"I had two exceedingly enjoyable experiences at Tolani thanks to barkeep Adrian. Of course, the huge oakish communal bar and dining table didn't hurt. The space has an organic feel to it that translates smoothly into its food: the lamb sliders are a highlight, and their pannekoek (Dutch pancake) fits the bill. Tolani is a fun weekday getaway - you're never rushed - the best wine bar I've been to in the neighborhood. Prices could be kinder, but this IS the Upper West Side."

"A nice and unexpected discovery. Highly recommend. Only downer was that they ran out of two of my dining choices and I was seated at 8:00 pm. But the food was delicious and service was attentive."

"The downstairs dining room is very pleasant and the food is interesting. Good wines on the list are quite expensive and the selection of more moderately priced ones is disappointing, so the name "wine restaurant" is a misnomer. Go on a quiet evening in midweek and sit downstairs to avoid the deafening din of loud, throbbing music and people shouting above it to be heard."

"I've never written a review before on Open Table but had to after having dinner Sat. night at Tolani. Previous reviewers had said the noise was loud upstairs but didn't note any problems downstairs. Our party of four ate downstairs, and even though the restaurant was not totally full, the noise was the loudest I have ever experienced at a restaurant, and I've been to many. Our ears literally were ringing, and we all had headaches when we left. The restaurant should put some acoustical tile on the ceiling to absorb some of the sound.

The food was middling at best, and the servers did not seem knowledgeable about the wine list. The dinner was overpriced; $60 per person with no dessert or coffee. And they charge for the bread basket."

"Nice neighborhood restaurant with brick, wood, bar scene. Food was fair with lamb sliders that were overdone and dry, tacos with very little flavor and mediocre guacamole. Very noisy and busy. If food would improve, would be much more enjoyable."
