Tocquevillelovely eveningMy wife and I had a wonderful meal here Saturday night. We were celebrating our anniversary and the staff made every effort to make it a special night. Great food, fantastic service, I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a romantic spot to eat well!6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb meal. Extremely attentiveSuperb meal. Extremely attentive and personal service. Wine list too expensive. But whole evening wonderful. Highly recommend.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMTocquevilleI've had lunch several times at Tocqueville, this was the first time that I have eaten dinner here. It was excellent on all fronts. Great food, outstanding service, elegant yet quiet. I hosted a table to celebrate my daughter's graduation from high school. I chose the restaurant because I wanted to celebrate in a restaurant that served outstanding food in a beautiful room with low noise which could accommodate many food preferences (my daughter is a vegetarian and I don't eat meat). Everyone was delighted with their meals. Tocqueville has many plates that are suitable for vegetarians, their fish is sublime. To top it off, they brought my daughter a beautiful desert to celebrate her graduation (which we did not order). Brillant.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful food and service.Wonderful food and service. Wait staff really knows the menu and presentation of food is explained. Little treats throughout like an amuse bouche, and candies with coffee and dessert. Though expensive and elegant, not formal. Really special meal.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfectWe had dinner here for our 27th anniversary. Everyone went out of their way to make it special for us. The food was outstanding. The staff were wonderful. We highly recommend.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMTerrific restaurantThe food was exceptional, especially the uni on angelhair pasta - which had a wonderful unique flavor. Everything else was exceptional. The fig napoleon desert was memorable. Service was perfect. We wanted a very special dinner with old friends visiting from Western Australia, and none of us was disappointed. We stayed a long time and were never rushed.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a pleasureWe took our daughter and her husband here for her birthday, and it was a luminous evening. The food is superb, the service outstanding, and of course the room is serenely beautiful. It's a rather formal restaurant, not a casual-meal place, but if you're looking for something a little elevated, Tocqueville is a wonderful experience.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMUnderstated LuxuryOn 05/19/13 we had a wonderful experience at Tocqueville. The food was perfectly prepared and no one rushed us. Seating is very comfortable in its understated luxury. My wife and son had the poached lobster and I had the scallops. Both were terrific.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMSpecial nightWe celebrated out 15 year wedding anniversary. We had honeymooned in France and went to Quebec on our 1st anniversary. This capped off the theme and added a great memory. The service could not have been better. The food could not be better. The menu was unique and delivered. We have nothing negative to say. It was just a perfect night.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMOur favorite, as always.I just would have appreciated a slightly larger portion of the mushroom terrine, because my two guests wanted to taste. Now back on an island in Maine, we are dreaming of the chocolate soufflé.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb service and cuisineWe went to Tocqueville for mother's day brunch and could not have been more satisfied with the experience. The ambiance was lovely and it was quiet enough to hear everyone at the table. Each course was perfectly balanced, beautiful to look at, and tasted even better. I would love to come back here again for a special occasion and sample the regular menu.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had lunch at the restaurantWe had lunch at the restaurant on a Friday. A great combination of excellent service, an unusual and exciting menu, and a beautiful room made for a memorable dining experience.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food great ambianceWe have only eaten there twice, since we're out of towners, but will make it a must-do for future trips to New York City. had a hard time choosing from the menu, everything looked delicious. Loved everything about the experience.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat restaurant but.....Wish our pricey poached lobster was cooked thoroughly. We celebrated our anniverary with friends and the restaurant could not have been more accomodating. Loved the restaurant, ambience, service and dining experience. Would defintely recommend it.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMA Birthday CelebrationIt was my wife's birthday and as this is a favorite restaurant of hers, it was my choice for her celebration. Lovely people greet us at the door, take us to our table, ask if we would like a glass of champagne and leave us to enjoy the beauty of the place. The sommelier is a joy; he knows his wines and delights in sharing his knowledge. The food was delicious, all fresh and well-prepared, served without a lot of superfluous flourish but graciously presented.
It's a place we have always enjoyed. It never disappoints.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, service and experience! We chose Tocqueville for our 20th anniversary and it was a pleasure from start to finish. The ambiance was wonderful, seating was comfortable, the food was amazing, and the service impeccable. We particularly appreciate the sommelier was well informed and very patient with finding the right wine parings for us. I strongly recommend this restaurant and look forward to dining there again.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMUnion Square's French GemA lovely restaurant with a beautiful ambiance. The food is splendid and the noise level very low and easy for conversation. The only small criticism is the service which can be slow at times and at other times feels a bit overbearing (as in the Sommolier).
