Diner Reviews
  • "What a unique menu. The tapas choices were awesome. I was a big fan!"

  • "This was our second trip to Tinto. First time everything was fabulous, had the chef's tasting menu with wine pairings. So good we thought we'd try it again the following year. While the food was every bit as good, we were left feeling a bit cold with our waiter. I feel if you're spending that much money for a whole meal experience, you should be treated well. Our waiter walked by our table several times and never bothered to ask if we wanted refills of our wine even though our glasses were empty. He gave us an overall impression that we weren't worth his time. While the food was absolutely delicious we will probably choose somewhere else next time."

  • "Everything about dinner was great. Fun atmosphere next to kitchen upstairs. Well-timed, knowledgeable, fantastic service. Plates were great, especially the duck confit & short rib sandwich were two really notable ones you have to try. Overall, you can't go wrong."

  • "The menu choices are endless and we hven't been disappointed yet. The great service is a bonus."

  • "My wife and I travel from 90 minutes away with Tinto as our only "must visit" spot in Philly. Tasting and pairing aren't exactly cost effective but worth it."

  • "Everything was wonderful! The menu was creative, the food was spectacular, service was outstanding, decor was modern and elegant...can't say enough good things!"

  • "the service and the food was extremely enjoyable. very pleasant and helpful wait staff."

  • "Everything we ordered was well presented and delicious. The only negative was the cheese plate. Three very small portions - good cheese but too small especially for the price. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and helpful and the staff were very conscientious."

  • "If your intent is to hold a conversation during dinner it will be very difficult if you are sitting on the side by the bar --I was holding a business dinner and it was almost impossible to hear what the other people were saying. However, the food was fantastic and I would like to host other business dinners at Tinto, but will not do to the noise level and cramped quarters."

  • "The food and service were excellent. Although the ambiance was very welcoming, the seats were a bit low for the table downstairs. I've had dinner and drinks upstairs. The upstairs area by the bar has a bit more energy...so this may not be great for talking; however it is great for a small gathering. Foodie friends of mine are in love with the place because of the creative and artistically presented tapas."

  • "I eat out 4x a week. This was just flat out bad. Server forgot to ring in apps, never refilled drinks except 1x which took 15mins. The food that did come out was good minus my main course that I was ready to cancel it took so long but if I couldn't even out find our waiter to do that. When it finally come out long after my dates food was done it was ice cold. He was nice enough to ask instead of taking it off check why don't I box it up. I declined and ate somewhere else after. I wrote the manager on their website with no call or response. Good food but id rather not have to fight for it."

  • "We've become fans of Garces restaurants & his food. This is the fourth one we've tried. Restaurant is small but we didnt feel cramped. We ordered the $75 tasting menu w $45 wine pairing. Portions of early courses were small & I worried. However, the food is rich and satisfying & the wine shouldnt be forgotten as part of the equation. Duck, Sea Bass, Prawns, Iberico Wagyu all delicious. We felt we got good value for our experience"

  • "The service was great. Most of our dishes were amazing. I didn't like the green beans dish because there was too much vinegar and other flavors that I never actually detected the flavor of green bean which I like. All the dishes were extremely elaborate...for better or for worse. Drinks were great. Easy menu for gluten free people."

  • "The food was excellent. Every bite was a burst of tastes from the pork to the duck and cheese and definitely the mushrooms. It was a romantic dinner and the staff let us stay long after everyone else had left."

  • "The food and wine list here are excellent. The tables, however, are very cramped and we felt like packed sardines. The noise levels were really bad too."

  • "My wife and I ate here on Friday night; it was great. I'm a social worker and her a teacher, so a night out at a place like Tinto is a luxury. I was concerned that we might feel out of place, but that wasn't true. The vibe there is just casual enough and we were very comfortable. The staff were accommodating and down-to-earth. Our waiter, Michael, was knowledgeable and attentive; he helped us make some great menu choices. The wine list seemed well rounded though lost on us as we aren't really well versed in wine, but we ended up with a bottle of Tempranillo that we thought pretty tasty. I've been to another Garces place, Village Whiskey and really liked it. Next date night hopefully we will try Amada."

