Diner Reviews
  • "I've visited Tir na nOg many times over the years and it never disappoints. The food is very good (Shepperd's Pie is tops and the Roasted Chicken is very good) and the service is friendly and very attentive. The location, across from Penn Station and MSG, make it an ideal spot to connect with friends after work, before a commute, before and after a game. Good selection of Beer's and the bar is always vibrant but not too loud. The atmosphere is still intimate and you can have a conversation without yelling. Definitely not pretentious as many of the bars in the area are becoming, it just is and...that's a good thing. Cheers!"

  • "Found Tir na nOg online, atmosphere was excellent and very close to MSG. Great for before the "big game". Service was pleasant, the menu flexible for my vegetarian mate. Price was very reasonable."

  • "made a reservation on open table an hour before. Went there before the rangers game. the place was packed! I got a Guinness immediately. they got us seated & served promptly. Had the sheperds pie and my wife had the scallops. very good. excellent service, good food! Located across the street from MSG. I will make it my destination before any event at MSG!"

  • "There aren't a lot of good places around MSG. I wouldn't say that Tir na is great, but it's certainly better than some of the other dives. They're able to accommodate large parties and can speed up the service if you're trying to get out before the game/concert. It's pretty standard pub food, but the friendly atmosphere sets it above the other similar places in the area."

  • "I was disappointed. Clearly quiet for a Saturday night. Had to move our table beaches a band started setting up right next to us. The food was typical bar fare but tried too hard with items like tuna tartare. This was served with Pringles!"

  • "The food was perfect and the prices, though typical of NYC, were worth every penny-we both ordered seafood. The service was a little odd. When we didn't order drinks the waitress disappeared and never came back until we flagged her down to order our meals. We were chatting away, so perhaps she didn't want to interrupt, but it was odd. Had we not been busy chatting away we would probably have been annoyed at being ignored. Once we ordered, the service was excellent. I would definitely go again because the service early on had no impact on our enjoyment of the meal. We had a reservation and were seated right away. I would definitely recommend reservations for busy nights like weekends or when there are events at Madison Square Gardens."

  • "We had a great lunch. We met a colleague for lunch and we all had an enjoyable meal. Good lunch specials and very good traditional pub fare. We will return."

  • "Saw Justin Timberlake at Maddison Square Gardens across the road and this pub was the highlight of the evening. Real find plenty of fun. Had a great night and food and beverage cheaper than MSG."

  • "We ate here last year and service was outstanding and so was the food. This year the service was not very good. There were not many people in the very back, just us for almost 1/2 an hour, but we both felt that we were being pushed into leaving. Hey - it was 5:45. We were never asked if we wanted coffee or dessert and definitely felt rushed. The staff was just standing around when we left. The food was very good, but very disappointed in service. My friend loves the place and we will probably be back next year for her birthday, but not at 5:45, maybe earlier like the first year when it was GREAT!"

  • "This Irish Bar has become my favorite NYC restaurant after 3 wonderful visit. Two of the visits were with my young grandsons and the waitresses both times showed such patience with them. Between my co-diners and the three visits, I think we have tried all the menu items with a big thumbs up. The Shepherds pie was a hit. The lemon tart is so good,I wanted to take an extra slice home. From the hostess to the bus boy, the wait staff were friendly, respectful and good at their job. The atmosphere, especially when were there on a Friday evening, can be noisy, but I felt that only added to the festive air.If you prefer a more subdued eating environment, take a pass on this restaurant. But you will miss out on some good food and friendly service."

  • "The food was excellent! Enjoyed the Lamb special. Waitress was abit unfriendly at first but warmed up a BIT later on. Then on to the Westminster Dog Show!"

  • "It's a more or less traditional Irish Pub, with good beers, some upscale (and delicious) menu items, and a friendly, welcoming (if busy and a bit loud) atmosphere. I'll definitely go back when in the neighborhood."

  • "We were loooking for a restaurant near Madison Square Garden to have dinner before the Rangers Game. I'm so glad we chose this place - the food was excellent (we both had the Shepherd's Pie, so I can only vouch for that - but the entrees being served to the tables near us looked very tasty also). The apple tart we had for dessert was also quite good. The service was friendly and efficient and the atmosphere was festive - what you would expect from a group of Rangers fans getting ready to go cheer our team on to victory !!"

  • "Recommend for a quick burger and beer before Rangers hockey game. Host was very assertive and we could tell he was not going to tolerate bar guests taking over seating restraurant area. Our waitress was great, and the wait staff was very attentive"

  • "The food is better than what you may expect from an Irish Pub even in NY, and the drinks and service are imported right from Ireland"

  • "I met my mother, sisters and niece for dinner here. There was a Knicks game in the garden, so we knew it would be noisy and crowded, so that was not a surprise. I had originally made the reservation for 4, but we were 5 and they accommodated us very quickly with no problems, even in a very full restaurant. The service was unobtrusive but very efficient and the food was delicious! One of the best burgers I have had in NYC. It was a little difficult to hear everything, but once the it started clearing out before the start of the game, it was a little quieter. Not a complaint about the noise, just an observation. I would go back."

  • "We had a total of 17 in our group, 8 adults and 9 kids so we made a reservation in advance. They made us feel welcome from the start with a phone call to ask if we were celebrating a special occassion or outing. Tony greeted us at the door when we arrived and joked around the kids and checked in with us throughout our meal. We all loved the warm Irish pub feeling of this place. The food was excellent too -plenty of delicious choices for both the adults and kids. This place had everything we wanted... it was warm, family friendly, fun and had excellent food and service."

  • "Our group of 9 attended a basketball game at Madison Square Garden this December on a Saturday night. We had a reservation- which I highly suggest- and got seated immediately. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. Top marks for her. The food was pretty good, too. I can only comment on the fish and chips, and that was average. I've had better, actually. But that did not dim our view of this wonderful Irish bar. Just go with the burgers. They looked fabulous."

  • "Tir Na Nog is an excellent Irish restaurant in the heart of NYC. It is situated right across the street from Madison Square Garden. They had a lively bar scene and warm atmosphere. While dining there, I had their Butternut Squash soup which was simply delicious with their Irish Soda Bread, a great meal on a very chilly day. My Mom had their Irish Fish & Chips with their homemade Irish Tartar sauce and my son had a burger & fries, and they thoroughly enjoyed their meals too. I highly recommend Tir Na Nog Irish Bar & Grill!"

  • "This is a great spot if you are looking for a spot very close to Madison Square Garden. Didn't have the typical Irish Pub Menu though. We were looking forward to a great Ruben or Corned Beef on Rye but the menu was limited. Great interior --Irish beer on tap delicious."

  • "Always love the food and ambiance. Wish we lived closer. Only gave 3 stars for the service becasue, a) I asked for Karen (waitress) and hostess gave us someone else without letting us know, and b) it took 3 tries to get my after dinner coffee drink right."

  • "I love Tir na nOg. I have been coming here for over ten years with friends, family, business people, and always before an event at the Garden. Say hello to "Mr. Ireland", Tony, the maitre d' and Bernie behind the bar. You will get an authentic Guinness pour here. The Irish dishes are very good, but there are many American dishes. It's not pub food. It's much better. Try the fish. Very friendly, efficient wait staff."

  • "Considering there are not many good restaurants around The Garden, this one received ok reviews and looked interesting so I tried it out with a couple people, the shepard's pie was good but typical, the menu was pretty basic of Irish dining, overall, good experience, I wouldn't go out of my way to go there, but if I'm in the area I would go."
