A word from Toloache-Midtown
Welcome to Toloache (pronounced toh-lo-AH-tchay), chef-owner Julian Medina’s contemporary Mexican bistro located in the heart of the Theater District. Toloache is named after a flowering plant famed in Mexico for its use in love potions. We hope that when you dine with us you too will fall under the spell of chef Medina’s creative cooking, which incorporates seasonal and natural ingredients and more than a dozen types of chilies. Our festive, two-story space features a guacamole and ceviche bar, a wood-burning oven, and an exceptional tequila list, along with elegant decorative elements imported from Mexico. We looking forward to seeing you soon.

We found this spot nestled in Time Square amongst a lot of places that did not seem like they would provide the same amazing experience. This was our first dinner on our honeymoon and the dinner was so flavorful. The guacamole and hot salsa were extremely satisfying, the drinks were strong, and the dinner dishes were even more impressive. I had the Pollo Toloache and my wife had the Scallops with a Quinoz risotto. Both were fantastic dishes very full of flavor. The scallop was the most perfectly seared I had ever encountered. The servers were attentive and friendly. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you are on a date and want to impress someone with fine cuisine.

We went here late night after a show, and from the moment we walked in everything from the hostess showing us to our table to the waiter bringing us our check was spot on. The staff was extremely efficient and quick without being pushy at all. They were all very nice and helpful. We both got margaritas which were great. My girlfriend's got a quesadilla, and I got the pescado and brisket tacos. We split the avocado fries, which we had never seen before. Every single thing was amazingly fresh and delicious. We live in Baltimore but will definitely be back next time we make it up. Thanks for a perfect experience, Toloache!

Tacos (lobster and brisket) were light and full of flavor and the black beans and rice were as good as I have had in south Florida. You only get two small tacos so order some sides! We also ordered the chips/salsa and plantains- both were good but compared to the other food a little underwhelming. Ambience - very loud (but most restaurants in NYC are) and a little cramped. We sat upstairs- a bit of a steep climb for my aging relative. Great location though-right next to Gershiwen Theater. Overall, this restaurant deserves its stars!

We have been going to and enjoying Toloache for several years, but after this experience we shall think hard before returning. It might or might not be that Toloache has changed its table arrangement. However, even on a midweek evening the restaurant was so crowded and noisy that it was impossible to relax and enjoy our meal. The food was well prepared as always but it seems that portions were smaller and prices higher. It was amazing that the kitchen and waitstaff were able to keep the food coming at a fast clip in the midst of the chaos. When you feel relieved just to get out of the restaurant to the relative calm of the busy Manhattan streets you know you haven't had a satisfying experience. I guess this is the price of success.

From start to finish, delicious. Frozen mango margarita is brain freeze heaven. They use mango puree. Guac is well done. Trio is a great way to go but if you're appetite isn't that large, the fruit guac is a pleasant surprise. The brisket in the Suadero tacos was tender and flavorful. Suckling pig is ridiculously good. The skin was crisp and the meat fell apart, in a good way. Even my seemingly simple Toloache chicken breast was moist and layered with flavor. Although we were about to bust, we couldn't pass up the insane dessert offerings. Chocoflan, a hybrid of a firm, silky flan and a dense chocolate cake with caramel sauce and fresh strawberries and a warm fruit tart. Service is great. It's noisy and crowded but you don't feel rushed.

We eat in our local Mexican restaurant, Los Sarapes, (which is wonderful) frequently, and have been to Mexico numerous times and have eaten at some of the finest restaurants there. The food at Taloache was fine, nothing to rave about. The guacamole was almost tasteless, Paella with epazote flavored rice was good, black cod wasn't the greatest. The Sangrita was the best thing we ordered. I guess the prices reflect the proximity to the theatre district, over $300.00 for 4 people (we all shared the guacamole and one dessert). I don't think it was worth the price. The excellent service made up for the food, however.

Outstanding experience. From the hostess who had our reservation and actually read our note about have a 7pm show to the waiter who was quick and attentive but not overly so to even the other patrons who were friendly and happy to be eating the excellent food and drinking the amazing Margarita's at Toloache. The food is flavorful and a pleasure to eat. The drinks were excellent, I hate a watered down drink but these were obviously hand made, not from a mix margaritas, excellent tequila and knowledgeable staff. I would not hesitate to return. We were seated quickly, had a wonderful meal and drinks, and were out in time for our show. I will return.

It was National margarita day. After we saw Wicked, we saw Toloache right outside the theatre. Great find, guacamole is excellent. Margaritas are fresh and there is a great variety. Mexican food was on offer that was creative and not the standard offerings. The tacos we had (brisket) were a 10. So also the unusual avocado chips. The sea-food paella made us wish it was larger. Our service was friendly and professional. Yes, they also had guacamole but, with added fruit, was unlike anything we ever had before. Yes, it is noisy and the after-work bar crowd made the place seem crowded. But this did not take away from the meal.

Don't hesitate to ask questions about the menu. Our wait staff there has always been very good and could answer whatever we asked. The food is Mexican contemporary … a re-imagined version of traditional Mexican. If you have any doubts about exactly what you are ordering, ask! They'll be glad to tell you. And if you give them clues as to what you are expecting they can steer you in the right direction. But whatever you choose, you are almost certain to find it delicious and interesting. Great for before or after a show!

No matter what we ordered, everything was fresh and the chef had his own twist to the entrée. I can say that I can never have a regular taco again! Although it was busy, the waitress did not rush us and took time to explain to us what exactly we were ordering. She allowed us ample time to decide and checked on us frequently. Drinks were pricey, but good. I loved the pommengranite margarita. The flan and churros are a must!

Toloache offers a nice atmosphere with great service. Our waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable on the items offered. On the brunch menu they have dried grasshopper tacos. I travel from the island just for dinner and drinks. Also, great just before a show. Never had a bad dish and I've tried many. Service is great and bartenders are very knowledgable. Presentation and combinations of ingredients are not typical of what one would expect in a Mexican restaurant. If you open your palette and mind to try new things, you'll have a great time.

Located directly next door to the Wicked Gershwin Theatre, this is a great place to go before or after your show. What a nice change of pace for the theater district. A top notch Mexican restaurant. I'm tired of those Italian restaurants in the area with pasta this or pasta that for $35 a plate. Stuff you can make at home with a .99 cent box of pasta, grilled chicken and a $3 jar of tomato sauce. The food was very good at Toloache. Service was excellent. The decor and music is perfect for a Mexican meal. For a NYC theater district restaurant, I thought the prices were reasonable and food quality was excellent. I only wish they offered the Sangria in pitchers rather than individual glasses. $10 per glass is bit overpriced for sangria. Will definitely return upon a future trip into NYC.

We have been coming here for years because the staff is friendly and the food good. This time was a disappointment. My daughters steak was tough, and the guac salty. My expensive drink also seemed watered down. I have it every time and this was not as good. My lobster tacos were still good, but I will think twice before coming again. Sad.

I love going to Toloache before the theatre. It is not only convenient, but the small plates (tacos) that they have are incredibly good and not at all overly filling before going to sit in a dark room for 2 hours. The flavor combinations are so good. And it is not over-priced for the portion size and location...you aren't being charged more just for the pleasure of being near the crowds at Times Square. The restaurant is compact, and even for just 2 people, I still like making a reservation. Sitting at the bar is also a great option.
