  • "Always a good meal..service good and surroundings lovely.....can't go wrong...."

  • "I have never attended a restaurant that was so chaotically busy but still managed to get my appetizer out within ten minutes after ordering. Every meal was prepared unbelievably fast and a waitress was always of assistance. This dinner was undeniably remarkable, the food was better than any other restaurant in the town. Overall, my first visit to Tomatoes will not be my last."

  • "Always a good meal but as usual as a party of two it was hard to hear ourselves talk as it's very noisy. Service was attentive although server forgot to bring the birthday dessert"

  • "One of the best reataurants in Margate. As good as any big city restaurant. "

  • "Always consistently good food at Tomatoes. We loved the Kale salad. My husband got the pork chop which he thoroughly enjoyed. I got the Duck which I think was deep fried. Not the best dish I've had at tomatoes; wouldn't order it again. This however was not a deterrent for me to return. It was Saturday night before Easter and a packed house. Noise level was quite energetic. "

  • "The dining experience was everything we expected. We had a reservation for two people at 7:30. We would highly recommend this restaurant for a special dining occasion."

  • "Welcome to Margate! Not quite summertime busy, but for early April it was busier than expected. Had many appetizers (attempted to do a tapas tasting of everything) and it didn't disappoint! Everything was wonderful. and the Sushi was equally delicious! It is a standby for margate and it is always good. This time it was very good!"

  • "Tomatoes is one of go to places when we are down the shore! Great sushi and all other types of American food too!"

  • "Suggestions: Too many items on the menu. Too cluttered.... Eliminate the script on the menu and re-do with printing at least with a 10-12 font in black with line spacing. Some restaurants have the specials for the waitress read/handout which she could also leave on the table so diners also can ponder a bit longer while selecting their entree' from the specials or standards. Trouble reading the menu in dim lighting."

  • "We've been there many times and have had many good meals. Saturday was certainly one of them. Best service we have had to date. The pork chop was outstanding as was the corvine. The sushi appetizer was very good."

  • "My husband and I had dinner at Tomatoes for our sixth anniversary. We had been there before, a few years back and remember it being nice so we figured we'd go back. Well, it wasn't at all like we remembered. First, it was loud. Yes it was a Saturday night, but we had been there before on a Friday and it wasn't as loud or crowded (and it wasn't even summer season). I got sushi and my husband got a pasta dish. My sushi was fine, but my husband's pasta was a joke. The portion was the size of my fist and for a $30 dish, we expected more. Needless to say, my husband left hungry. The service was fine, but we won't be returning unless it's for a simple sushi date, but even then, we can find the same tasting sushi at a cheaper price."

  • "I go to Tomatoes often and it is always delicious. It's kind of crowded in the summer months. I hate crowds but this place is so good I brave the crowds."

  • "Waiter and staff were excellent; questions we had were answered knowledgably, food was amazing! Only comment would be we each took some food home, and while I understand trying to be "green", the food was tossed into a flimsy, brown cardboard box which I immediately transferred the leftovers to a more suitable container upon arriving back home. Need to get better "take home" containers."

  • "I was at Tomatoes for restaurant week and the food and service was excellent. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and will definitely be back.. The server Liah was Great!!!"

  • "Went to Tomatoes during restaurant week. Went prior to our dinner reservation for appetizers and drinks with another couple and sat at the bar. The bar tender was extremely personable and helpful, and the martinis were great. Sushi was very yummy here. We were sat at our table at our reservation time without a wait. We were put on the upper level and the restaurant was very loud, but it wasn't bothersome. We had a very attentive server who was always around when we needed or wanted something, he was very proactive and responsive. Our food was delicious and the special sushi roll was one of the best rolls we had all agreed we had ever tasted. Dessert was great. One of our favorite spots. Great experience every time."

