Tommy Bahama's Restaurant & Bar - Palm DesertGreat food, patio diningWe come for lunch whenever we are in Palm Desert. It gets really busy, but now takes Open Table reservations all day. Come early at 11:30 a.m. and you will have your choice of tables--by 12:30 it's full. We usually dine on the appetizers--the ahi tuna tacos and the tuna Napoleon are our favorites, as well as the seafood Gazpacho soup, if it's being offered as a special. The prices are high but the servings generous. Palm Desert can be unbearably hot but the patio with shade is nice and makes me feel like I'm on vacation. The appetizers are delicious and although pricy are nice portions. It's hard for us to get past the tuna Napoleon and the ahi tuna tacos. The cold gazpacho soup with large shrimp, if it's offered as a special, is wonderful too. The margarita is fresh and good. Having done that, you can bring a bottles of wine and they waive the corkage fee. Normal fee is $20.00. So within two visits you've pretty much paid for the cost of the bag. And, most importantly brought your own wonderful bottle of vintage wine. We almost always order the ribs, but are finding them a little overcooked. If its fish you are hungry for, go to the Crab Pot where they have daily fresh fish and 30% less costs. Although that restaurant is not nearly as trendy. However, the hostess sat us just outside the door to the patio, with high traffic and no view, even though there were numerous tables available at better locations throughout the patio, especially at 8:30 pm. Consideration should be given to the customer's best experience and not where the next waiter's table is in their rotation assignment. The restaurant has a very relaxing ambiance. The food was very good. The crab bisque was flavorful and served hot. The braised short rib - delicious. The brussel sprouts were perfectly cooked. My friends Thai Shrimp and Scallops had a lovely lemongrass flavor. The Pina Colada cake was just average, but the Malted Chocolate Pie was very good. We were already seated and elected to just pay normal bar fee. I had purchased a wine bag for $38.00 which allows you to bring your own wine with no corkage fee. Guess its a good deal by your second visit if you bring personal wine.
Ribs were a disappointment. Surprised they were overcooked at 6pm. Pity the later diners who want ribs because they will be awful.
