Diner Reviews
  • "very much enjoyed this new local spot and will definitely be going back"

  • "We ate on the DineLA option for dinner on a Saturday night, and all the dishes were outstanding. We also ordered oysters. Delicious and a wonderful variety with the Chef's choice. The service was personable, helpful, even fun. Extremely accommodating to food allergies and forthcoming when there was a slight delay with one of our parties' food order. Decor outstanding; seating is comfortable. My only complaint is that the restaurant was full and extremely loud. Was hoping for good dinner conversation with the great food, but that was nearly impossible with the bass of the music and the loud noise all around us. Too bad. We'll try again at lunch, or maybe sitting near the open windows? Great addition to our neighborhood."

  • "My wife and I enjoyed the dine La prefix and added drink flight and oysters. Amazing food and drinks, bring your wallet. High recommendation."

  • "Portions too small and the place is LOUD, table of four we could not carry on a conversation."

  • "We went with friends from the westside who suggested we try it. After I made reservations, I read reviews (I don't often do that). Nearly everyone said the food was good, many thought the service was horrid. I was concerned that we'd face terrible service - something I abhor. Much to our delight, the service was as outstandingly wonderful as the food. Everyone was lovely; we were met with smiles, a friendly greeting and seated promptly. Brianna (and Kevin) were exceptional. The food was sensational - we had lots of oysters and 6 small plates, each better then the last. We will certainly go back very soon as we cannot wait to have more of the uni toast, the fried octopus and of course, the oysters."

  • "Had a 6pm reservation. arrived at 6, ordered at 6:05. at 6:30 we were informed our appetizer had been served to the wrong table. At that point we decided to leave."

  • "Our server was friendly and helpful. It was extra amusing when she said, "our portions are small making it good for sharing". My party of five was left a little unsatisfied by the lack of service and long wait time. I can forgive the long wait for the food especially on a Friday evening, but extra wait time for the drinks was a little frustrating. Our party ordered seven to eight items from the menu and since the portion were so delicate our hungry party wiped the dishes clean. Selected dished were absolutely delectable. We wanted some additional bread to compliment our lobster terrain and scallop sauce, but even the wait for the bread was painstaking long. At one point, we had to ask where our server went."

  • "This simple restaurant has a few nice drinks, a few nice wines and a great menu. Lots of seafood in sharing sizes and some great beef for entres. We love the Oyster Bar and our waitress was really great. My only complaint; they had a problem in the Kitchen and had to recook our food, but they comped us an appetizer (UNI TOAST) while we waited."

  • "Experience was terrible. Before we sat down the hostess told us our time limit was 2 hours. I made this reservation weeks ago, I was not a walk-in. When we finished dinner it took 15 min for our server to return with dessert menus. We ordered a dessert & coffees. They came back 10 min later to tell us the coffee was brewing. Then, still coffee-less, the hostess told us to leave our table and sit somewhere else. We were shocked. The service was so bad (just like my first visit) so it wasn't our fault that we were over the stupid "time limit." Then the absolutely obnoxious manager, Emily, came over, tried to make us move and laughed at us. This is a new restaurant. They need customers. We will never return after that deplorable treatment."

  • "Possibly bad luck with ordering, but it seemed every dish we ordered had a prominent vinegar taste. Raw oysters had vinaigrette option reasonable, trout rillette had vinegar on the frisée, Brussels had vinegar, and seared bass too? Would return for oysters and to try more cocktails and dishes, hopefully less vinegar this time."

  • "Creative menu -- seafood items are fresh and delectable. Great selection of top shelf liquor including Japanese whiskeys... cocktails are delicious and fresh. Service is great."

  • "Drove all the way from Los Angeles for the oysters... And the ran out as soon as we got there. A real disappointment . Our server Ian was very nice for the 5 minutes we were there. The hostess was not. She acted like we were bothering her or we should not have been there. I'm sure this place is a great oyster bar when they actually have oysters ."

  • "What a find! We usually never spend Saturday nights in the Valley - too much mediocrity. We are pretty serious foodies. However this Saturday we couldn't make It over the hill and decided to try this restaurant as it was recommended by a client. Beautiful hip atmosphere and GREAT menu. Fresh inventive veggies and great wine and beer selection. We didn't get the oysters as my husband had had too many this week already . We wil be back."