Otherwise really first rate.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMThree friends went to ToquevilleThree friends went to Toqueville for lunch to celebrate a special birthday. From the moment we entered the restaurant we received the most gracious service from all who helped us. Good wine list with gentle suggestions from the maître.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had the 5-course tastingWe had the 5-course tasting menu with wine pairing, and were offered two more complimentary courses (What a lovely surprise! ): an appetizer trio with sparkling wine from Spain, and a cheese sampler with Loire Valley red. Top-notch food and service, knowledgable sommelier, elegant and unpretentious space. From the moment we walked in till the end of the meal as the last customers that evening, it was a flawless experience. Thank you, Tocqueville team!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMPortions are a bit on thePortions are a bit on the small side considering the price. Everyone very much enjoyed their meals4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMMichelin-star ready restaurant!!!We had a wonderful meal here on a quiet Sunday evening. The food was delicious and the staff were amazing. The dining room is lovely, romantic and nice & quiet. I am not sure why this restaurant does not have a Michelin star yet?!?!4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful evening outWe went to Tocqueville for our very first wedding anniversary, so expectations were definitely high. On arrival, we were greeted warmly by the hostess who wished us a happy anniversary and took our coats. We were then seated at a corner booth which was lovely and cosy. We got:
Appetizer - snapper tartare and sashimi
Entrees - seared diver scallop and foie gras; beef sirloin and braised cheek duo
Dessert - blood orange cheesecake
They asked thoughtfully if everything was to share, and plated up everything in two servings so we didn't need to deal with trying to cut and share food.
To top it all off, they gave us a complimentary dessert of dark chocolate wafer cake and hazel nut ice cream, with "HAPPY ANNIVERSARY" written on the p4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb food and understatedSuperb food and understated elegance. Lovely.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMTocqueville: Dining at it's FinestTocqueville was the perfect restaurant for our "cousins" brunch for three. It's quiet, elegant, refined, relaxed atmosphere made for a special experience. Service was excellent, attentive, caring, presence known without being fawning. The food was delicious, a lovely combination of textures and fresh products beautifully presented. We felt unhurried, attended to and cared for.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely restaurant, deliciousLovely restaurant, delicious food. Always a good experience.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMPretty dining room. Good lunchPretty dining room. Good lunch price fix. Not much options but well-prepared.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMA terrific restaurant....especiallyA terrific restaurant....especially for very special events. The food, service and ambiance are first rate.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperior in every wayWhere to begin? The food, service, ambiance, everything was flawless. The prices may seem, well, pricey, but the value you are getting is considerable. The fact you are getting dishes you can't really get anywhere else makes this a not-miss establishment, and my server pointed me in the direction of fantastic ones. The sea urchin carbonara was mindblowing, but so was a rather inconspicuously-titled wild mushroom salad, featuring both whole and pureed mushrooms in a creative side-by-side pairing. Even the sunchoke soup was breathtaking, and the chef would not reveal its secrets! Divers Scallops, duck terrine, and chestnut Napoleon rounded out this meal for the ages. I wouldn't change a thing.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is a gastro destination. This is a gastro destination. Worth a trip to dine there. A somewhat formal atmosphere3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good food - short on value. My girlfriend and I both tried the four-course tasting menu ($85). Overall, the food very good. We both agreed that the diver scallop/ foie gras dish was the best. The Chocolate Souffle dessert was also very good. All dishes were very well thought-out. Portion sizes were smaller based on the four-courses. Was it worth $85pp? Maybe - if it was a special occasion. As other reviewers mentioned, good food, glad I went, but won't be running back.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMFood CoutureChef Justin Lawless is a breath away from receiving a much deserved Michelin star.
Hands down the best dining I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing.
Nab a table at Tocqueville while you still can.
A fashion industry insider, I call it "food couture." The highest of compliments.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMChef's Toque Shines at TocquevileDining at Tocqueville is definitely a worthwhile experience, albeit costly. I loved the fact that when my husband and I ordered the tasting menu -- we each got different things to eat! Notable dishes: parmesan grits with a sunnyside up egg, scallop with foie gras, braised beef cheeks, duck breast with an amazing citrus consomme, halibut poached in duck fat. Loved the extra dishes, too -- the small cheese plate, the best blood orange sorbet I've ever eaten. Would love to see a wine list that was wallet-friendly.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMElegant room, first classElegant room, first class service, very good cuisine.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMgood taste is alive and wellOne of the rare gems of a restaurant where you are treated as though you are very special, the food is fabulous and you feel like you have been in an oasis of good taste.

The dining room is elegant and the tables well spaced. We ordered the 4 course signature tasting menu with wine pairings and a 5 course tasting. Everything was delicious and unusual. Glad I went with the tasting because I probably would have shied away from some of the combinations that delighted me upon arrival. The only disappointment was a slightly dry souffle but the accompanying sorbets were delicious. Staff was warm and accommodating.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is a gem, right nearThis is a gem, right near Union Square. The ambiance, service and the food all come together in a perfect way. The pasta carbonara with sea urchin was amazing, as were all of the appetizers ordered by our table. The main courses were equally exceptional, with the veal and steak dishes combining multiple preparations. Highly recommended and quite special. We will certainly return.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat experience with 6 peopleGreat experience with 6 people at round table. Service was great. I had a 5-course tasting menu that was slightly more adventurous than my wife's 4-course, and we both loved every bite. Staff was very courteous and attentive. The sommelier felt a bit pretentious at first, but warmed up later. It's certainly a pricy menu, but worth it for the good memories.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMSolicitous service. AmbitiousSolicitous service.
Ambitious menu, but execution does not meet the description of the food.
Major drawback, we ordered a drink that turned out to be an astonsihing $150 for a shot pour. Waiter never mentioned price.
That alone is inexcusable given the fact that he went to great lengths to point out all of the costs of the specials.3/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
