Diner Reviews
  • "The servers were not excited to see me even though I was one of only two parties for brunch at 12 on a summer Saturday. I thought the brunch menu rather limited and the service perfunctory. Wouldn't rush to return."

  • "Shepherds pie had way too much potatoes, not enough meat &veg.Turkey burger was lacking flavor.Pork chop was good,as was chicken pate.. We were looking forward to good food & was very disappointed, since we were recommended by family.."

  • "This neighborhood bar and restaurant has gourmet food found only in very expensive restaurants, but this restaurant is very moderately priced. We ate there twice and had many experiences with drinks in the bar. The food is gourmet, the service is excellent and the staff are welcoming and friendly. It's a small place and the bar is noisy but don't let that stop you from having an excellent meal at a reasonable price. Highly recommend the pork chops, scallops and chicken."

  • "Our group of 4 went to Tir na nOg Times Square before Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden. It's about a 6 minute walk up 8th Avenue that is so worth the effort. Most of the restaurants near MSG are chaotic before a game or concert, while at this place you can enjoy an unhurried dinner with great service in a relaxed atmosphere. The beer list is excellent and the tap beer somehow tastes better here than anywhere else. My brother and I split a bunch of the seafood appetizers - crab cake, calamari, and mussels - and they were all excellent. My wife had Shepherd's Pie, which is better here than anywhere else. I wish they'd add Smoked Salmon back to the menu! This is a great place to bring a large group, and handle kids very well."

  • "Stopped in on way to work and just had a very good steak sandwich. My timing was impeccable since they were showing the Belmont Stakes on their wide screen TVs while I was there. So a nice sandwich and a great race. Good combination and a lot of fun. Recommended"

  • "This is fun place. I love the traditional Irish decor and the Guinness!! even though the restaurant is spacious you got a warm cozy feeling. The burgers were good too."

  • "This has become my favorite place to come before a game or concert at Madison Square Garden. It's gigantic, so it doesn't get mobbed, and the service is stupendous, so the extra 5 minute stroll up 8th Avenue is well worth it. I ordered a mix of seafood dishes including clams, crabcakes and calamari and it was all stupendous. The Smithwicks on tap is out of this world. The service is always first-rate."

  • "I was there during March madness to pick up my daughter at the Port Authority bus terminal - few short blocks away. Lots of fun watching the 80's and 90's music videos on some tv's and The basketball game on the others. My daughter had a burger which she said was good and I had Quinoa with veggies in a curry sauce that was great. It is a huge place with many different seating areas - some semi-private large tables - very cool. Very loud but fun."

  • "We dined at Tir Na Nog with a group of 7 people prior to celebrating a bachelorette party. The food was absolutely delicious! Everyone enjoyed their meal. The staff was very pleasant, although we wished our server was a little more attentive to our group, particularly since the restaurant was not very busy."

  • "Enjoyed the experience except we ordered a bottle of wine. The server brought us the bottle. Did not show us the label. After we consumed the wine discovered it was not our choice of sauvignon blanc. Felt deceived!"

  • "Came here after getting my Bridal Gown from RK Bridal with my bridesmaids, wanted to treat them to brunch after torturing them for 2 hours. Decent lunch specials prices considering you're in Midtown Manhattan and it comes with one brunch beverage of your choice (add $20 to make it unlimited brunch cocktails). I had eggs Florentine (which weren't on the menu, but they had eggs benedict so they accommodated me), my brunch was awesome, but since ill ve back, I definitely need to try the banana french toast! Restaurant itself is beautiful and ornate."

  • "The food and atmosphere was fabulous! I had the cod with lobster and it was amazing. Others had the pork chops and chicken and raved about them as well. Staff is friendly and attentive. Very cute restaurant! Will definitely go back. Highly recommended!"

  • "I was hoping for something a little more "Irish". The food was fine but it was more typical bar fare (mozzarella sticks) than traditional Irish Pub fare."

  • "Had a solo early dinner (4:15) before the theatre. Kept it simple. The steak sandwich and a cup of tea. Simple but good. The restaurant was quiet at that early hour. Worth a visit"

  • "Went there after work with a few friends from work and what a nice surprise. The place has a very nice ambiance with different nooks and nice dark wooden décor. The food was very very good. We all had a different fish dish and they were all outstanding. Would definitely recommend this place. and it is just one block away from the Port Authority so a very convenient location."

  • "Went for a solo dinner. Working on Broadway and had time for a dinner. Had the pan roasted chicken with mushrooms, onions, string beans, and potatoes. Everything excellent and I plan to go back this coming Wednesday for lunch with 2 friends"

  • "tried this place before the game....only warmth was from the staff who were also shivering in this huge space .The few guests huddled in one area in the rear because the heating system wasn't working with 10 degrees outside ! Food OK ."

