We enjoyed the atmosphere and love that this place has local food but were dissappointed. The server was not very helpful and the food we ordered was not great. We loved the wine and the cornbread but the server came and cleared the cornbread from the table before asking if we wanted anymore. He waited a long time before greeting us at the table as well. When I asked for suggestions since it was our first time there he wasn't helpful. We ordered the trout that was on the special list and it was not cooked correctly nor seasoned well. The brussel sprouts were delicious but the server never even came back to our table to ask how our meal was. I have been to many restaurants and was dissappointed that this food and service was sub-par!

This used to be one of our favorite restaurants...it has changed...not for the good. They have changed the cornbread recipe!?! The cornbread was one of the biggest reasons to eat here!! Why mess w/something that's wonderful. My meal (Lamb ragout over pasta) looked and tasted like reheated leftovers from the previous day. Honestly. The pasta bed was a mushy overcooked matt, like you would expect of microwaved leftovers. The lamb was equally unappetizing..dry and tasteless.

Every moment of our experience seems to have been thought through. Our waiter got busy with a large table and hadn't taken our order, another person whom i think was the manager jumped in and took the order for him. it was nice to see that kind of cooperation. They took care of us first. My favorites, the charcuterie board, sheperd's pie, steak frits, porchetta, rib (somthing) with polenta and the barley soup filled with flavor. not so much, favorites the batterd perch lacked flavor, or spice , if that's a thing, i didn't get it. the cream onion soup, was too creamy and lacked flavor. Maybe too delicate for my taste. OUT OF PATE, WHAT? (: i cant wait to go back. congratulations, you have a winner.

I'd been dying to try Toasted Oak for sometime and decided to try the brunch. I had the chicken and waffles which is a southern favorite and Toasted Oak missed the mark on this dish. The chicken was burnt, fried too hard and was dry and outside of the "cakey" batter lacked any flavor. The cornflake waffle was quite tasty thank goodness. The dish was served lukewarm so I wasn't too pleased with that aspect. My coffee was lukewarm and had to be sent back as well. I will say that the menu had a lot to offer and I am definitely going to give this restaurant another try. I think it would be worth a second chance. The ambiance was nice and wait staff was great.

We have been traveling to Detroit area for soccer over the past 4 years and finally found somewhere we actually want to return too (which is a shame considering it's our last trip prior to son going to College). Nice atmosphere, friendly staff and good service. Menu limited but well thought through with something to meet most tastes. We had steak frites (excellent, in fact, one of the best steaks I have had for a long long time - smokey flavor with hand-cut/grilled frites) and mushroom pizza which were both excellent. Would definitely seek it our again if in area - don't be off put by the fact it is attached to a hotel.

Disappinted; we were seated by the window-with my back towards the dining room---(cold)----- seating WAS available in a better location (I suppose I could have asked to be moved) but why were we not seated at a prime table when it was available-----ordered an appetizer which took about 15 minutes to be served; our entree was then served within another minute. My wife had the pancakes, which were served without syrup-----by the time she got the syrup, said pancakes were cold. My steak & eggs were great, but should have been served with a steak knife & offered steak sauce. Anticipating a casual but premium brunch, but it just didn't happen. We were repeat diners at this location and our prior experience was fantastic----What changed???

Celebrating Mom's 90th birthday, reviews were good and we were excited about the concept of farm to table food. The menu was limited so we felt certain all the entrees would be superb. Sadly, our dinners ranged from mediocre to downright inedible (yes, that was Mom's meal!) We eat at fine restaurants regularly and are not difficult to please. Our waitress started out friendly and helpful and went downhill from there. When we advised her Mom's duck was inedible, she merely looked at us and promptly moved to another table. When nothing happened, we asked someone else for a manager. The manager, although polite appeared inexperienced. The duck was taken off the bill and a $30 certificate was given to entice us to return. Not likely.

Was happy to hear there was an Open Table restaurant attached to our hotel. This was extremely convenient. We tried it for both brunch and dinner. Food quality was very good but the service was poor. We had to wait nearly an hour to get our main course and attention was lacking. Still, if I stayed at the hotel again for business, I would probably find myself back as the food offerings were very good.

I went in later in the evening with a colleague and the setting was nice by the fireplace. I ordered Gnocchi and it was somewhat over done with sauces on top .... I didn't really like this. Having been to Italy many times, I guess I am spoiled and expected better. My colleague had mussels and they looked quite good. Perhaps they should take the Gnocchi off the menu and focus on other dishes which are more of a local specialty.

