Diner Reviews
  • "Very loud and crowded ambience. Before ordering the moules marinieres I asked if they are big enough and the waitress assured me they are excellent. I got a plate of nano mussels and over cooked! Not a dish in which any " French" restaurant can be proud of! I was my first and last visit in this bistro ."

  • "ok looking place. food was bland and very expensive and not a lot of it. rib eye steak was all fat. we complained and after a little argument with the manager (who insisted all that fat should have been there) we were comped the steak ....good thing because we couldn't eat most of it. on the other hand the service was very very good"

  • "I had been to a Tommy Bahamas in Orlando that was wonderful. This place was just as good. Food was excellent and it wasn't too hard on the wallet. I would highly recommend this place for a night out with the wife. Had a reservation with OT and they seated us as soon as we walked in. Service was very prompt. Everyone at our table agreed that the food was cooked perfectly. Good Times!!!"

  • "Food was good - the appetizers are small but filling - love the Asian cole slaw and their lobster roll... we sat next to a loud group which was slightly annoying but overall service was attentive and food was tasty..."

  • "This is not your typical dark cavern NYC restaurant. It is open and bright with great fresh food. The Caribbean fare has something for everyone......I highly recommend this for anytime ...lunch...dinner...pre/post show.....break from shopping. It is near both."

  • "I picked the restaurant to celebrate a friend's birthday for two reasons - close to Grand Central Terminal and the tropical Bahamas feel when you walk in through the clothing store on the first floor, reminiscent of our past involvement in the Caribbean country. The staff was friendly and attentitive and the service was good. Prices were a bit on the high side for lunch but nothing to complain about as the quality of food and drinks was good and it is a mid-town, Fifth avenue location after all. Read some reviews online and the recommendations were spot on. Best of all, the place was not noisy and we could talk without raising our voice,"

  • "The food is not consistent...some dishes were good, some were just ok...hit or miss..."

  • "My third and least favorite visit. We shared "extra salty" calamari to start. I ordered fish and chips (one of the day's specials). The fish was lukewarm and the fries were cold. Our server was lovely but the service itself was slow and sporadic. Think I've come to realize that it's really jumped up fast food at this restaurant - nothing very speical and in a sense not worth the prices. Music was a tad loud as well for a lunchtime. Not one of my NY favorites ......"

  • "We had a very enjoyable dinner. The decor is clean and hip looking with a touch of island resort. The food was great. Would definitely return."

  • "Loved this place! My husband and I love The Keys and the food and atmosphere was like taking a mini vacation. Live music, great cocktails and the freshest fish...was really wonderful!"

  • "Was looking for a last minute place near Grand Central, and this place had the second highest rating for the area for $$-- couldn't believe it, reviews looked authentic, thought I'd give it a try... and was pleasantly surprised! Excellent and friendly service, many menu options including gluten-sensitive, and tasty food. Went for dinner- after work bar scene was very loud, but everywhere in NYC is loud these days. Didn't leave with a horse voice trying to talk to my dinner companion though."

  • "Didn't know that this restaurant existed but was happy to have discovered it. Thought I made a mistake because this restaurant is above the tommy Bahama clothing store. There is also a bar on the first floor. Definitely a happening place with lots of young patrons. Fun atmosphere. Wicked drinks and desserts! Have to talk over noise. Bring a friend or two and have a good time."

  • "I came here with my parents for my birthday, and we all loved the food. It was delicious and different from what we normally eat when in NY. The space was comfortable and not too loud, making it an enjoyable experience."

  • "This place is awsome. Ambience, Service, Food -- Outstanding. We all agreed that we will be going to this restaurant (and bar) very, very often!"

  • "We went on Friday night and the restaurant was pretty empty. The basil grapefruit martini was delicious. Fish tacos were excellent and veggie burger was also very good."

  • "I celebrated my mother's 63rd Birthday here and had a wonderful time (mom as well). Appetizers, Entree's & drinks were all great choices."

  • "I remember the fresh tuna sashimi at a luau I enjoyed in Waikiki and haven't experienced anything like it until I discovered the Tommy Bahama restaurant's tuna avocado "napoleon". They have a lobster roll BLT that I think I ate the wrong way, but it was the perfectly thin layer of mayo over fresh, sweet lobster. My friend had the "212" burger which he was very satisfied by. It looked substantial and cooked as requested. Our table neighbors were rightfully jealous of our french fries. Did I mention I had a Mai Tai? Dark rum dancing over a juicy concoction. I'm sadly moving from NYC soon, but I plan to finally bring my fiancee there for my third visit."