  • "Had a 6:00PM reservation purposely to get more attentive service. Were not greeted for 10 min at the table. Appetizers came before first round of drinks. 2 ppl were severely lactose intolerant & server made it seem like it was a hassle to ask the chef to provide a non-dairy dessert for restaurant week menu. 1 dessert on the menu was a gelato made w/ vanilla ice cream &the other was a cake made w/cream cheese. Server only "was able" to accomodate 1 of our lactose intolerant guests? When we stated that there are 2 people lactose intolerant she said that it was "enough trouble to get that one sent out"... I cook alot at home so when I go out, Im mainly paying for the service. Was very dissappointed. Will not return."

  • "Been going to Resturant week through out Philadelphia and South Jersey for years. This was the best meal we had. Great choice of meals to choice from. This place is a gem."

  • "My husband and I picked to go to Tomatoes for restaurant week since we've never been there and only 10 minutes away. I was aware that this place was pricey, but was hoping if we went during AC Restaurant Week it may be a bit more affordable. Even though the ambiance was very dim-light and romantic, it still cost us big money. I would not recommend friends to go out of their way to go there, this place is good for people that don't mind a big bill in a small town restaurant."

  • "The food here was exceptionally good. The wait staff were very knowledgeable and friendly. Unfortunately, we dined on Rock and Roll Sushi night which featured a DJ playing everything but rock and roll. The music was very loud in the dining room making conversation nearly impossible without shouting. Ordering was also made difficult due to the volume. I will definitely dine here again but on a night when there is no DJ."

  • "During the AC Restaurant week we visit restaurants that we have never been to in the hope of finding something special. Well this year we hit the jackpot with Tomatoes, everything was perfect, the service, food and atmosphere. We will add this restaurant to our wish list for special occasions. The limited menu that was offered for restaurant week was fabulous and offered something for everyone's taste. Be sure to try the flat bread appetizer, it changes every night so ask your server about this item when you go."

  • "The flavor profiles were very complimentary. My only regret is that I have not tried this restaurant before. Near the top of my list for favorite places."

  • "The Cuban Pork Chop with pumpkin gnocchi is my absolute favorite! And has been for years! Savory comfort dish like you've never had anywhere else! The Duck is also a great choice. We also had the Thai Curry mussels made with coconut milk - outrageous! The shaved Brussels sprout salad was light and crisp -loved it! Killer Chocolate cake and Pecan Torte - right on point! Everything at this restaurant is consisting fabulous. Beginning to end! I always leave happy!"

  • "We family-vacation in Ocean City, NJ every year for 2 separate weeks in the summer every year. And my husband and I get a "date night" while my mother-in-law watches the kids. We have been going to Tomatoes for over 5 years now and it is consistently wonderful and awesome! The food is always great. The service is fantastic. The ambiance is great. It is just honestly the best overall restaurant down the shore! I just got back from a "girls weekend" in Atlantic City and I suggested Tomatoes for our dinner. I wasn't sure how it stacked up during the winter months as it did during the summer. But like it says in the title, it was consistently superb...and still packing in the crowds! Awesome food, ambiance and service!"

  • "The food was delicious and well priced. What at first seems like it will be pricey ends up being exactly what you wanted! The server was very knowledgeable about the menu and offered her opinions which were quite tasty. The calamari almost has a honey flavor even though it's seasoned with salt and pepper making it different and fun for your taste buds. The filet was cooked to perfection and the crab pasta had big chunks of crab :) definitely a place I'm looking forward to going back to."

  • "As usual food was amazing. I got the pistachio encrusted rack of lamb. Mmmm sooo good. I always get their coconut rice on the side cause I love it. Another great experience. Waitress was ok. Not the best I've had there but as long as I get what I ordered that's all that matters."

  • "We wanted to celebrate Valentine's day a day late. We were seated promptly even though we were a bit early. The waiter was excellent. He explained items we had questions about. We enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. Second visit there but not our last."

  • "We dined at Tomatoes on Valentine's Day. The waiter reccommended the duck. It was very overcooked, and chewy. When we complained he brushed us off!! Did not even anythoffer to do ing about it. We won't be going back anytime soon."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "Our first visit here and it was awesome! We had the salt and pepper calamari based on a lot of recommendations in the reviews. It came out within minutes of ordering it. It was still piping hot and freshly fried. The Chilean Sea Bass was amazing! Good flavor and cooked perfectly. The crab cakes came with grilled asparagus and garlic mash which was delicious! All in all great first impression and we will return for restaurant week in March!"

