A word from Tom Hams Lighthouse
Tom Ham’s Lighthouse was built in 1971 by a man who was not afraid to put his name on his product. Rooted in warm welcomes & excellent food, Tom Ham made his lifelong dream a reality. Tom Ham’s Lighthouse is the only restaurant in the US to have a USCG operated & maintained Lighthouse attached to it. You can locate us on any modern nautical map as Beacon #9. Featuring a 100% responsibly resourced seafood menu & award winning Sunday Champagne Brunch, we are a must when it comes to the San Diego food scene. The dining room, purposely shaped like the state of California, allows for groups as grand as 92 yet private enough for a couple’s night out. Holiday brunches have been long time family traditions for many San Diegans. Start your family’s tradition this next holiday. With the best views of the Downtown City Skyline, Coronado & San Diego Bay, Tom Ham's is & remains a San Diego tradition in dining excellence since 1971.

  • I had come here once before
    OpenTable Diner Since 2009
    Dined on 2/14/2009
I had come here once before and liked it so decided to come again for the Valentine's Day special. The "California Gold" salad was good, as always (even though the waiter didn't wait for the walnuts to bring it out--doesn't make sense to me why he wouldn't--we had to ask for them after discovering they were missing). We both had prime rib and my prime rib came out undercooked (I had asked for "medium well" but it came out redder than my bf's, and he had asked for "medium"). The vegetables that came with the prime ribs were too salty for both of our tastes and the only edible ones were the asparagus. Service was choppy and not attentive and put a damper on our evening. We had a much better time the first time around.

  • First time at your restaurant.

    Dined on 2/14/2009
First time at your restaurant. My friend and I were quite impressed with the overall experience. We will definitely come back. We sat in a booth that was one step above the main floor. We had the most amazing view of San Diego, the bay, and sail boats going back and forth. I had requested a window table but the booth is the way to go. The food was excellent as well as the wine. The service was okay, it was a busy day so that can be expected. The memories will be charished forever. Thank you.

We used to love to go here, but with a major menu changed the food has not improved. Both shrimp meals ordered in my party was overcooked - tough, chewy, and slightly burnt. The service was ok with the exception of the "busboy" - he was great!

Not worth the price. Halibut overcooked; lobster tasted like dishwater! Bread and salad were good. Desserts too sugary sweet and average. Veggies tasted like they had been frozen and mac & cheese was a grainy disaster. Won't be back unless they upgrade.

  • We went for Restaurant Week,
    OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 1/16/2009
We went for Restaurant Week, and the food was good, though it would have probably been significantly better if it wasn't being mass produced like it always is for Restaurant Week. The place was packed, and it felt like they were slightly understaffed. Our waiter placed the wrong drinks in front of us for each of the 3 courses, but on a normal night that probably would not happen. The restaurant has a beautiful view, and was very quick to seat us with our reservation made through OpenTable. I would recommend to anyone who enjoys a nice downtown, bay view and some delicious food.

  • Our halibut was overcooked
    OpenTable Diner Since 2009
    Dined on 1/16/2009
Our halibut was overcooked and chewy. Perhaps because it was cooked on a maple plank... It was an interesting flavor choice however and the flavors were good. I ordered the shrimp appetizer and it was fairly plain. The side dishes were good and flavorful (a type of corn-cake with jalapeno and other spices). I enjoyed the view however I would not return due to the lack of pizazz in the food and the overcooked halibut.

We were pleasantly surprised how good the food way. My wife and I were a little reluctant when we initially walked into the place. It looked kind of run down. But when we walking into the main dining area, WHAT A VIEW!! We could see the coronado bridge, the downtown skyline, and occasional boats driving by. It was very romantic. The food was excellent and great service too! We will definitely be going back sometime in the future. Oh and by the way, I had this salad with candied walnuts and apricots. Best salad I have ever had!

My husband and I went to Tom Ham's Lighthouse for the first time last night. From the start, the service was impeccable. I started with the corn and clam chowder; my husband with the shrimp and prawns. While my clam chowder was really good, I couldn't help myself from gobbling up my husband's baby shrimp cocktail - YUMMY. The wine pairing for my chowder was ToastedHead Chardonay - very tasty. The next course I had lobster tail, which was served with asparagas and rice. The lobster was outstanding as was the asparagas; the rice left much to be desired - very dry. My husband had the Ribeye, which comes with an amazing mac and cheese - loved it. For dessert we both had the Girl Scout Thin Mint mud pie - OMG it was heavenly. AWESOME!!

    OpenTable Diner Since 2007VIP
    Dined on 12/31/2008
I went here for New Years Eve, and the service was absolutely horrible. I am typically understanding, when I notice a server has too many tables, but our server did not even make a fair attempt to wait on us. As he walked other tables he did not even so much as glance at ours. He came over after we was almost entirely done with our food to check to see if everything was okay, which it wasn't. The steak was over cooked and I had been waiting on a refill for quite some time. I had to get the hostess to hunt him down to bring me my check, because I sat around for 20 minutes or so, after he cleared our plates. He also made a rude comment, when they brought out our food about me not moving the bread and appetizer plates out of the way (his job).

My first experience at Tom Ham's Lighthouse was Christmas Eve 2007 and my party and I were blown away. The food was outstanding (Filet Mignon and Shrimp Diablo with Risotto and for dessert Red Velvet Cheesecake). I came back this Christmas Eve 08 and I wasn’t impressed. The menu totally changed and the food was less than average. The dessert plate was all chocolate chocolate chocolate. Was there a change in Chief's? Also, I was not pleased with our service. What happened?

Although the food was good, it was too little too late. There were 6 in our party and 2 say they will never come back to Tom Ham's. We might come back for brunch one day, but not for dinner. We got there at 6:15, was seated, and ordered our appetizers and dinner about 15 mins. later. The restaurant was not busy at all. One of our drinks, a Shirley Temple, tipped over and spilled - we were charged to get another one. Our appetizers came 50 mins. later after our party approached the manager about the horrible service - then, 5 mins. later, our dinner arrived! Later, the manager confessed that the server forgot to place our order in for the appetizers, but placed the order in for the dinner.
