  • "OK, the pizza place across the street is "beaming".........crowded, noisy but good pizza. Want civilized? go across the street to enjoy a real creative Italian cuisine. Very very good food, reasonably priced and wine that's out of this world. Said enough? well we have been there many times, without the crowds, and came away each time saying..............we are coming back!"

  • "Awful food, and for a wine bar the selection was minimal. I asked for 6 different wines from the menu, and they were "out" of all of them."

  • "A Padre game had nearby Petco Park and many a closed street made us late, but the manager/owner had held our reservations, and the lot where parking was to be validated even let us in, though fans were being charged $25. We enjoyed an unusual French wine, savory small plates. When one of our plates lacked an ingredient, the manager quickly offered to subtract the charge. We made our play on time ... in spite of everything. Perhaps we should have lingered longer?!* Toast isn't toast. It's a croissant!"

  • "Had dinner for five with work colleagues. Easy to talk, very good food, large wine list. First bottle recommended by server didn't suit us, but the second was fine. Many vegetarian selections. "

  • "Went to TOAST for the first time this week. Had a range of dishes and starters and everyone was good. The sausage appetizer was delcious, the pork shoulder was tender and the chicken was fantastic. The ingredients were very fresh. The wine list was also nice and they offered both tastes and glasses for several selections which is a really nice way to try new wines out. Will definitely go back."

  • "The food was delicious (we ordered pumpkin lasagna and a pasta dish), the wine selection was great (lots to choose from with their auto-pour system inside), and our waitress Carrie was extremely friendly and conversational - definitely would recommend to future guests. It's right near the ballpark, so while it wasn't too busy, I'd assume you may want to reserve a seat in advance directly prior/following a Padres game."

  • "This is one of my go to spots in Downtown San Diego! The food is amazing, and they even home make all their pasta, sausage and sauces. The wine tasting part is also great! So many different ones to chose from - there is definitely something for everyone! My only minor complaint, is that the service is a little slow in my opinion, but you're enjoying the wine tasting options, you wouldn't even notice it. "

  • "We loved this little gem right on the fringe of the Gaslamp district. The bread is hot and homemade, the pizza fresh and delicious (we had it as an appetizer) and the dinners simple but delicious. The wine list is also extensive and had some great choices. We will definitely return."

  • "This place is really great! You have to go try the Supper Club on Thursdays. Off menu food paired with wine, does not disappoint! Highly recommend! Get there a little early for happy hour, 1/2 price appetizers and drinks!"

  • "Had a fantastic dinner at TOAST! Wine selection was truly extensive with great prices, and the food was out of this world! Charceuterie board was a delight to the palate. Lasagna was simply amazing! Great service is a fun restaurant. It's going to be a San Diego favorite for me."

  • "My boyfriend ordered off the Restaurant Week menu, and I ordered off the real menu. We were really intrigued by the pay-by-the-ounce wine options, which we ordered and was intriguing. But eventually we got bored of trying the different wine options, and eventually ran out of money we put on the card. In the midst of trying wine, we also ordered our food. It took about 45 minutes to get our main course, and even then only my boyfriend got his food. Mine didn't come for another 10 minutes. And my boyfriend's RW entree portion size was TINY. And then we made the mistake of ordering dessert. Again, another 40 minutes to get dessert. And again, my boyfriend's came out about 10 minutes before mine. I was tired by the end of the meal."

  • "We took full advantage of the half glass option on the wine list, trying a variety of delightful wines. Although I had planned on trying the intriguing seafood risotto with a kale almond pesto, I couldn't resist the restaurant week specials. The Gorgonzola pear appetizer was deliciously rich, although my husband preferred his kale, Parmesan and pear salad. The mains were straightforward: I had a red, white and green pizza--fresh arugula on a simple cheese pizza. My husband had the pasta option. Both desserts were just what we wanted: mint chocolate chip gelato for me and apple tart for him. We wish that we still lived in SD so we could take advantage of the chef's nights or just go there again. The only downside was the bar TV."

  • "I find myself recommending Toast over and over again whenever we're looking for a nice dinner and drinks out - and they never disappoint! The vibe is classy yet trendy yet intimate all at once. Food is always super delicious. Last time there I had the restaurant week menu of kale/pear salad, pizza and apple pie a la mode and it was all flavorful, fresh ingredients and great portions. And the wine tastings from the wine dispensers are so fun, especially when you want to add a little somethin' different to a dinner night out. I plan to keep coming back."

