Diner Reviews
  • "Went here based on OT recommendations and was not let down. Food and service were excellent. We went on a Sunday which was an off day. They were out of the sea bass, but other than that a good dining experience.."

  • "Preferred lunch menu over dinner menu. Dinner menu was very limited. Specials weren't available until 7PM,but our reservation was for 6, right after work. But service was good, excellent drink menu, and great live music."

  • "Tommy Bahama offers truly excellent service. The food was sub-par, but the service was spectacular."

  • "The food was excellent and we had a great table overlooking Fifth Avenue. I had the roasted vegetables with tiger shrimp. Our server was nice enough, but overall service was surprisingly slow. No refill on water, my salad order was forgotten, and there were long delays in getting everything from a diet coke to the main course. Still we chalked it up as a bad night and left a 20% tip. We weren't in a big rush anyway. We absolutely would return for the food and the dessert."

  • "First time dining. Had early dinner around 6pm. Very noisy happy hour. Food was excellent, very fresh and tropical. good portions. Drinks were fantastic, fresh ingredients. Would return."

  • "We were pleasantly surprised that Tommy Bahama the restaurant was as good a fit for us as Tommy Bahama the fashion brand is for me. It was loud, but we were able to get a good table by the window as was recommended. The server, Don or Dan (can't remember) was good, the musician was fantastic, the food was great, and they had a wine (Talbott) that we really liked. A great time was had by all. The next night we were very tired after a long day in Gotham and decided that we liked it so much we would go back to Tommy Bahama. It is very odd that we would go back to the same restaurant in New York City with so much to offer but it was a very pleasant repeat."

  • "I was not expecting to enjoy the lunch as much as I did. The fish tacos were as good as what I have eaten in La Jolla and the coconut jumbo shrimp appetizer was generous and perfectly prepared. The house Pino Grigio was actually good and my friend had a virgin mojito that she enjoyed almost as much as a real one ( she is expecting). I really liked the ambiance and decor and the fact that the tables aren't right on top of one another and there is a sense of space which is so welcome when you are used to being crowded all of the time."

  • "Went to dinner at Tommy Bahama & was pleasantly surprised. They were having an event there but still had room to accommodate me & my sister's for dinner. We had the short rib sliders for an appetizer & those were really good. We each had the Filet Mignon prepared different ways but no one was disappointed. The chive mash potatoes were heavenly! We didn't have time for dessert but the offerings looked promising."

  • "We went for Taco Tuesdays and had a great time. Drinks are fabulous! Our server -sorry did not get his name - was very nice and accommodating to all our special requests. Only negative, a few of us had heartburn later in the night from the tacos. Crab cakes were delicious!"

  • "We had a very good lunch with excellent service. Started with a great Ahi Poke Taco appetizer - light, crisp taco shell filled with slaw and topped with fresh Ahi Poke, Wasabi Sauce, and Scallions. We moved on to salads which were perfect for a warm summer day. The kids had the Lobster Roll (suggest passing on this small version ) and Coconut Shrimp. Finished the lunch off with a large slice of Piña Colada Cake."

  • "Ephraim is the best waiter - request him. If you don't see a cocktail you like, just let the wait staff know what you like, they will create something for you."

  • "Have a business meeting or lunch with a friend or significant other. This is a fun restaurant with kicking food. I enjoyed a scheduled-at-the-last-minute lunch with my husband and loved the ambiance and food. It's a popular spot so plan ahead or be prepared to wait a bit."

  • "We went here on our honeymoon in hawaii. It was amazing so we like to go back to the NYC one. We cant thank the manager/waitress enough for making our anniversary feel so special. You guys really did an amazing job and we cant wait to come back . Thank you!"

  • "Worth fighting the crowds of the Puerto Rican Day Parade just to cross 5th Avenue. So glad we did. Staff was very attentive and helpful with both food and beverage choices. Neither disappointed. Ephraim, our server even created a specialty cocktail for the bourbon lover in me. A twist on the Dark and Stormy. I think we decided to call it a Kentucky Storm. So good I had a 2nd. 2 types of sliders (short rib & scallops) for appetizers, Ahi Tuna and Blackened Fish Ruben for entrees and the Key Lime pie to finish things off. Everything was DELICIOUS!!! Nothing better than feeling like you're at the beach while overlooking 5th Avenue. Look forward to my next visit!!!"