Though located as a hotel restaurant, the food and service were sharp and inspired. The local food was crafty and tasty and the food and drink knowledge of our waiter was impressive. We arrived just that day and wanted to see what the food scene was like in the Detroit metro area. The answer is: it is thriving! Thanks for a great experience!

We were at Toasted Oak on Saturday evening for my mom's birthday. The atmosphere was great, the server was attentive and friendly and all around awesome. The food was incredible. I had shrimp, my mom had the Amish chicken, and my boyfriend had a steak. It was all so amazing I can't even decide which dish was my favorite. I will definitely be coming back as often as I can, I absolutely love that place.

Toasted Oak had great ambiance and good food. That being said....we were very hungry after finishing our dinner. Very small portions. This would be fine if the restaurant was a small plates scenario or fine dining. It would have been expected. I felt like the waiter should have told us to order sides, which was an option, but we didn't really think about it much. Service was a little slow but that could have just been our waiter.

My wife and I dine here every 2-3 months or whenever we have a reason to celebrate. From the kitchen to the host stand, the team does an excellent job in every aspect. We rarely wait for a table, the servers, especially Suzie, are very friendly, and the kitchen makes every dish to your liking. They also do a fantastic job in accommodating all of our food allergies/restrictions, to the point of seeing it as a fun challenge and not a burden. During this visit, the power went out briefly due to the gale force winds, but the backup generators kept the evening going. Even without power for 5 seconds, the dim lighting was provided by their assortment of cozy, house-made candles.

We have dined here before and were happy with both the food and service. i'm hoping this was just a bad night for them. My wife's fish was tough and chewy. the server and the manager were both terrific about it and they did cook another piece of fish for her but by the time it arrived at our table, i had already finished my dinner--i had waited as long as I could but I didn't want to eat my food cold. Hopefully, they will get it right the first time, next time!

Went with some girlfriends based on reviews. I'd never been but others had. Wine/drink list is extensive, service was friendly both at the bar and in the dining room and decor was very welcoming. It wasn't very busy but it was a holiday weekend. We got calamari to start and it was very good. Two of us ordered soups with salad as our entree and two ordered entrees. I was disappointed with portion sizes considering the price. Both of the entrees were about $30 and they got less food than the people who just ordered soup and salad. $8 for a tiny cup of onion soup that was just average seems like a lot. We were all hungry again at our next stop of the night.

This winery will definitely be on our list of places to visit very soon! The meals by Chef Brian and wines selected by Steven were delicious. The watermelon salad was my favorite, but my new favorite wine is the Reserve Red by Verterra. Couldn't have asked for a better evening out with my husband and good friends.

Toasted Oak used to be our favorite restaurant and it's sad to see the service and food decline. We made a reservation for 2 and when we arrrived, the hostess took 5 mins to seat us. She had an entire conversation with another employee at the host stand about where to put us and the fact that they didn't have enough wait staff. It made us feel unwelcome and set the tone for the meal. Once we were seated, it took 10 mins for a server to greet us and bring us water. From there, the entire meal service was slow and the staff seemed entirely disinterested in making the restaurant a welcome and inviting place.

I love toasted oak. We are obsessed with the charcuterie and cheese, the market is adorable, and the servers use to be so knowledgable. That being said, I have no idea what's happening to my fave place. The last two servers I've had are dumb as dirt. Don't know the menu at all and can't suggest anything to us. The cornbread, a toasted oak staple, had the recipe changed and it now tastes like licking cardboard. Why are you changing a good thing? The charcuterie and cheese board... We use to love it. I'm fine with inflation, if a restaurant needs to make more money. But we ordered the same size board we have gotten for 3 years and it came out on a tiny michigan shaped cutting board, stuff falling off, no dipping sauce... So sad.

We were waited on promptly by friendly staff. We had a large party (8), but we weren't slow to make decisions. The full experience was two and half hours - well over an hour waiting for the entrees. Food was pretty good - several farm to table options. The waitress announced to the table that gratuity was included - and then took the opportunity to point out we could tip in addition to the 18% already included. I have hosted plenty of large dinners where gratuity was included, but cannot recall ever being reminded that I could exceed the included amount.

This is the second time that I have been to toasted oak. The first time I was slightly disappointed and thought a return visit may quell my initial experience. It did not. Overall the atmosphere and food concepts are great. Unfortunately, the food itself leaves much to be desired. This go around I ordered the perch, and while nothing to brag home about, it definitely met the mark in terms of what I would consider a perch dinner, although a bit pricey at 20+ for fish and chips. We also ordered the beef tartar which was over salted and had an odd citrus flavor, unusual for the dish, and not in a good way. Overall, most of the dishes we ordered were not seasoned well and the price points were high.
