I've been here a couple times, usually for an early dinner. This place is consistently very good; my most recent visit was excellent. Our waitress was perfect. Thanks to her knowledge of the menu I tried a very interesting small plate: tempura-fried onions and apples with a red bean miso dip/paste. I also recommend the cocktails.

Despite reservations, took 10-12 minutes to be seated, then another 10 min before any wait staff showed up. We ordered drinks and 20 min later, still nothing. Manager happened by to ask how things were going and we reported our 40+ min into our evening there and still nothing, so he checked on our drinks. He said something about the bar being backed up, which I HATE BECAUSE I REALLY DON'T WANT AN EXCUSE. Nonetheless, he was back quickly with our drinks, which he comped (that was classy, but then he pointed out the "time stamp" on bar order to claim it was only 10 min, which was insulting) but once the food arrived, both dishes were very tasty. I especially liked my pork shoulder and polenta.

We had white bean puree, fried garbanzo beans, and Halibut. All of it was very good! Liquor menu consisted of bottles that we never heard of. They do not use martini glasses but rather sherry glasses which puts a damper on the drink. Expensive wine list. Ambience is just fair. Our appetizer plates were not cleared before the entrees arrive which made for a difficult transition by the waiter. Overall it was a good experience and we would return.

A visiting friend and I came for brunch. We ordered the Chicken Pate, White Bean Dip, Biscuits and Gravy, a BLT, and 2 coffees. The first three items and the coffees were scrumptious. For serious, this might be one of the best sausage gravy I've tasted. However, our BLT never came. The portion of biscuits and gravy was more than enough for two people to share (we did split 2 appetizers tho). When the bill came, the BLT was still listed. We politely requested it be taken off, and they told us that it was "en route". Why would you give us a bill before all the food arrived? Anyway, we decided we didn't need it after all and requested they take it off and they obliged. Despite the mix up, it was a positive experience. Nice people.

I came here for lunch with a friend--we both felt the place had wonderful service. However, the lunch menu seemed a little simple; moreover, our food tasted kind of bland. And the coffee tasted really watered-down. I would give this place another chance sometime, but I can't say it's somewhere I would definitely recommend.

Met friends for an afternoon glass of wine. Toast selected for its patio hard to beat on a sunny Sunday afternoon. The ambiance perfect, the two appetizers yummy, and the waitstaff friendly but clueless. A rose selected by my friends, a Pelegrino & chardonnay for my wife & I. The latter arrived, not so the rose... 5 minutes later, still no rose, we inquired. Wasn't chilled, "out in a minute" the reply. After another five minutes, server called over & a second wine ordered, after confirming such was, indeed, already chilled. The appetizers: pate & toasted almonds. Yummy, but served without napkins, which were needed & had to be requested. A fun place on a sunny Sunday, albeit just a shade-of-service shy of being a great place.

We foursome always take each other out for our birthdays and TOAST was my choice. Having reserved a table (via Open Table) we we're given a deluxe 6 person booth by the window. Perfect spot by corner windows and roomy booth. My steak was superb, the drinks and always good (Brooklyn) and friends enjoyed the risotto. Three shared desserts were a hit, and for myself I had barolo china to (impossible to find on a menu!)

From the moment our party of 8 entered the restaurant, everything went perfectly. We were seated immediately and offered wonderful choice of cocktails by our waiter who seemed to always show up on time. Small plates were delivered almost upon ordering. Our party of 8 ordered 5 different entrees of which ALL were excellent. The service was excellent but low key with each course sufficiently spaced so that we never felt rushed or pressured in any way. Our meal was topped off by a visit from the chef who was humble and appreciative.

Food and drink are excellent and imaginative. Fried vegetable appetizer is a must. They are passionate about cocktails and wines. Great place to celebrate through food! Each entree is a gem of culinary delight. We had three different dishes, entirely and there was not even a garnish left on the plate! This is my fourth time to meet friends for dinner at Toast -- every time my invitees have been enthused and really enjoyed the experience. Ambiance is low key and fun, lighting is good, noise level provides just enough "buzz" to feel like you're in a popular spot (and you are!), yet can always talk comfortably at each table without "competition" from your neighbors. The food is consistently great, service is friendly and very good -- this last time it was outstanding. We were well taken care of, yet the wait staff was discreet enough never to "get in the way" of a great table conversation. I particularly noticed that they operated as a team and helped each other -- none of the stand-offish "not my table" attitude. All in all, A+

I can't remember when I've had as neglectful and poorly executed service as I had at Toast the other night. The length of time between every aspect of service--from delivering menus to taking orders to delivering the drinks or food after ordering, was exceptionally long for no apparent reason. The restaurant wasn't full and when I looked around for the waitress, she didn't seem to be busy or bustling around. When it was finally time for dessert (after 2+ hours), she spilled a carafe of water on one of our party, then offered a free dessert but took a really long time coming back to ask us for our dessert order so we didn't even take her up on the free offer--at that point we all had to get back home to our kids. Just terrible service.

Overall very good. Have been there several times. Only area needing improvement is service. Specifically.....even though we were there early when there were few other customers, our service was very slow. They took our order timely but we waited an unacceptable amount of time to be served our order. I also would comment that while the staff is delightful & energized, they spent a considerable amount of time enjoying one another at the expense of patrons. Nevertheless I will return.

Four of us went for dinner, this was our third time dining here. For some reason, this time was disappointing. Our appetizer was outstanding, the fried veggies. Everything else was a bit lackluster, good, but not outstanding as it had been. The salad was fine, but not as good as the quinoa one we had last time. Petrale sole, penne pasta and pork dish were all just okay, lacking in flavor, we salt and peppered to kick it up a bit. The mexican style soup was thin and watery , needed more base. We really love the people here and hope this visit was just an off night. We were very impressed the first few times.

this is a great spot on College Ave - the food is vibrant, which matches the decor and service - I really like that there were so many small bites to choose from, plus a soup and salads choices, plus 4 mains to choose from - there was no beef option for the main (pasta, chicken, fish & pork options), which was a little disappointing. But then I ordered the pork, and it it was a home run. It would be nice if they didnt charge $3 for 2 rolls of bread; but the food was generally outstanding - we had the pate, artichoke (amazing), fish and pork - I WILL be back

The ambiance and staff couldn't have been nicer, however the food was not up to par for the prices. The pork meatballs as a first course were excellent with a lovely rich sauce. The roasted filet of sole however was bland and although it was supposed to be roasted, it appeared poached, and draped over the side dishes. It was not appetizing, tasting bland. They did re-do it and it was at least edible however my partner had a dish he did not like either and said he would not return. I'd return for take-out for a double order of pork meatballs however.

Our first time for dinner and first time since they expanded the dining room. My husband, adult son and I went here for my birthday on a Tuesday evening. Bar scene and patio busy, but not crowded. The expanded dining room was pleasantly full at 7PM. Drinks were good, service was friendly, but a bit spotty. Server forgot a couple things, but other staff covered. As for food, we loved the flash-deep-fried chick peas. Olives were good, but not spectacular. Pate and mushroom starters were mediocre. Two liked the arugula/beet salad, one thought it was over-dressed. Entrees - creative, tasty but over-salted. Overall heavy handed on salt and dressing, a few creative and tasty dishes. I'd go back, but my well-traveled, foodie son said he would not.
