Tomas Bistro was carved out of an old factory in the Warehouse District and made to house a French Creole style bistro. The interior is unusual in its simplicity, with heavy use of mahogany wood & French decor and music, Tomas creates the feeling and look of France. A romantic and cozy warm feeling attracts diners for a small bite or a full dinner. The French-Creole style of old-world food brings to you the love of cooking to your table.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "The restaurant is quite dark. It is hard to read the menu or pay the bill if you have night vision issues. Download the flashlight app and use it :-). The turtle soup was delicious. However, the Veal Oscar plate was extremely salty."

  • "We had a wonderful time and a terrific meal at Tomas' Bistro. We all had fish and everyone was delighted with their choices. The catfish and grits was just the right amount of spicy and the pecan crusted fish was cooked to perfection. The only complaint was that the lighting was a little too dim to see the menu!"

  • "6th time at Tomas. Always consistent. Very good-great presentation on plate and we greatly enjoyed all courses we ordered. I do wish they would list the year of the wine on their wine list as just listing a winemaker/bottle without what year it was is pretty useless and certainly prevents me from ordering something better. Other than that peeve we always recommend when people come into our FQ store and ask for interesting places to eat."

  • "The food was great and the service very good. I had a experience and will go back again I have recommend the restaurant to a visiting friend."

  • "The food is always amazing each time we come. Love the atmosphere."

  • "Food is very good. The atmosphere is a bit stuffy, and I felt I was looked down upon for using a Groupon. The service was extremely slow, and had to ask for refills. With the price of the menu, I should be getting better service."

  • "The meal and service was awesome. Can't remember when we have had such a great meal. The lamb and filet was wonderful! Run, do not walk, to this wonderful restaurant."

  • "Every dish is prepared beautifully and is only surpassed by the taste."

  • "My wife and I recently dined here for our 2nd Wedding Anniversary.Much to our delight, our server,Helmuth, was very prompt and professional, giving expert descriptions of the menu items, while also remaining personable and interesting to us.We purchased a Groupon dinner here and made a reservation in advance through open table. Both Apps worked flawlessly in our experience. We ordered the mussells, the Bouillaisse Orleans[PHENOMENAL DISH!] & the VEAL as our main course, finishing with the Creme Brulee. The Sincerely,Sauvignon Blanc for a mere $7 a glass perfectly complimented the seafood with a semi-sweet mildly dry taste, while the Ramsay, Cabernet Sauvignon for $10 a glass finished off my palate in contentness of dark berries. Great Experience."

  • "Out for dinner with a group for a convention. The wait and chef were very flexible and made several dishes to preferences. My meal was the pecan encrusted fish which was spectacular! All in our party raved about their meal but it was a relaxing social dinner so i only recall specifically whati ordered. Service was very attentive without being disruptive. All in all a very nice experience"

  • "We had the sweetbreads, Duck Julia, and rack of lamb. Food was prepared perfectly. Great ambience with pleasant music playing softly in the background. Service was attentive and helpful."

  • "I frequent Tommy's Cuisine across the street regularly and wanted to give this place a try. The location itself was very nice. This is a great place to take dates, friends, and my parents being full Italian would have loved the decor. Its only downfall would have to be the wait staff as I did find my waiter nice he seemed very short and rushed... not very personal especially when asking for recommendations on the cosine. In all its a nice place and I would def recommend the BBQ oysters for an appetizer."

  • "The food was good, but some of the items (filet mignon, chocolate cake) are not up to the highest standards."

  • "The food was delicious. Server's were knowledgeable, courteous and made recommendations. Felt very high end throughout and deserving of the price tag."

  • "Group of 4 had an extended dinner here. Food was outstanding - at least the fresh fish. Proper sizes, not the NOLA extra large typical of most places. Could carry on conversation in normal tones even though we were in the center of the room. By the end of our dinner, the restaurant was packed (about 2100). Conveniently located in warehouse district near convention center."

  • "Food was good, service was great and a fun place to be - only down side was noise but not a problem for us."

  • "Honesty food was amazing, however out waiter was really quite grumpy and didn't make us feel welcome. Forgot the wine we ordered as well as brought dirty glassware and silverware to our table."

  • "Don't know how they cooked the asparagus, but it was a perfect fit for our fish entrees. The wife had the pecan coated fish and I the gulf fish. Potatoes were the base, which made a wonderful, well balanced meal. The room was a little too dark to read the small print menu, but otherwise ok. Most diners used their phone light to read the menu."

  • "Was in NOLA for a few days and saw Groupon so to save money decided to give it a try. Service was good and staff was attentive. Food was ok. Rack of lamb was said to be medium rare mine was medium well. The sauce and potatoes were good. The other dish we got was the veal with crab on top. Came with roast potatoes that tasted like they may have been frozen."

  • "From the friendly hostess, the relaxed and efficient waiters, to the delicious food and beautiful surroundings, it doesn't get much better at this restaurant!! The sweet hostess toured us the place and I was so impressed with the ballroom or large event areas available! The main area for diners was extensive also! Exposed brick and traditional furnishings made you feel cozy!! The menu seemed to have fewer offerings but the waiter quickly told us about the specials--so listen carefully or you will miss out on the best of the best!! All was served efficiently!! We had a wonderful meal and will be praising them alot!!"

