Tommy Bahama's Restaurant & Bar - Palm DesertBirthday party funWe went for my daughters 19th birthday and we had a great time. We happened to go during Restaurant Week so they had a couple specials that we took advantage of. The food was delicious and the bread and butter was to die for. The noise level did get a bit loud by the end of the meal but we made the most of it. The waiter brought a creme brûlée with a candle for my daughter for her 'birthday cake' and we all took a couple bites from it. The food is a little pricey but worth every penny. The server came by quickly to get our drink orders and let us know of their specials. She was very attentive throughout our stay and was very good with the six year old.
The children all had burgers and fries. The special was a large sea-food/shrimp cocktail. More than enough for a meal. Was excellent. After the meal the server brought a small birthday dessert with candle.......all quite dignified, no silliness that some places do.

There was a loose canopy high above us, which allowed a nice air flow and also let any noise from other tables to escape. I had the 8 oz. Filet. It was amazing. The meat melted in your mouth. It was Mother's Day, we ate early (5:30 pm) before the rush. The food was terrific - our waiter Ryan was so so. He didn't really seem interested in serving us and disappeared for a long time - we had to ask other waiters for refills, etc. The food was delivered in pieces - two dinners, then another , then another... made for everyone waiting for the final dinner and cold food for some.

It gets really busy, but now takes Open Table reservations all day. Come early at 11:30 a.m. and you will have your choice of tables--by 12:30 it's full. We usually dine on the appetizers--the ahi tuna tacos and the tuna Napoleon are our favorites, as well as the seafood Gazpacho soup, if it's being offered as a special. The prices are high but the servings generous. Palm Desert can be unbearably hot but the patio with shade is nice and makes me feel like I'm on vacation. The appetizers are delicious and although pricy are nice portions. It's hard for us to get past the tuna Napoleon and the ahi tuna tacos. The cold gazpacho soup with large shrimp, if it's offered as a special, is wonderful too. The margarita is fresh and good. Having done that, you can bring a bottles of wine and they waive the corkage fee. Normal fee is $20.00. So within two visits you've pretty much paid for the cost of the bag. And, most importantly brought your own wonderful bottle of vintage wine. We almost always order the ribs, but are finding them a little overcooked. If its fish you are hungry for, go to the Crab Pot where they have daily fresh fish and 30% less costs. Although that restaurant is not nearly as trendy. The restaurant has a very relaxing ambiance. The food was very good. The crab bisque was flavorful and served hot. The braised short rib - delicious. The brussel sprouts were perfectly cooked. My friends Thai Shrimp and Scallops had a lovely lemongrass flavor. The Pina Colada cake was just average, but the Malted Chocolate Pie was very good. We were already seated and elected to just pay normal bar fee. I had purchased a wine bag for $38.00 which allows you to bring your own wine with no corkage fee. Guess its a good deal by your second visit if you bring personal wine.
Ribs were a disappointment. Surprised they were overcooked at 6pm. Pity the later diners who want ribs because they will be awful.