  • "The food was outstanding. There was not a dish I did not think was great. You should be on the exotic side or daring to enjoy the experience. I had the octopus, the duck confit *****, prawns and shared other plates. That being said my daughter, who recommended the site, is not that daring and really like it. Service was great, very helpful and attentive but not over the top. Dining on a Wednesday was a good idea, not the crazy busy weekends. It is not cheap by a long way, but worth it."

  • "My younger son is a manager of an extremely popular Philly restaurant. He wanted to go to Tinto for his birthday with his family. The restaurant layout was so cramped and narrow. You could hardly hear the server describing the dishes because of the noise level. The 4 of us learned that Tinto does not have small plates but a "tasting" selection. For a little less than main course prices you got to taste a smear of 3 cheeses, tissue paper thin meats, bland heirloom tomatoes, a small portion of duck and smaller paella. The crowning jewel was when they forgot the candle on my son's dessert and later brought a candle stuck to an empty plate. If you want to spend a lot of money and be hungry after doing so then Tinto is for you. Never again!"

  • "Tinto is always a highlight of a visit to Philadelphia. The flavors are complex; presentation is beautiful; and the food is always delicious. The chef's tasting menu provides a great sampling, and the staff is friendly, well informed,Casey and professional. Highly recommended."

  • "We had a lovely dinner at Tinto. Most of the food was great, only a few courses missed the mark. Are only complaint was the time between the courses. This is Tapas, so it is all small "bites" or courses. We were sharing many of the courses, so the "bites" were even smaller. The wait from the first course to the second was so long that we almost wanted to go home! If you eat something and then wait too long, you no longer have an appetite."

  • "Food was great. Great authentic wine list. A bit pricey for tapas but food was very good. Waiter recommended the octopus which was very good. Also ordered the Wagu steak entree but the portion was very small for the price. Nonetheless, it was cooked to perfection and tasted great."

  • "Our first at expereience at Tinto was wonderful. Always trying new places when we travel to Philadelphia can be an adventure but this one is truly a spot we will return to. Great staff upon arriving and the server we had was very helpful with the menu and suggestions for our meal. The wine list contains very good high-end wines that are a perfect match for the food. We ordered ala carte rather than the tasting menu which can sometimes eliminate the hidden gems. Each dish was prepared and presented in a way that you know the chef takes pride in what is served. The ham-wrapped figs, pork belly sandwiches and Bomba rice are a must. The lamb was cooked exactly as ordered and needs to be tried. Excellent spot."

  • "HAd a great time. Originally had party of 6 and had tyo change to 5. Restaurant was very accomodating. Food was plentiful. Maybe a little too much but we were able to take it home."

  • "We ordered the chef's tasting menu. There are two pricing levels. We ordered the higher. Food that arrived was all very one note. With the main taste of everything being overly oily and charred. Perhaps if we had ordered ourselves there would have been more diversity of flavor a, but as the tasting me u is supposed to be creative and luxurious, I seriously doubt it. There are several other better tapas restaurants in Philadelphia. Skip this one. We also ordered the wine pairing option. If there was a connection between the wines served and the dishes beyond red with meat/white with cheese we couldn't find it. Very disappointing meal."

  • "We ordered the high level tasting menu with the excellent wine pairing. The dishes were outstanding. Yes, it was on the noisy side. The food was so good. The best duck ever--served on a toast with a delicious cherry. The scallop was superb. And the jamón iberico was first rate. I recommend this highly!!"

  • "Saw the great reviews and took my wife there for a date. I am a foodie, mind you. The quality of the food was below my expectation for an Irin Chef Garcês owned restaurant. While the service was excellent, the food -for its quality- should have been worth a third of what it cost us. We had the "high end" Chef's tasting special. Several courses were served, and the only item really worth talking about was the grilled onions that came with the sliced sirloin! I like Garcês' style of cooking on TV so I intend to try a couple more of his restaurants in Philly, but no more Tinto for me."

