A word from Toloache-Midtown
Welcome to Toloache (pronounced toh-lo-AH-tchay), chef-owner Julian Medina’s contemporary Mexican bistro located in the heart of the Theater District. Toloache is named after a flowering plant famed in Mexico for its use in love potions. We hope that when you dine with us you too will fall under the spell of chef Medina’s creative cooking, which incorporates seasonal and natural ingredients and more than a dozen types of chilies. Our festive, two-story space features a guacamole and ceviche bar, a wood-burning oven, and an exceptional tequila list, along with elegant decorative elements imported from Mexico. We looking forward to seeing you soon.Continued

  • "Service here is very good. They are very accommodating with menu changes/dietary restrictions. Food is very good."
    Dined on 7/9/2014
  • "We enjoyed sharing many dishes, and had a wonderful meal. We were treated well. It can get loud, but it's an easy price to pay for outstanding food and great drinks."

  • "I love the blended flavors and the imaginative ingredients. The fresh ingredients and combinations are delicate and tasty."

  • "Went here on the recommendation of a local. We were not disappointed. Great food. Excellent pre-show dinner."

  • "we went there before a play and were pleasantly surprised. most resturants in Broadway are overpriced and not good. this was a little pricy for lunch but was quite good. the menu was very innovative. the salsa is sexcellent."

  • "The food was very tasty and the service was good. The location of the restaurant makes it a great alternative for before or after a Broadway show."

  • "Second visit to Toloache-Midtown. First time we just happened to find it. This time had reservation. Although very busy weekend. We were early and immediately shown to our table. Service was excellent. Never had to wait for anything. Complimentary Flan for the birthday guest with singing was a nice touch. Will visit again next time in New York."

  • "My fiance, and I have been here twice. The food, the service and the entire dining experience, was great. I have traveled over 40 years and have to say that Taloache has found its self in my top all time 5 best places for dinner. Will be back many more times."

  • "We found this during intermission at a show and booked it thru OT because of reviews. What a great find, old world service and delicious food. Josephat the manager even stopped by the table to make sure everything was good. They truly care about customers."

  • "The short rib and marrow taco was insanely good: cut that richness with the acidity of margarita made with fresh clementine juice and the combination was fantastic. We had the trio of guacamole. Our favorite was the spicy version but we really loved the addition of small pieces of pineapple in the fruit version. It doesn't sound like it would work but it was really great. The shrimp quesadilla had a citrus slaw that was the perfect foil to the cheese and shrimp. My sister and I wanted to eat and chat at our own pace and our waitress was perfectly in tune with that. We were there for two hours and never felt rushed tough the restaurant was packed. Great meal. Great cocktails. Highly recommended. We loved the drinks and the food!"

  • "Great location if you were going to go to a broadway way show afterwards. Guacamole was great, but some of the other food was ok. I have had better Mexican food before, but the cocktails were amazing!!!!!"

  • "We arrived on time for our 5:30 dinner reservation and were seated immediately in a packed house - they asked about our show time upon arrival. Our waitress, Maria, was terrific, giving very good descriptions of drinks and food, along with a recommendation based on our preferences. All were spot on. In choosing between a shrimp appetizer on the regular menu and the special, she recommended the special, and said why - I eat plenty of shrimp and the half dozen topping the polenta was just the best! Since we had appetizers I had the tacos (it is stated that the tacos are appetizer size). So you are not surprised, the tacos are about 4" in diameter, but along with apps I found it JUST the right amount of food. Dessert- perfect."

  • "Food had some innovative aspects that differentiate it from an average Mexican restaurant. Service lacked grace or engagement"

  • "I was looking for a restaurant in the Times Square area so that it would be easy to get to a show. This place is amazing, the food is excellent. we had the spicy guacamole...awesome and then we ordered 3 different tacos and shared....all were so yummy. We also had the flan and churos for dessert. One of us has celiac disease, the waiter was very knowledgable about what was gluten free... My new place when in NYC!!!!!!!!!!!"

  • "The selections were great. The guacamole is made from scratch and tasty. Highly recommend the carne asada."
    Dined on 7/1/2014
  • "Each dish we ordered was really delicious and clearly made with very fresh ingredients. Additionally, the menu is full of really interesting dishes that aren't typically found on the average Mexican food menu. And despite how busy and full the restaurant was (on a Monday night!), the service was terrific - we never had to wait for anything but we never felt rushed."

