. We had the sampler (reasonably priced at $50/ea) and it really made for a great "event". We got several courses brought out one at a time. Obviously the sushi was the highlight, but the lamp chop and cod were also excellent."

  • "we meet there as a party of three - we really enjoyed the food and the friendly service - but if you eat and eat all the great food they offer you end up paying quite a bit - bit it's worth the spend!"

  • "We were very disappointed with this dinner. When we asked our server for recommendations, she pointed to the most expensive things on the menu, literally in descending order - as if the menu was rank ordered by price. When our food arrived, we thought for sure we were missing half of it - and it wasn't even very good! So then we ordered some things we knew would be at least fine - a california roll and a spicy tuna roll - and the server told us "it wasn't a good order because we could get it anywhere." Well, that may be so, but we want it here because the rest of the things on your menu just aren't tasty and at least those are a known quantity! $100+ later, we left hungry and annoyed. We will certainly not be back!"

  • "I made a reservation through OpenTable for Tomo for a Tuesday night. Upon arrival we were seated promptly at their booth seating. The service was very good... Our waitress was very friendly, made us comfortable, and frequently checked up on us throughout our entire meal. The only thing that was a downside was the price of food for the amount of food received... A little pricey for a small portion."

  • "The food and service are excellent. However, don't assume this is a quiet place for a date - it was a bit cramped. The prices are high, but the quality of the sushi is top notch - very fresh."

  • "This is a very nice spot- high end feel/ambiance, fantastic sushi menu, super fresh (sushi chef even filleted an 80-lb tuna at the kitchen bar for customers to watch), service was expert and very knowledgeable."

  • "My husband and I tried the Kampachi Serrano, Kimme-Dai, Live Scallop Sashimi, and the Squid Ink roll. The first two sashimi plates we tried were delicious. Both dishes were light but had a lot of flavor. The Live Scallop Sashimi was very clean and fresh but lacked the bold taste of the first two dishes. As for the Squid Ink roll, I know it sounds weird, but it is very delicious. Our waitress was very helpful in navigating the menu. Also, if you don't like sitting close to other tables, you may not like the table setup."

  • "Atlanta has many really great restaurants, but at Tomo the food freshness and presentation, the personal, helpful and welcoming service and the ambiance and the fun are all exceptional and wonderful. It is by far my wife's favorite Atlanta restaurant and I am glad she loves it!"

  • "I was introduced to sushi/sashimi in 1977 and it has become my cuisine of choice over the years. I have enjoyed Japanese cuisine in Korea, China, Japan, Europe, South America and most assuredly in vitually every state in the USA. Without a doubt, this is one of the finest Japanese restaurants in the country based on both availability, presentation and service. Tomo has managed to retain the feel of an authentic Japanese restaurants without giving way to the fusion tendency of the US. The saki list is truly impressive yet restrained in the number of offerings. To be fair, I can be found at Tomo on any Friday that I am in Atlanta and I would be there more often if I lived in Atlanta. In my opinion, One of the best sushi restaurants in the US."

  • "Our server did not seem well versed in the menu -- either drinks or food -- as she was unable to discuss certain dishes or make any recommendations -- but we had a fantastic meal!"

  • "This is clearly a world class, five star sushi restaurant. Don't miss their items made from fish brought in daily from Japan's fish markets. This is a wonderful addition to Atlanta's "sushi scene," quite expensive, but well worth it."

  • "While we had an overall excellent dining experience we were a little shell-shocked at the prices considering the extremely small portion sizes at Tomo. Plan to order 3 double cheeseburgers on the way home after your $350.00 dinner for 3 at Tomo (with a couple glasses of wine and two $35 bottles of saki)....your stomach will appreciate the fast-food stop so it can feel like it ate something:) Not for the faint of wallet."

  • "Megan and I had been wanting to try a new sushi spot for awhile. A number of friends recommended Tomo. I am glad we went. The menu is just innovative enough to offer some exciting options. It also had some of the standards for creatures of comfort. We decided to share a number of apps, rolls, drinks, and a dessert to appreciate more. The sushi was great quality, and Tomo added their own special twist to them which made the more delicious. The sake was delicious. I was concerned about ordering a Manhattan at a Japanese restaurant. It was perfect. And, the chocolate mil crepe dessert was a revelation with every bite. I save the best for last. Our waitress was Tee. She was an educator, and a partner in making our evening perfect! Thanks, Tee!"