  • "We have only been to Tinto twice, as we save it for special occasions, but both times we have been very pleased with their efforts. Instead of large courses, Tinto provides many smaller courses, and each one is tastefully (pun intended) and artfully prepared. Service was exceptional, with each course coming out just as we were finishing the previous one, and where we were seated on the lower level was quite quiet, a nice change from many other noisier places. Not inexpensive, but certainly a good value."

  • "This was a fun place to spend time and enjoy food with old friends. The location where we were seated was relatively quiet, so we could talk and eat and truly relax. The food was delicious. Service was excellent. Small plates, but plenty to share. The figs were wonderful -- very rich, but they went perfectly with the wine the server recommended. Too bad we didn't save room for dessert. The dessert list was tempting."

  • "Excellent overal service with amazing food. One word: Toppas! Server was extremely courteous and knowledgable. The atmosphere was more of a romantic setting. Groups can go, but not at the particular area where we were sitting. I suggest, not mixing the larger group tables with the couple tables, a bit too distracting to focus on the date. But excellent altogether and will recommend to couples that are looking for food foreplay as a prelude to what's to come later that evening. :)"

  • "Our chef's tasting menu included items tailored to me as I do not eat meat. Appreciated that extra effort. Fabulous food. Tasting menu is a lot of food for groups with small to moderate appetites."

  • "The deluxe tasting menu was absolutely delicious. They did a great job of accommodating my husband's dislike of seafood and gave him fantastic alternate dishes."
    Dined on 7/2/2014
  • "Worst dining experience ever. Waited over 1 hour for table & we had reservation! Staff blamed on patron's. Not likely. More likely inexperienced staff. Half of table ordered chef's tasting; I did not due to food allergies. Waiter forgot about me & I had to track him down to take my order and through out dinner to find out where the food was. The tasting individuals received 3-4 items and I still had not received my starter salad. When the salad finally arrived it was too salty. The rest of the meal was lousy: scrawny/limp prawns, over seasoned steak, teeny-tiny fruit platter. I was starving and went home and ate dinner. Over priced. Bad service. Terrible food. Awful Awful Awful. Jose you should be ashamed of this place!"

  • "I was so excited to try Tinto after years of procrastinating and after so many amazing meals at Amada and the Trading Post. There wasn't anything that stood out as awful, but nothing stood out as amazing either. It was a solidly good meal, but compared to what I've come to expect from other Garces restaurants, it fell a bit flat. The food was good, but the timing a bit bizarre (everything at once and then 20 minutes later the last scalding hot plate). The service was prompt, but the server was a bit rude to other wait staff (in earshot of customers). The ambiance was nice, but it was frigid cold. My recommendation-- check out Amada instead."

  • "One confusing point: the brochettes are skewers and the canapes are like bruschettas. But our server was kind enough to explain that before we ordered. Before our orders arrived, we were provided with a complementary appetizer. I wish I could remember what it was because it was oh so delicious, but it was basically small cheese bread poufs. They were fresh out of the oven and the warm and soft cheese bread just melted in your mouth. The kobe beef canapes were oh so tender and delicious. The duck canapes were cooked perfectly. We also ordered the green beans, which was good, but nothing too special. I will definitely be returning to try the rest of the menu!"

  • "After having been to Amada and Garces Trading Company, I was looking forward to trying Tinto and it didn't disappoint. All of the food was really strong and was a little refreshing that it didn't just repeat all of the usual Spanish/Basque tapas choices. I would return."

  • "From start to finish- excellent. Choosing the dishes was a challenge as everything sounded so appealing. We really couldn't make a bad choice."
    Dined on 6/26/2014
  • "Food quality was good, but portions were small . It didn't matter that much because I was out with my best friends. We were sat in the back near the bathroom - that stunk, and the bussing bucket kept slamming against he wall behind us . The service was great though, except the waitress forgot my drink at the end."

  • "We had a wonderful dining experience at Tinto. The tuna tar tar was out of this world and our server actually presented a list if what was in it so we could try to identify the amazingness...no such luck the secret stays in the sauce. Overall best meal so far in the city, a sure thing! Don't leave without trying the short ribs...or don't go at all!"
