  • "Have been here several times and have always been impressed with both the food and the service. Last Saturday, our luck ran out. The pickled beet salad, which has always been one our favorite item at Toasted Oak, was so salty to almost be inedible. Worse, since we never saw our server again before she delivered our entrees, and then only as a fly-by, we were never given the opportunity to express our disappointment. By the time the bill came, it was too late to complain, lest it seem merely a plea to adjust the bill. What I really wanted was the usually splendid beet salad."

  • "We have visiited Toasted Oak for lunch on several occasions and thoroughly enjoyed the food, service and quiet environment. Brunch was chaotic, loud and uncomfortable. It was impossible to talk to our guests with the noise level. The food was fair - Our guests reported that their food tasted reheated - pork loin menu item and potatoes with the eggs benedict. We won't be back for Brunch however we will continue to 'do lunch' when we are in the area."

  • "We enjoyed the food - My vegetarian wife really enjoyed the Arugula salad, and I had the Toasted Oak Porchetta. We shared the drunken mushrooms and also ordered the "Chef's Favorite Vegetables", but those didn't some out until we were finished with our meal. I ordered a beer and my wife ordered a soda after about a 10 minute wait of sitting down. By the time the food came out, we had consumed them and were never offered another. My wife did ask for another soda, but the waiter (Eric, I believe) forgot to bring it and we ended up drinking the water they brought us. She never did receive the soda and I ended up only having that one beer, which I was longing for another to pair with my rich dinner plate."

  • "A great adult place that also caters to children. We went from brunch on Sunday, sat by the fireplace and enjoyed a mimosa with my meal. They have a Bloody Mary Bar, and a Mimosa Bar and other Bars set up too. The kids have their own bar where they can add goodies to their pancakes or waffles and there's a place for them to curl up (complete with blankets and pillows) and watch a movie or color while waiting for their food. Very impressed!!!"

  • "Our server was a very good and talked us through the menu. She even talked with us about the Brussel sprouts in which we were hesitant to try. She ordered them anyways and told us they were on her because we had to try them. They were delicious and she was very good to us.We will be back!"

  • "While the exterior of Toasted Oak is a but underwhelming, the atmosphere inside is wonderful and the food was even better. Within the Renaissance Hotel, the restaurant is easy to find with ample parking. Great selection of beers on tap. Specialty cheese and meat platter appetizers are superb. Main courses were truly exceptional. We tried what our waiter called "pork on pork on pork" which was spectacular. We'll be back!"

  • "i have eaten at this resteraunt multiple times since it has opened. it used to be really good but over time has just lost its touch. food just keeps getting worse and worse. i will not likely be back to eat here again. gave me a ceaser salad that looked like it has been sitting in dressing all day and when i told them it was soggy and old they told me they throw the lettuce on the grill??? i can tell a cook mark from a old soggy brown lettuce mark, yes it was slightly charred which makes it worse knowing that it was cooked and still soggy, trout was dry, vegetables had no flavor and were cold, only thing that was good was the steak tar-tar. my lamb ravioli was alright but not great."

  • "We used to love Toasted Oak. It was our go to place for a nice dinner out. However, we will not be returning. Do not sit by door to hotel. Like being in a wind tunnel. When we asked to move, hostess lied about restaurant being full. However several tables sat empty the entire time we dined. Removed best dish on menu, the frickin great chicken, and replaced it with what I can only call a roasted chicken that was reheated in a deep fryer and then covered in a sauce that was flavoured like gravy out of a tin. Corn bread at beginning even tasted old and crunchy, not moist like previously. Very disappointing changes and service."

  • "I visited this restaurant with group of friends for a celebratory dinner. The food was good, but it took a long time to get to us. Our waitress was very quiet and was difficult to hear as the crowd was energetic. The wine corking fee was also not obvious before we ordered two bottles. The most disappointing part of our evening was our bill (split into 5 parties) the appetizer was not put on the bill we asked it to be put on, but split 5 ways. This was not a huge deal, but then one of the bills was charged twice, resulting in 6/5 being charged for the app. When questioned, the waitress said she'd have to take all of the bills back, after half had already been officially closed. Overall, not the food was fine but I will not be returning."

  • "This was our first time. We liked the variety with the menu choices. The portabella mushroom and chicken artichoke pizza's were tasty and can be shared. One guest wasn't crazy about the presentation of the Caesar salad as she preferred it chopped up rather than a whole lettuce. I would come here again to try other dishes on the menu. Also, the bar looked unique to hang at."

  • "My girlfriend and I went in, not knowing that entrees were between $18 & $30, but we were out for Valentines Day early, so we were prepared. Our service was great, the guy was very helpful to us as we hadn't dined there before. We had a small charcuterie board with 3 meats off their list from the market, we went with pork rillette, salame, and smoked chorizo sausage. We were very satisfied with our choices. But the best part of the night came in our entrees, I ordered the Porchetta which was delicious, pork tenderloin wrapped in housemade kielbasa over potato gnocchi, it was delicious. My gf ordered the filet mignon which was cooked perfectly and melted in your mouth. Everything was well worth the price when we got the bill."

We requested a table in the main area near the fireplace---well, we were seated at THE table directly in front! Very pleased.   • "The food was less than I have had in the past and I wasn't pleased at all with the tenderness and amount of grizzle in my Rib Eye steak. My colleague also ordered the Rib Eye and had the same complaint. Hopefully it was just a bad batch so when I come again, I will find out by ordering the same meal."

  • "THE FOOD. I'm having delicious flashbacks just thinking of it. We ordered the poutine for a starter, well because poutine is always a fun treat and it seemed like a perfect beginning to our meal due to the arctic temperatures outside. Pork belly, caramelized onions, mushrooms and a poached egg top off this amazingly decadent item. We followed up with the porchetta and the fried perch, and both were made to perfection. Our server brought us dessert (butterscotch brownie topped with cinnamon ice cream), and let me tell you, it was to die for. (Thank goodness we had the rest of our meals wrapped to go, otherwise there would have been no room). I'm literally thinking about the next time I can go back to try everything else on the menu."

  • "This place has so much promise and yet it manages to let me down every time. Here is why: the place has character. The items on the menu pretend to also have a character. It is in a good place where there aren't really any good restaurants so people go there. But, the food comes out normally as average, the menu has not changed in the past 1.5 years, and the service is basically poor with most servers exhibiting an attitude which does not include the spirit of being friendly and taking care of the guests. I am from California (and visit Michigan at least a few times a year). This restaurant is inside a very nice Renaissance hotel that I stay in and the hotel people are great. Why isn't the restaurant model after that?"
