Toast kitchen & wine barI keep coming backI have dined at Toast, I estimate, a dozen times with friends and family and my guests and I always have enjoyed it thoroughly. It is a rare treat to have a place so comfortable with consistently excellent, elegant food.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat find!I found this restaurant by flipping through the City Paper Dining Guide. With colleagues visiting from New York, I wanted to continue their perception of Pittsburgh as having great food and great music. Toast did not disappoint. Great taste! Great presentation!5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding FoodWe chose the tasting menu and the portions were huge and delicious. The vegetables were fresh and the meat was prepared perfectly. Will come back again.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFresh salad, nice dressing

Remarkable monkfish---lobster would take a back seat!
Farm raised chicken---perfectly prepared, moist, seasoned deliciously.
Non-drinkers, enjoyed Perrier with meals.
Delightful!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMTwo words : BRAISED RABBIT.Two words : BRAISED RABBIT. One of best dishes in the city. !!!!!74/26/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was such a pleasant surprise. This was such a pleasant surprise. I expected to be underwhelmed as restaurants so rarely live up to their reviews but this was a winner. My family was here for a graduation and this was a great start to our weekend. Would not hesitate to recommend.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had another great dinnerWe had another great dinner at Toast. I had the tasting menu with paired wines -- excellent! I love that this restaurant has a limited menu and produces such great food.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was outstanding, atmosphereFood was outstanding, atmosphere was great. we will request upstairs next time.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMMenu is inventive with offeringsMenu is inventive with offerings other restaurants don't have. I had rabbit, which had wonderful flavors--a rich, savory dish. Scallops appetizer was also very good. Everything cooked to perfection. Extensive wine list. Will definitely go back.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMI have dined here many timesI have dined here many times and I have yet to be disappointed! This time, with a colleague, and we opted for the prefix menu. I had the beet salad, the chicken liver pate and the braised rabbit - sublime - every last morsel! My colleague enjoyed the shrimp and grits and the BBQ pork shank (huge) and Donuts with butterscotch sauce. We had a great and resonably priced bottle of wine. Will return in several weeks to see whats new! So much greatness on the menu and so little time!4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMToast kitchen & wine bar livedToast kitchen & wine bar lived up to every expectation. We started with a delicious shrimp and grits appetizer, which was quite good. I ordered the braised rabbit, which was absolutely amazing, not to be missed! My boyfriend had the monkfish, which was also excellent.
The atmosphere was romantic with wood-paneled walls and candlelight. We ate upstairs near the kitchen, but hardly noticed that we were right next to it. It was nice and quiet. Service was good, not obtrusive and we did not feel rushed. I will definitely return to Toast!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGet a nappyHaving something close at hand in Shadyside with fine dining is a delight. The food and wine flights for the gourmand, the single source for the gourmet. The mushroom Napoleon is to die for.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMJay B.Service was really great this visit. Food was a little off as the head chef was off this Monday. We will try it again but only on a night when the chef is working. Holly was great and friendly and accommodated out request. Getting a little pricy for the quality of the food that was served.3/25/2013 12:00:00 AMRomantic evening & top-notch diningThis was our second time at Toast, and it was even better than the first time -- superb dishes, and an exceptionally attentive (but not intrusive) and knowledgeable waiter (an infrequent 'extra' for too many pittsburgh restaurants, unfortunately!).3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMNice neighborhood find!Cool find on a recent trip to Pittsburgh! Visiting a child in college and was very conveniently located to Pitt/CMU campuses. They provided a private room for 8 of us upstairs which was great to be able to hear conversations. Despite private room, service was excellent. Food was very good--not necessarily "memorably spectacular"--but solid for sure.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMThe diversity of differentThe diversity of different meats made this a real delight.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was spot on. TheThe food was spot on. The shrimp and grits were the best I've ever had. I have been to Toast before but took a group who hadn't been before. They wed not disappointed. Every courses was great. The service was helpful and attentive.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMToast is a small comfortableToast is a small comfortable place. It was about 75% full with talkative patrons but it was quieter that you might expect. I guess the acoustics are absorbent, with the many wood beams in the ceiling baffling some of the noise. The servers are attentive, helpful, and friendly. The menu is seasonal and has some items you wouldn't find at other places such as goat and rabbit. There's a nice but not overwhelming selection of wine. I would have preferred that the red wines be served at cellar temperature rather than dining room temperature, but then this is the way it's done at most places. It is winter now, so the room temperature was not excessively warm meaning that the red wines were not overly warm. I look forward to another visit.3/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