  • "We reserved a month in advance with a specific request. When we arrived, the hostess tried to push us into sitting in a booth in the bar area. We are a family with three Children 15, 11 & 9. We didn't want to have Thanksgiving dinner in the bar. I asked to be seated according to our reservation request. She looked around and told us to wait. The restaurant was not crowded. The area I requested had 4 empty tables that were for 5. While waiting to be seated, we had to check our own coats. Then our waitress was unfriendly, not helpful and almost seemed put out when asked for something. Service was not good. On open table, the price was lower for kids then when we had the bill my kids were charged the adult price and they wouldn't change it."

  • "Vibrant, loud and joyous bar that is the American understanding of an Irish bar. Unfortunately we are in our 60's and peaked in the 70"s. A bit loud for us. Food was good, service was good and waitress was excellent. Go for the bar scene."

  • "Have enjoyed the bar and appy's after work numerous times, but made a special trip prior to attending a Broadway show with friends. The salmon special was outstanding and everyone enjoyed the atmosphere the food and the beers! A great spot that welcomes you in and a cozy place to relax."

  • "We were there early (5pm) but no happy hour. Just thought with the big bar space there would be a few drink specials. Also I've been to Irish restaurants before and they offered Irish soda bread before the meal. This restaurant didn't offer any bread with our meal."

  • "Excellent, friendly service - fast and polite. Food was good with a nice selection of appetizers and entrees. Very convenient location to Penn station, the Port Authority bus terminal and the Broadway theater district."

  • "I'd never been to Tir Na Nog before, but my fiancee had been and greatly enjoyed the atmosphere and the experience. The offerings are very good, definitely a mix of modern cuisine and traditional fare. The drink menu is solid as well, with many selections both foreign and domestic. I had the shrimp risotto and my fiancee had the salmon, and both were very tasty. Service was quick and efficient, and we were never lacking for a refill or a check on our dining experience. Definitely one of the best restaurants I'd been to in a long time."

  • "I had a group of 10 for my birthday dinner and it was fabulous. Exactly what I wanted. The food is wonderful and reasonably priced. Everyone had a great time. The best part was easily the service. Our server, Aoife, was absolutely wonderful! Could not have asked for better! She was professional and patient but still so friendly and fun!"

  • "A great place to hide away from the theater crowd. The food is great, the staff is friendly and the décor transports you straight to Ireland.. it’s like a mini vacation in Midtown."

  • "A group of 4, all of American Irish background had a great meal at the W 39th st location. Tish was our waitress and she was fun and lovely and we had excellent service and awesome food. I have eaten at the 5 Penn Plaza restaurant, but I thought this location was nicer and quieter for a meal and it was a great dining nite out at this Irish restaurant. The ambience was lovely and we will definitely be back again soon!! THX!"

  • "I recently accompanied my husband to New York for a business meeting and needed to find a place to meet a colleague for lunch and to serve as a home base before and after the meeting. We chose Tir Na Nog primarily because of its location and could not have been happier with our choice. Our server made us feel welcome to stay as long as we liked, providing service when we needed it but never making us feel compelled to order or rush through our meal. We ordered traditional Irish fare for lunch. My fish and chips was good but not outstanding. My husband said that the shepherd 's pie was delicious. Overall, a good place to meet for lunch or a drink. We will definitely return."

  • "We went early so it was pretty quiet, not as big a crowd as they can potentially hold. Food was good pub food. Waiter was great. Very nice place and would definitely go back."

  • "The food and service was good. But the noise level was incredibly loud - of course this was Friday night in an Irish pub, and many locals were obviously celebrating the end of the week."

  • "It was St. Patrick's Day and there was live music - great but way too loud. The staff did everything they could to move us to a quieter seat. Staff here is always friendly and accommodating. Menu was limited today for the special occasion - food was great as usual. Noise level was the only complaint"

  • "Overall it was a good experience, but it was lame that they wouldn't let us order from the breakfast menu 7 min late. Also, they did not have tap water available on St. Patty's weekend, you had to buy bottled water."

  • "We spent Christmas in NYC travelling from the uk, and wanted something as close to the traditional turkey we could find. This menu stuck out, although we were initially apprehensive about booking an Irish bar-past experiences have not been great-and we're Irish!! This place was fantastic however. The decor is brilliant-modern yet traditional style, really open, and really clean. Staff are pleasant and helpful. Our only criticism, and it is a small one, is that the food (which there was loads of!) could have been slightly warmer. This place is a great little find-really pleased we chose here to spend Christmas Day!"

  • "Loved Tir Na Nog at times square. Food and service was great. Could have sat in the resturant for hours without being bothered. Tnn had a great ambiance and the bar scene was energetic but not over the top. Would definatley recommend for a evening with the wife or grabbing a pint with the lads after work."