  • "As of now, this place remains mildly undiscovered so remains a serene oasis in the heart of midtown. I love it as a lunch place because the menu is full of very satisfying light choices. The service is relaxed and diners are permitted to set their own pace. The down stairs dining area behind the bar has a very private club ambience. If you are looking for loud music and hustle, this is not your place. Tommy Bahamas succeeds in providing island relaxation in the city."

  • "If you want to have a consistently delicious dinner and feel like you're on vacation, this is the place to go. Relaxing, excellent service, and starting with the bread it just couldn't be better! Try the crab bisque...."

  • "Enjoyed a lovely lunch - great spot for a date or business lunch. We were late, but the hostess accommodated us without a problem, though her choice to seat us right between two parties when many empty tables were available was awkward. Food was well prepared and the server was attentive. Nice atmosphere."

  • "After making reservations and arriving 15 min early to avoid waiting, the hostess made us wait for 45 minutes of our lunch hour, and seated everyone in the waiting area before us. She did not check us in on the open table, so I did not receive my Open Table points. They then seated us in a far back isolated room without windows. I insisted on being seated in the main room, and from there the waitress did damage control for the poorly handled hosting and seating. They mentioned that this happens all the time... I like the food and ambiance, but the staff seems to be completely inept. I recommend going after 2pm, when the lunch crowd dissolves. "

  • "A great restaurant, food, service, entertainment on the 2nd floor on 5th Avenue? Unheard of. Like all the TB restaurants, the NYC offering is superb. Treat yourself!"

  • "As always, Tommy Bahama never fails to impress. Our reservation was (erroneously) confirmed for 11am when they actually do not open until 11:30 am. Apparently, one of their managers failed to switch back to regular hours after Mother's Day when they opened at 11am. However, the hostess very courteously explained the situation and offered for us to wait if we chose to which we did. They ended up seating us at 11:15 - still fifteen minutes before their opening time which we appreciated. Our waiter was outstanding and mentioned that our drinks were complimentary due to the situation. They didn't have to but we're glad they did. As in my previous visits, the food was exceptional."

  • "Who wudda thunk? I know Tommy Bahama as a clothes line. I had no idea such a fabulous restaurant, too. Very light and open. Festive feel to it. My salad with grilled salmon was excellent. The place had a happy vibe."

  • "Having shopped in Tommy Bahamas store it was pleasant to find their restaurant upstairs followed their relaxed theme. Great service and exceptional food, my son has an allergy to dairy and they took the time to confirm what dishes he could have Most enjoyable and worth a visit"

  • "My fiance and I planned to celebrate my birthday diner at this restaurant. We reserved through the opentable and wrote in the "Message to the restaurant" what was the occasion for this diner. We went and the diner was fine, even though they should be thoughtful to warn patrons that certain dishes might be spicy (because the menu does not say that). The worst part, not one person from the staff said happy birthday! We were very disappointed; we would not recommend it!"

  • "While visiting Hawaii, I enjoyed Tommy Bahama restaurant so i was excited to try their NYC location. It's a beautiful space with nice ambiance, but the food falls flat. Although our poke appetizer was decent, my macadamia-crusted snapper was small, dry, tasteless and extremely overpriced. I would not recommend it."

  • "Service slow and inattentive. Good looking menu but was a confused selection. Lots of fried options as well as a special gluten sensitive section. Food was nothing special and for entrees ranging from $25-$34 you expect flavor - and service! Disappointed and won't go back. "

  • "Had a most enjoyable lunch here. This is one of the few restaurants I have found in NY that serves a true lunch menu where people can order as much or as lttle as they want. Also reasonable priced. Had excellent service especially because it was early and restaurant uncrowded. My only complaint was that Open Table showed 11 30 available which we took and then no availability until 12 45 yet there were plenty of tables available and we had a very leisurely lunch with our out of town guest. Why would it not show availability at 12 and 12 30? For us 11 30 was fine but if we wanted to eat later would have gone to another restaurant assuming you had no availability."

  • "Went for mother's day with my wife, 2 kids and my mother. We all had a great time, the service was great. There was a man singing and playing guitar which we enjoyed- it wasnt too loud, he was over near the upstairs bar. We enjoyed all of our food especially the tuna taco apps and the coconut shrimp. The baby back ribs were delicious and my Mahi Mahi was fantastic. This is a great restaurant."

  • "Tommy Bahama is a great place for lunch. The food is great and there is a wide slection to choose from. I would higly recommend the Coconut Shrimp, the fish tacos and the mango and chicken salad. The restaurant has a warm and inviting ambience and the staff is very friendly. "