  • "This was a fun restaurant. The ambiance is obvious upon entering. The wait staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The bar seems very out there in that they don't carry old standard brands, such as Dewars White Label or J&B scotch. But, all in all, we will go back. Food was very good and everyone in our party had a good time."

  • "Tipple & Brine has excellent food!!! The oysters are fresh & delicious. The lamb shank is tasty, cooked to perfection. Great wine pairings too. I absolutely recommend this place to anyone who loves small plate dining."

  • "The drinks (bar) were very good. Unfortunately, this is where it stops. The food was good but one of the dishes, the Lamb Shank, came out cold and had to be sent back. Everyone else was eating their items and by the time we were almost done the Lamb Shank came back out. The service was HORRIBLE! Our waitress Alyssa was there in the beginning to take drink orders and our food order. Once our food order went in we didn't see her again except for waiting and helping other people. The runners delivered our food. We asked for the manager and she never showed until I went up to her and explained our situation. We sat for ove a half hour waiting to give out desert order. They need better training for their staff if they want to mKe it."

  • "The space is great, the staff is great, the vibe is great. I'd recommend for drinks but not a hearty meal. Really small servings.. Wish there were more vegetarian/non-meat options as well."

  • "Very good, but not great. "Oyster Monday" was a great deal with $1 oysters. The sea bass entree was absolutely stellar. Scallop entree was just okay. Starters were also uneven: Uni toast was great, kale salad excellent, brussells sprouts were waaaaay over-seasoned and over-sauced. Cocktails were very tasty, but the pours were TINY, especially for $12. Beautiful interior with reclaimed wood (or at least it had the reclaimed look) and tons of Edison bulbs. Great server, was very knowledgable about the menu and made good suggestions. A good every once in a while place when you're craving oysters, but wasn't off-the-charts good to require a quick return trip."

  • "On a Wednesday night at 5:30pm, I met a friend and we had a very nice time. We enjoyed sitting at the bar and we made friends with the bartenders and the master oyster shucker, David. We really enjoyed the Trout Rillette. It was served with slices of very dry toast that was rough and too crunchy. We asked for a fresher batch of toast and were given sliced bread. I think that the chef could have grilled off the bread nicely instead. The roasted brussels sprouts in miso dressing was a winner. "

  • "We had our first Entrees on Saturday night. We had been at the bar last week, and had a good time. Decided to return for dinner. We had the Flat Iron Steak (amazing, cooked perfectly Medium Rare) and the Roasted Chicken, that looks like a salad, but is really not. Both were amazing. Much more than we had expected. The drinks are excellent mixologist quality beverages. Not inexpensive, but worth it. After 8, the semi-secret upstairs hideaway opens. You get in by going around to the alley behind the restaurant, and go up a long wooden staircase toward a blue light. Very cute. Small. Even a greater selection of super drinks. Very fairly priced at an average of $11 for top of the line liquor. Upstairs was a little too hipster."

  • "I had a lamb shank that was simply outstanding. My appetizer -- clams with grits, I think -- was fabulous. I was also dining with a friend that had some food allergies and the wait staff/kitchen were very accommodating. I will definitely be making a return visit the next time I am in town."

  • "Friendly staff and a great aesthetic. I have been here twice. Food has been very good both times. A nice addition to thr neighborhood however on both oceasions my friends commented on the loud pounding music. Perhaps the audio is shared with bar down the street? This will be a factor when considering another return. "

  • "Had a great experience at Tipple and Brine. Oysters were yummy and drinks perfectly boozy! We sat at the bar and Moses took care of us - great Bartender! The food was fantastic - we had the Brussels Sprouts, some sort of mushroom, ricotta, pea puree and mint dish (so fresh!) and the scallops. Not one thing we ordered disappointed and we saw other items coming out from the kitchen from other tables that looked equally interesting and worth trying. "

  • "We just went to see the movie, "Chef", which no doubt made us hungry and eager for dinner. We arrived at Tipple & Brine minutes later and were greeted warmly and seated. The staff was very knowledgeable and prompt... but the food was even better. Each selection was a culinary and visual piece of art. Our party of four started with the Butternut Squash soup, Kale and Cauliflower - sharing is the best way to dine here. The starters were amazing. My son had the halibut fin (?), two of us ordered the scallops (with parsnips, oyster mushrooms, arugula... yum!), and my husband ordered the flat iron steak. Everything was amazing, loaded with flavor, and cooked to perfection. Meal was $175, and worth it. We will be returning!"
