The food served at our table seemed to be leftovers buried in sauce. If you just want drinks, this would be the place to go. If you want to eat, almost anywhere else in Birmingham would be better."

  • "We had lunch at Toast as part of our Dream Cruise experience. This was our third visit to Toast for lunch. This time I had a salad, rather than an omelette. My salad was generous with an excellent, homemade balsamic vinaigrette and special croutons. The chicken added was superbly grilled and quite moist. My husband's vegetarian wrap was impeccable. What is most noticeable is the eclectic, unusual, artistic environment. Every place I looked, I saw an objet d'art that caught my attention. Thus an excellent ambience. Service was adequate. I also have to comment on the fact is everything is made from scratch from the Bloody Mary mix to the home fries to the cole slaw."

  • "The food is great, the server was very attentive and on the ball, and the decor is very charming and comfortable. There were a couple issues like very strange frantic music that did not fit the atmosphere, they had to refire my dish because they put the gravy for the chicken and waffles ( awesome btw) on the dish instead of on the side. I would have gladly taken as is rather than wait the additional 35 minutes for my food. All and all the food was just delicious and artfully crafted, the prices were reasonable and the staff were very nice and accommodating. I will go back and would recommend."

  • "One of my favorite things about Toast is that you can eat on one side with your kids and it is TOTALLY kid friendly, or you can eat on the quieter side with candles and sofas and it is a romantic restaurant. Both offer the same incredible menu. This time we had our two children and the servers were so nice to them. Toast never disappoints for dinner!!!!"

  • "We went to Toast for a nice dinner our before a concert and were thrilled with the experience. The food was fabulous and the waiter's recommendations were spot on. We did the mushroom and toast appetizer and it was delightful and I had the fish special for dinner while my fiance had the roasted chicken both were moth watering and full of flavor. The drinks were great and dessert was a sweet treat. We would certainly head back next time we are up that way!"

The coffee mug was filthy and I found out they are "known" for always having dirty coffee mugs. I won't eat here again. Seriously. George's Coney Island has much better omelets at about half the price."

The restaurant was not very full with patrons, unlike the Townsend patio across the street. Perhaps they do need to expand the dinner offerings. We enjoyed the Petoskey omelet and the Greek omelet . The home fries were amazing and the huge wheat toast slices were delicious . He had a good sense of humor and let us set the pace of the meal. The food was excellent. Very flavorful - though quite rich. Definitely recommend this place. Will be back. "

  • "If you want to experience Toast ...go during the week. The weekends are ridiculously crowded and the wait is on average 35-45 minutes. The food is excellent...the french toast and Bellinis are to die for. Loved having an early am meeting there. Only issue was ...I arrived and they didn't see my reservation. Quite embarrassing since I had my other party ask for it....in case they got there first. But we were seated quickly and all was well."

  • "Some options were outstanding. Breaded, fried artichokes were spectacular. Filet mignon of veggies. Beet app was fair. Little taste in beets, unfortunately. Short ribs were very tender. Chicken and waffles......another story. 3 pieces of chicken, one was not fully cooked. That's not good. Cheddar waffles sounded better than they tasted. Sausage and sage gravy was quite tasty. I would have loved some maple syrup, as well. Espresso pudding tasty but waaaaay too heavy. Mousse it up. I think diners would appreciate that. Maybe hazelnut espresso mousse. Also, restaurant was cold. I get it, it's winter, but when I am paying for dinner, I expect you to turn UP the heat. That's the price of doing business. I'd go back 4 lunch/ bfast, skip dinner."

They have some newer servers that aren't quite as familiar with the drink list, etc, as they probably should be...hopefully they will get the hang of it soon. The servers used to be so personable, and now only a small handful of them are left (and they did make it outstanding - perfect blend of making sure everything was spot on and giving you your space all at the same time). The menu is great. Great vegetarian options - far better than the typical vegetable pasta dish or fancy salad. I am talking mushroom roll in brick paper with ragout; stuffed butternut squash, etc. Wine list is good. Beer list is extensive. Great for any occasion and kid-friendly."

  • "We had dinner Friday 2/20. Our server Emma did not know the menu. She was annoyed that we had some food allergy questions and had an attitude. Our food was tasteless and greasy. We ate almost nothing. The music was blasting and the kids next to us were covering their ears. The manager was very nice and knew we had issues with the food yet never offered us a complimentary drink or anything. Toast is an awesome brunch restaurant only! Thank you"