  • "Good location in theater district. Went on a Sunday evening (6:30) and it was packed!! Very cramped seating and very noisy. Difficult to have a conversation over the noise. Food was good but pricey for what it was. Excellent guacamole. Also very good margaritas"
    Dined on 6/29/2014
  • "The service was very good and the food was fine but overpriced. The prices, lack of ambience and insane noise level will keep us from coming back. If you do go, have the Brussel Sprouts - they were hands down the highlight of the evening."

  • "A nice, light lunch with my granddaughter before seeing Wicked."
    Dined on 6/14/2014
  • "Ate here before, but brought friends who were unfamiliar with the restaurant. We were looking for a light bite before a show and they were impressed."
    Dined on 6/28/2014
  • "This is my second visit to Toloache but it won't be my last. The guacamole alone is worth the trip. Friendly staff, great drinks and fine food make for an excellent dining experience. We were running late due to traffic and the service was so spot on that we were able to enjoy our meal, relax over coffee and still make our curtain."
    Dined on 6/27/2014
  • "This was my second trip and the food is every bit as good as I remember. I am sure I will be back however, it is worth mentioning that the portions are small considering what you pay. I order the tacos and for $14 I basically got two very small street-size tacos. Think they could have added a third taco to make it a bit more of a value."

  • "The noise level is overwhelming but easily forgotten when the food arrives. Excellent choices"

  • "Everything was awesome! We loved everything we tried. Must try for fresh, homemade, and different Mexican fare. Would go again in a minute!"

  • "We had theater tickets and this theater district find GOT IT. They advised us well and got us out in time for our show. Our waiter was friendly and efficient. The noise level was, as would be expected at a theater district restaurant, pre-theater, very energetic - but the food, the food, the food. It was just great. Our kids were in from Madrid and they, who know their Spanish cuisine, were in heaven. One little taco (just the right size) was more delicious than the previous. Every dish we ordered was delicious. It was really outstanding food and we will go back either for another pre theater meal or just for a great Mexican dinner. Bravo Toloache!!"

  • "Needed a great place to eat after the theater and Toloache was it! Fantastic food, drinks and service. The brisket tacos (Suadero) were the table favorite along with the trio of guacamole. Will definitely be back!"

  • "Excellent flavors, fresh food, efficient service, good drinks, and comfortable atmosphere all made for a perfect pre-theater dinner."
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "I am always willing to try new places and make it a point to visit as many restaurants in NYC when I can get there. The food here lacked the wonderful Mexican flavors I love and was a little too contemporary for my taste. If contemporary means flavorless, then I will stick with authentic. The guacamole was bland and when we asked for spicy, all we got was a side of habanero sauce to mix in. Not the same! I ordered tacos in the hopes I could be a little reminded of my days vacationing in Mexico and was again disappointed. The only people that I think would enjoy this food are ones specifically looking for some new wave type of Mexican cooking. If you want flavorful authentic Mexican food, this is not the place."

  • "We went to Toloache Midtown late after the theater and we were not disappointed. The food was fun and flavorful and the service was good. Make sure to try some of the Chef's specialities. YUM! oh and get the guacamole."

  • "The service and food were good. Selection were upgraded from usual fare which was appreciated."
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "We had a great time with great food. The only regret we had was ordering a dinner instead of more small plates. The food was fantastic and it would have been nice to sample a wider variety - but that was our mistake, not theirs. Highly recommend it."

  • "Found a restaurant worthy of our repeat business when we crave Mexican food. We are from Texas therefore we love our Mexican food."

  • "We went to this restaurant for dinner on our wedding night and were running late and they accommodated this and extended the booking. We had a booking for six as the website wouldn't allow us to book for seven, but they accommodated this when we got there and added another table setting. The cocktails were awesome and very reasonably priced (compared to Australia) and the food was great too with good recommendations from the waiter. The waiter was really on the ball which makes the compulsory 20% group tip totally acceptable. We also received free tequila shots for the table and a free dessert when they realised it was our wedding night which was a lovely gesture. I would definitely recommend this restaurant!"

  • "Had a great time! Food, margaritas, and service were outstanding. Staff really went out of the way for us, when a third couple showed up in the middle of Theater service we had a larger table in no time. Entrée portion size varies so ask, staff menu knowledge good. Guacamole excellent."

  • "This is the third time I have been to Toloache's Midtown location and always think the food gets better each time I go. I've had the toloache shrimp from the main course list more than once. It is 4-5 huge shrimp with some amazing sauce and what I think is a really yummy jicama sauce on top. I've also had their tacos, fish, shrimp and meat and they were great as well. When I was there this past time, they had a shrimp empanadas special with hearts of palm, soo good!"