  • "I've been to Tommy Bahama a few times it has wonderful food drinks dessert and live music this time it was very crowded and a bit noisey next time I will go earlier."

  • "We came into Tommy Bahama to shop...then had a drink at Marlin bar....then stayed for dinner! The food and cocktails were fantastic! It's like a tropical getaway right in the middle of Manhattan. It's our new favorite spot. You have to try to Kona Crusted Steaks. OMG."

  • "We had a nice day planned with our kids we didn't invite the waiter but he inserted himself in by interrupting our conversation with his own thoughts and musings. I like a friendly waiter, I did not appreciate being interrupted and having our dinner conversation hijacked. Food was very good."

  • "Been twice and each time I've been very pleasantly surprised. The food is good, the cocktails were great, and the service was excellent. Stands out in that neighborhood of limited dining and drinking options."

  • "Seafood was very fresh- Great Service. Fantastic deserts and Sangria. Very relaxing atmosphere in the heart of Midtown."

  • "The food was good. The service was annoying ....it's not that it was horrible, but they really didn't do much to make you feel comfy. And top that with a waitress that smirks and doesn't know the difference between savory vs sweet. to recommend something that you actually want? You're left to your own devices to figure it out. To the restaurant: There were 5 window tables so I asked to sit at one but was told no b/c people reserved them. Whole time we were there, 2 tables stayed entirely open, and few tables actually turned over. U should really consider giving priority for these tables to those with reservations that have actually shown up."

  • "Fun place for lunch. Menu has nice variety. Not great for conversation - at least on this visit. Music was blaring, making it difficult to hear others at the table. On previous occasions, I did not notice the noise level, so maybe this was an anomaly. In any event, please keep the volume down.."

  • "Truly enjoyed a delicious dinner with my husband during the Christmas holiday. Never really knew there was a restaurant associated with the brand. Loved it! Great wait staff too. Will definitely return and tell my friends about it."

  • "Our family visits the Tommy Bahama's restaurant in Naples, FL during our visits there a couple times of year. We are thrilled that now there is another location closer to us. Our children love the atmosphere and food. Tommy's is always a sure thing for us:) The fish taco are a must order."

  • "Who knew this would be a great restaurant? It was close to our hotel in a winter snow storm and we would have gladly eaten every meal here, but we were in NY..... Our table was a little too close to the live music for easy conversation, but that would be my only complaint."

  • "Excellent service! Dan was our waiter and he was very attentive and made the evening fun. We had the goat cheese appetizer, caesar salad, and the black cod entree. Everything was prepared perfectly! The fish was exceptional as was the caesar salad. Dessert was key lime pie, which was delicious. Also had the mojitos which were excellent, I definitely recommend having one or two. Overall a great experience!"

  • "They sat me and my guest at a table next to where the musicians play in the evening. This meant that the bartender, who was very pleasant, was given double duty--tend the bar and wait on us. This didn't work out so well, because she was usually no where to be found, AND, and this is crucial, the waiter who waited on the table next to ours, deliberately ignored my gazes, and hand motions to come over to the table. My guest, simply needed pepper, but it took over 10 minutes to get it--we finally got the attention of the hostess. It was very frustrating, as the restaurant was not full, but there was no blame on the bartender/waitress, who clearly had her hands full."

  • "The best part of this restaurant is getting a drink at the bar, and being able to take it into the main store while shopping around. store staff & Service was great. it was a little loud with music. we had to ask them to tune it down a bit (live music) I was expecting the overall Ambience to be more classy, but maybe fun place for lunch & shopping."

  • "Great place for lunch though service was slow and the place was not that busy. We ordered two specials and it took ver y long for our meals to arrive. I like the location and the food but they need to improve service."

  • "I like the overall arrangement of the restaurant but I find the noise level too loud. There is always a draft in the restaurant no matter where I sit."

  • "An interesting menu and "non-touristy" restaurant in midtown where there is a lack of lunch places that aren't a steakhouse and don't cost a fortune. You could also actually have a conversation with people here."

  • "The search for a Sunday brunch in midtown turned up Tommy Bahama. Fearful of a tourist destination but bolstered by good reviews and the convenient location, we took a table for three and were pleased with the overall experience. The Pat LaFrieda burger was excellent, and all dishes were attractive and generous. Wines by the glass were better than average (though you're not going to find unexpected treasures) and fairly priced. The restaurant was not crowded so we were not rushed, but service remained attentive throughout our stay."
