Diner Reviews
  • "We had a great time recently celebrating a friend's retirement with great food and wine and the music of George Fulton and the Flat Out Strangers. The Tombo crew, as always, made the occasion very special. The food is consistently good, no matter how big the crowd. The salmon and filets are favorites, along with local fish and shellfish. Vegetables and sauces are a treat unto themselves. Of course, dessert is tops, if you save room. or they will box up your leftovers, if you are fortunate enough to have any."

  • "The only complaint is the coffee brought with dessert was old. Expected fresh brewed coffee at a restaurant this nice."

  • "Since this is my first time at TG, I can only speak of my one experience. What I ordered was very good, but a little overpriced. I also found the menu to be limited."

  • "The fried Brussels sprouts, Cornish game hen, and wine were perfect. The Grille also provides a nice place where you can actually talk to your dinner partners . . . a rarity these days."

  • "We had the grilled meatloaf and salmon. The salmon was well seasoned and moist. The meatloaf was suprisingly good. The service was professional and our waitress was well-versed in the wine list and menu. "

  • "Tombo Grill falls beautifully between the very upscale offerings and the good, but average, restaurants in our community. The food is quite good. The regular menu is limited, but there are always excellent specials you can try. In addition, the regular items cover a range of tastes to suit almost everyone. We also like the size of the restaurant, not too big. We always see people we know there. It has a good neighborly feel to it."

  • "We are so fortunate to have Tombo Grille right around the corner. The food, drinks, service and atmosphere are ALWAYS excellent. Tombo Grille is a happening place for folks from throughout the Midlands. The owners and staff have become dear friends who welcome us and our friends at least once a week. They host some great musicians, and their live music nights are always packed. Food favorites: softshell crab (in season), duck confit, S.C. shrimp and Atlantic salmon. Plus local greens, interesting vegetables, featured wines and more."

  • "Tombo's was "friendly" for folks of all ages. Menu was simple yet diverse and offered something for everyone in terms of taste and cost. Reasonable prices, local use of foods. Shrimp and grits very creamy, hefty portion! Salads fresh and sizeable. The fried okra was superb. It was cut lengthwise and fried with a great coating. Yummy. Would return regularly to sample their daily, fresh specials."

  • "This was my first time going to Tombo Grille, and what an amazing find it is! I can't believe such an amazing restaurant has been in such close proximity to me without my knowledge. Tombo Grille is the best of what neighborhood restaurants have to offer. Much of the produce is purchased locally. The food is devine. They have a wonderful wine list. And the service was wonderful. We received our food quickly, and out waiter was friendly & knowledgeable."

  • "Tombo is a great little gem in Forest Acres. Don't be fooled by its location, it is a nice restaurant with amazing food. The wine list is extensive, wait staff is excellent, and the food is to die for. They have great deals during the week to also be on the lookout for. I suggest trying their specials, as it is a truly unique experience."

  • "My wife and I enjoyed the salmon so much we returned two days later and made identical choices. She had a wedge salad while I had the fried chicken live and polenta appetizer and we both had salmon over jasmine rice and chocolate cream pie. The chef blends a little spinach and tiny capers into the jasmine rice and it is very good - a little like rissoto. Service is always excellent and parking is usually no problem."

  • "Len and his staff did an amazing job. We had 30 women for a 10:00am Saturday bridal brunch. Len consulted with me about menu choices. It was different items from their usual menu, and it was superb. The atmosphere was quiet since the restaurant was closed."

  • "Food was good and the atmosphere was nice, not too over the top. The music on Monday was excellent and a definite highlight. The only negative is that the restaurant is not well seen from the road, we drove by it with a GPS and didn't see it. It is located right across the street from the Trader Joe's on Forrest Drive."

  • "We live in the neighborhood and frequent Tombo's. I was shocked that the toast points served with the cheese place were burnt. Not just a little, but all pieces were burnt. We chose Tombo's to dine as we had a stressful week and wanted a quiet evening out. I just wasn't up to dealing with addressing this with the waiter so we left the burnt toast on the plate. I recommend not only the chef check the food before sending it out, but the waiter should have noticed it and not served it."