  • "We had a party of 8 and everyone's meal was excellent. Had several appetizers, all very good as well. The mushroom sauce on the chicken was superb and the 30oz Porterhouse was more than enough for two. Also loved the variety of wines, although we stuck with their Paso Robles cab and pinot noir. Our servers were all friendly and helpful. Can't wait to go back."

  • "The menu was very good for a pre-fixe menu on new years and the wine was enjoyable. Our last course was overcooked, but the rest of the menu and the excellent service saved it."

  • "there were nine in our group, and the service was slow... but since there were so many of us we were fine with this... if I was on a date that wasn't going so well or if I were in a hurry I would have been irritated. . . wine selection was ok to good. we found three bottles to enjoy. food was great...I loved the ambience...."

  • "We reserved a table at this restaurant for a Sunday night and there was only 1 other table of people there. Usually, that is not a good sign, however not the case for Toast. The plus side to being only one of two tables full of poeple is that you get very personalized service and our waiter didn't disappoint. He was very knowlegeable about the history of the restuarant and food as well as an acomplished sommelier. Everything we ordered tasted like it was prepared fresh and with quality ingredients. They have a wine preservation system so the by the glass menu is outstanding as well as affordable. I'm not sure why the place was empty but I would recommend this place to anyone and hope to go back some day!"

  • "Must try the "SALCICCIE E RADICCHIO AL FORNO" (Homemade, roasted Italian sausage) together with the PANE OLIO E ACETO (bread w/ oil and vinegar). Timing of antipasti and main course was not good ... we had just started to enjoy the antipasti when the entree was served."

  • "The wine list is impressive and not unreasonably priced. They have many by the glass as well. You can even shop for a bottle to take home. The food was not as impressive, there are about 100 other choices for dinner."

  • "it was a Padres night. appetizers and wine very good. entrees warm at best and many overcooked and all were late to arrive. serversaid there was a rush table. well, we were going to the game too and could have announced ourselves as a rush. Padres, Dodgers gear that we were wearing. for a restaurant right next to the ballpark and at the end of a season, how can you not handle a slightly less than capacity dinner crowd?"

  • "Service stood out at our lunch, Waiter Nick was extremely helpful about wines and we tasted about 10 using the handy dispensers and also bought 2 glasses and a bottle of Cannonau from Sardegna. Spicy sausage and radicchio, octopus salad, chicken with prosciutto and broccoli were deeply tasty, and salted perhaps a little too much, even though we love salt. We have been back several times and would return with friends to enjoy wine and the delicious foods on offer."

  • "Oasis for excellent food and great new wine 'finds' just a few blocks from the touristy Gas Lamp. Next to PetCo Field, a nice stop in coming or going to a game - skip the game and take enough time to enjoy the wine, delicious food, and knowledgable staff."

  • "I originally discovered Toast on a random stroll in San Diego's east village. I had lunch at the bar by myself--I was literally the only diner in the restaurant. But I had their signature octopus salad and a terrific glass of tempranillo. So, the next time I was in town, I took clients for dinner there--twice! We had very pleasant meals both times, though on the second night, the octopus salad was sold out, so I had to go without! One complaint was that several in our party the first night found a lot of the food too salty--especially the pork shoulder, which was otherwise melty-tender and fantastic. The roasted pear appetizer with gorgonzola is great--I will definitely have that again when I go back. The wine list is amazing."

  • "Went here with a group in from out of town. not looking for a crazy expensive night but something memorable. This place was great. Amazing appetizer specials on sunday and the entrees were great. All pasta is homemade and the bread and dipping sauces were amazing. WIll definitely return"

  • "Italian food was great and they charge retail plus corkage for wine which is pretty cool and very reasonable...versus the 3-4 times mark up! They also have an abundance of wine by the glass 400+ that they use special dispensing system. Good place just to relax and enjoy wine as well."
    Dined on 3/21/2013
  • "I was meeting a client there for lunch. We walked in at 12:30 with a reservation for 3 and were seated at the smallest table (a 2 top) in the place. I assumed that they had reservations coming in for a larger party but we were the only patrons the entire time. Our server was delightful and realy worked to make it special but the food was tasteless and uninspired. With so many wonderful restaurants in SD, I would pass this one by."
    Dined on 3/20/2013
  • "Reasonable wine prices as they have a carry out license with a small $7.00 corkage fee. Also very reasonable. So you are paying retail prices not restaurant pricing. Food was superb. High quality products and ample sizes."