  • "The food, ambience, and location itself was enjoyable. However from the start, the service was poor. I gave our reservation name, we were seated, and a few minutes later the hostess asked for my name again. We were never told of any specials for the night (evesdropped from a nearby table) and were the one table without a bread basket to pick on. No clue who our server was. One person randomly dropped menus on our table, and moments later another asked had we decided rather rudely. Hardly saw anyone else for the rest of the night. It was a week night, not busy, but we still felt unwelcome."

  • "Very good food, duck was excellent. Accommodated our special request for dessert. Definitely recommend this restaurant."

  • "As I read in some Yelp reviews, the service was abysmal from MULTIPLE servers. It took 15 mins to even get a nod from our waiter. Some awkward sesame seed bread that was hard as a rock was apathetically and silently plopped down. When our main waiter finally come over it was clear that he was running the show and we were just to nod and and be silent. No time for questions. Have a Groupon? You may as well be the scum of the earth the way he looked at us. It was not particularly busy either. Including us our waiter had 3 tables right next to one another (8 guests) Our actual food was all excellent but my birthday dinner was not pleasant due to the service at this place. Go for the food I guess, but expect bare minimum service."

  • "We enjoyed the food and the restaurant itself was nice but we were seated in a corner and the lighting was so dark that I really couldn't see the food we were eating. Towards the end of our stay some gentleman in a suit kept turning the lights up and down but they mostly stayed dark. We will try this place again."

  • "Because we are using the groupon. The waiter didnt even care to bring out the bread for us and he didn't even let us know what's the special that night. He didnt even care to ask if food is ok or not . He taking care the older group way better. But my husband and I still tip him 30% just to let him know next time please treat everyone the same even people with or without the groupon . He's an older waiter maybe he doesn't like to serve younger generation ???"

  • "Tomas' Bistro was quite the catch upon walking in the doors. The low lit ceilings (and decorated) caught my attention immediately. The wait staff don't just focus on their individual tables, but helps everyone out, which makes for a thorough dining experience. Food, drink, and price are incredible for the quality provided."

  • "My boyfriend and I went to this restaurant while visiting New Orleans. It was fabulous! The restaurant is off the beaten path, away from the hustle and bustle of the French Quarter but still close enough to the action. For an appetizer, we shared the crawfish crepe, yummmm! Must try if you go. I had the Duck for my entree and it was perfect! My boyfriend had the Veal and it was also good but the Duck entree was better. The server was very knowledgeable of the menu and made great recommendations."

  • "Thought it might be a fun casual change of pace, but I learned I need to stick with Tommy's if that's what I was craving in the first place."

  • "The food was excellent but the service was fair I felt like the groupon lessened his desire to work for a good tip All of us have years of restaurant experience n all of us at dinner have decent jobs - I just like to use groupon as a means to experience new places ! When I asked which app was best I was told one was hot n one was cold!! Really !! Anyhow the food was excellent n due to this I may try this place again"

  • "My steak was overcooked, but hate to judge it on just one night. Would give it another chance because everything else was really good -- service, ambience, etc."

  • "Our food was good, we went at 5:30, right as it was opening. Service was slow, but we had the time. New chef, according to the waiter. CREPES were AWESOME"

  • "Had the rabbit, house salad, and crab. The food was very good. The space is in the warehouse district and is tasteful. The restaurant uses teams to serve you and they clearly need to work on coordination - it was comical, and actually added to the experience. Overall, I was very happy with the food and would recommend if you are in the area."
    Dined on 3/8/2014
  • "Enthusiastic waiter to start, but as the restaurant started to fill up, we felt his attention drift to a larger table. His recommendation of the white chocolate mousse, should not be second guessed."
    Dined on 3/5/2014
  • "I don't think the chef is familiar with salt. The absinthe shrimp was tasteless until adding salt. The house salad was drenched in dressing and virtually inedible. The potato cake with the venison was also tasteless and the asparagus was either under done or overdone. Would not recommend."
    Dined on 3/3/2014
  • "Food and service were great. Quiet enough to actually have a conversation!"

  • "The oyster brie soup du jour was to die for! Did not care so much for the heirloom tomato salad. Loved the hot fresh sesame bread served as we sat down. Redfish entrée with crawfish topping was great."

  • "Six adults and one child dined at Tomas Bistro on a Thursday night. The consensus among the adults was excellent food and superior service will bring us all back again. Our waiter went above and beyond when he ran across the street to a sister restaurant to obtain some grapes for the infant in our group. Some restaurants do fish well at the expense of their meat selections. Tomas Bistro specializes in fish but those in the group who chose meat were as happy with their choice as the fish eaters."

  • "We had a great experience during Mardi Gras. We are local and like to find special places, Open Table is a real help when making last minute plans during busy days, much better than calling every restaurant!!! We had rabbit, venison and fish...all were fabulous!!!! We got all excited about our entrees and forgot to order appetizers. In my opinion the waiter should have asked about appetizers. We ended up ordering turtle soup (fabulous) and shrimp on avocado (fabulous) but it all came out with our entrees. No big deal we had tons to share itch each other!!!'"

  • "Waiter tried to cheat us out of $22. Had to redo the bill 3 times, and the third was after I got out a calculator and showed him exactly how much it should be. Food was ok but in my opinion it was overpriced. We spent $120 before tax and tip for 3people who all drank water. I don't mind paying that much for a restaurant if food/service/atmosphere are excellent but this place is not any of those."