  • "Tomo has been hyped as one of the top sushi restaurants in the country and I was very excited to finally go there. I was really not impressed. Although the menu did not seem overpriced, the rolls they serve are actually quite small and 1/2 the size you would receive at other sushi restaurants. I think some of the roll creations were inventive, but I did not think the fish was especially fresh as one might expect from such a highly rated restaurant. I will say the server was very attentive, and in that, the sevice was very good. Overall I was actually really disappointed with the food and would not return."

  • "Tomo has been one of our go-to places for special occasions, and this was to have been a special "landmark" birthday dinner. Unfortunately, we were seated right inside the door across from the noisy bar. We asked if we could wait for another table further back, and were told no. The tiny front foyer did nothing to block the cold blast every time the door was opened, creating a very uncomfortable experience for us. The sushi was good, although extremely expensive; we are unlikely to return after this uncomfortable experience."

  • "I'll start with the improvement opportunity: the entryway doors open to the dining area and if you sit near them on a cold night, you will freeze. BYOWC=Bring your own winter coat! :) The most important part of the review is that this sushi restaurant is second to none! Sexy presentation, wonderful attention from the waitstaff and flavors that are sure to please novice as well as expert sushi foodies."

  • "My bestie and I had the Omakase menu at the sushi bar with Tomo himself. The food was to die for and made more special by Tomo's presence. We had interesting conversations and loved every minute. Make reservations for the Omakase menu. It's expensive but worth every penny and then some."

  • "Ok, first of all, this restaurant is solid. However, it's nothing overly special, especially for the price. This is my second time coming to Tomo (I went about a year ago) and I felt the exact same when I left. Decent sushi, quality raw fish appetizers, but nothing overly special. The fish is quite fresh, the server was excellent and the decor/ambiance was swanky and fun. However, if you're going to pay these prices and you're priority is the top quality sushi, head to Umi or Sushi House Hayakawa; Both are better sushi houses. If you'd rather Japanese food in general, so to something less formal like Shoya Izakaya. Tomo won't be the first restaurant that comes to mind when I am craving top dollar sushi again. 3/4 out of 5 overall."

  • "I've eaten sushi rolls & never understood what all the excitement was for sushi but it was a friends birthday and this is her favorite restaurant so I suggested we go to her favorite. We had Yume to guide me and she was on point! I LOVE Tomo! Her suggestions were not rolls but the freshest sushi. I am now spoiled as I can only go to Tomo for sushi. I'll be back! Ask for Yume!"

  • "had dinner at tomo saturday night. found them in the atlanta magazine top 50 restaurants article. we were staying in buckhead. went with another couple, which allowed us to sample more items. server was helpful, engaging and enthusiastic. owner stopped by twice to check on us. ordered saki, which we weren't knowledgeable about, and a french white wine. fish is fresh, dishes are creative and great for sharing. favorite dishes: kampachi serrano, shima aji spicy carpaccio, lamp chop, garlic yellowtail roll, and the aji tataki. atmosphere was upscale casual with a pulse. we travel to eat, often with our own wine. this was a homerun."

  • "Tomo continues to be the best sushi I've had in Atlanta. Outstanding, with very attentive service to boot. Bring your wallet, because it's not cheap, but if extra fresh sushi is what you crave you can do no wrong here."

  • "We asked for an extra plate since two of us were sharing an entree. We were sitting at the sushi bar. One of the sushi chef's had an incredible fit opening and slamming cabinet doors looking for a plate -- the plates were actually in the cabinets above the ones he was opening and slamming. We were told by out waitress that they had to save plates for other customers. Could not believe it especially at a high end restaurant that they would not give us a decent size extra plate and that the chef had a fit in front of us. We had each been given bread size plates and I guess they thought that was sufficient. The entree that we shared was by far not the only thing we ordered together."

  • "We have eaten at Tomo before and raved to out of town relatives who are self-proclaimed foodies and sushi experts. Needless to say, they were easily won over by the freshness and creativity of the food. We had the chef's special selection, and each course was memorable. The entire evening was enhanced by the knowledgeable and charming May."

  • "A table for two turned into a table for eight. Why seat us so close to others? Service was dicey and the food was just like any other decent sushi restaurant - but twice the price! Don't dress up my food and charge me double because you are in Buckhead. It's still the same sushi I can get down the road."