  • "Noise level is very high around the bar and at tables near the bar. In their "back room" away from the bar (where we were seated) the noise level is moderate to even quieter so that one can have an audible conversation. The food was very good, as was the service. The menu was varied enough and reasonably priced. We were able to call the restaurant directly and get our Open Table reservation moved up by almost an hour - very nice of them and convenient for us. Tomatoes is definitely a step above the nearby Sofia's and Steve and Cookie's."

  • "Food was outstanding....love the filet with the coffee flavored sauce and kale with onions and potatoes!! I give them extra special points because they have items on the menu that are gluten free!! I don't have to modify my order to meet my needs (wheat allergy).....they are already met. My husband had the tuna and that was just as good. This is one of our favorite restaurants!"

  • "I was able to make a reservation 3 days before on Open Table. Our waitress greetde us & told us about 3 different entree and appetizer specials. We started with fried calamari which was oustanding - light, crispy and tender. we each had a salad, my wife had the kale salad and I had their special caesar salad - both were fresh and tasty. My wife ordered one of the specials which was a francaise coated layer of lobster and egg plant, I orederd braised ribs over noodles. Both of our main meals were outstanding. We then ordered coffee and we shared a lemoncello sorbet dessert which was light and delicious. Overal I would recommend Tomatoes to anyone for a special or regular dinner!"

  • "This was a great choice for Valentine's Day. The food was excellent, with a good variety of meat, seafood, pasta and vegetarian. Portions were more than adequate as I had to take the second crab cake home. My husband said his shrimp corn chowder was excellent as was my brussel sprout salad with cranberries and walnuts. I would definitely recommend this restaurant but I understand you have to make a reservation in advance during the summer months. There is parking in the rear."

  • "Instead of eating at one of the casinos we decided to try Tomatoes. We had heard good things about it. Since it was our anniversary, we decided to sit down in the dining room and order from the regular menu . (there is also a bar menu a sushi menu as well). We had the fried calamari which was good once we asked for more sauce. However the portion was very small and there was more lettuce than calamari. We shared the duck and the Hamburger. Duck was extremely over cooked and the hamburger while good, was not worth the price. The hot Chocolate cake with Ice cream was good. Its a shame the food did not match atmosphere and the excellent service. But you go to a restaurant for the food!"

  • "Great food, the service was exemplary, might have been a touch noisey but conversation was certainly possible with a minimum of raising my voice."

  • "We were incredibly happy to have chosen Tomatoes for dinner! We received the recommendation from the Inn where we stayed for the weekend, and have to applaud them for their own starring system of the local restaurants; they were spot on with their five stars! The atmosphere was relaxing with music in the background, the wine list extensive and user-friendly, the food was just spectacular from the cheese plate app, to the shaved brussel salad, and finally to the Tuna and Chicken entrees; unfortunately we had no room for dessert. I would recommend this restaurant all day every day."

  • "Tim, our waiter, could not have been more helpful. The menu has great choices, but the specials made a selection even more difficult. Salads, soups, are great - who can argue with variations of bacon? Sea bass was meltingly smooth. Garlic green beans were perfect crisp-bitey. Coconut rice with the salmon would be too sweet on its own, but was great with the saltiness of the salmon. Roasted garlic & olive oil to spread on the bread was a treat. Banana something dessert was a perfect ending. Bar was crowded on this Jan. Friday night, restaurant was not. Can't wait to come back!"

  • "New Year's Eve pre fix menu-very good, however, ran out of 90% of the dessert choices- not good!!! therefore-we did not eat dessert but paid for 3 courses"

  • "I have been to Tomatoes several times in the past. I suggested it as an idea for my wife, sister-in-law and brother-in-law for NYE. We had a great time. The food and service were outstanding. I had the rack of lamb. It was excellent. Also, my party gave rave reviews about the Chilean Sea Bass. The desserts were excellent, again, and we had Key Lime pie. My only misgiving was the DJ's song choices, as they were very haphazard. Excellent time!"
