Diner Reviews
  • "We ordered the high level tasting menu with the excellent wine pairing. The dishes were outstanding. Yes, it was on the noisy side. The food was so good. The best duck ever--served on a toast with a delicious cherry. The scallop was superb. And the jamón iberico was first rate. I recommend this highly!!"

  • "Saw the great reviews and took my wife there for a date. I am a foodie, mind you. The quality of the food was below my expectation for an Irin Chef Garcês owned restaurant. While the service was excellent, the food -for its quality- should have been worth a third of what it cost us. We had the "high end" Chef's tasting special. Several courses were served, and the only item really worth talking about was the grilled onions that came with the sliced sirloin! I like Garcês' style of cooking on TV so I intend to try a couple more of his restaurants in Philly, but no more Tinto for me."

  • "I cannot say enough good things about Tinto. The service and the food are excellent every time I go."

  • "We have only been to Tinto twice, as we save it for special occasions, but both times we have been very pleased with their efforts. Instead of large courses, Tinto provides many smaller courses, and each one is tastefully (pun intended) and artfully prepared. Service was exceptional, with each course coming out just as we were finishing the previous one, and where we were seated on the lower level was quite quiet, a nice change from many other noisier places. Not inexpensive, but certainly a good value."

  • "This was a fun place to spend time and enjoy food with old friends. The location where we were seated was relatively quiet, so we could talk and eat and truly relax. The food was delicious. Service was excellent. Small plates, but plenty to share. The figs were wonderful -- very rich, but they went perfectly with the wine the server recommended. Too bad we didn't save room for dessert. The dessert list was tempting."

  • "Excellent overal service with amazing food. One word: Toppas! Server was extremely courteous and knowledgable. The atmosphere was more of a romantic setting. Groups can go, but not at the particular area where we were sitting. I suggest, not mixing the larger group tables with the couple tables, a bit too distracting to focus on the date. But excellent altogether and will recommend to couples that are looking for food foreplay as a prelude to what's to come later that evening. :)"

  • "One confusing point: the brochettes are skewers and the canapes are like bruschettas. But our server was kind enough to explain that before we ordered. Before our orders arrived, we were provided with a complementary appetizer. I wish I could remember what it was because it was oh so delicious, but it was basically small cheese bread poufs. They were fresh out of the oven and the warm and soft cheese bread just melted in your mouth. The kobe beef canapes were oh so tender and delicious. The duck canapes were cooked perfectly. We also ordered the green beans, which was good, but nothing too special. I will definitely be returning to try the rest of the menu!"

  • "Our chef's tasting menu included items tailored to me as I do not eat meat. Appreciated that extra effort. Fabulous food. Tasting menu is a lot of food for groups with small to moderate appetites."

  • "The deluxe tasting menu was absolutely delicious. They did a great job of accommodating my husband's dislike of seafood and gave him fantastic alternate dishes."

  • "After having been to Amada and Garces Trading Company, I was looking forward to trying Tinto and it didn't disappoint. All of the food was really strong and was a little refreshing that it didn't just repeat all of the usual Spanish/Basque tapas choices. I would return."

  • "I was so excited to try Tinto after years of procrastinating and after so many amazing meals at Amada and the Trading Post. There wasn't anything that stood out as awful, but nothing stood out as amazing either. It was a solidly good meal, but compared to what I've come to expect from other Garces restaurants, it fell a bit flat. The food was good, but the timing a bit bizarre (everything at once and then 20 minutes later the last scalding hot plate). The service was prompt, but the server was a bit rude to other wait staff (in earshot of customers). The ambiance was nice, but it was frigid cold. My recommendation-- check out Amada instead."

  • "Worst dining experience ever. Waited over 1 hour for table & we had reservation! Staff blamed on patron's. Not likely. More likely inexperienced staff. Half of table ordered chef's tasting; I did not due to food allergies. Waiter forgot about me & I had to track him down to take my order and through out dinner to find out where the food was. The tasting individuals received 3-4 items and I still had not received my starter salad. When the salad finally arrived it was too salty. The rest of the meal was lousy: scrawny/limp prawns, over seasoned steak, teeny-tiny fruit platter. I was starving and went home and ate dinner. Over priced. Bad service. Terrible food. Awful Awful Awful. Jose you should be ashamed of this place!"

  • "From start to finish- excellent. Choosing the dishes was a challenge as everything sounded so appealing. We really couldn't make a bad choice."

  • "There are lots of restaurants to choose from around Rittenhouse, but you can't go wrong with Tinto. Most importantly, the food was delicious. The menu was not just standard tapas...it was original and diverse. The portions were perfect and the staff did a great job of timing the arrival of plates to the table. Key to our great experience at Tinto was the service. Our waiter was knowledgeable and attentive to just the right degree. Definitely worth a visit."

  • "Food quality was good, but portions were small . It didn't matter that much because I was out with my best friends. We were sat in the back near the bathroom - that stunk, and the bussing bucket kept slamming against he wall behind us . The service was great though, except the waitress forgot my drink at the end."

  • "We had a wonderful dining experience at Tinto. The tuna tar tar was out of this world and our server actually presented a list if what was in it so we could try to identify the amazingness...no such luck the secret stays in the sauce. Overall best meal so far in the city, a sure thing! Don't leave without trying the short ribs...or don't go at all!"

  • "With so many good restaurants in Philadelphia, repeat visits for me are the exception to the rule. However, I recently had the opportunity to revisit Tinto and try the Tasting. As always, the food was plentiful and delicious. This is definitely a great way to try a wide variety of dishes, but be sure to go hungry as some of these small plates are not so small. My favorites - the mixed charcuterie & cheese platter, the pulpo (octopus), and the green beans. The tasting menu also included olives, pork belly, potatoes, paella, and dessert. The service was very good and the dining room very inviting. I highly recommend this to any foodies and their friends."

  • "Tapas style allows for Great delicious food to be tried. Total ( no tip)bill for 5 with a $75 bottle of wine was $305. Very reasonable for Philly and the quality."

  • "Wow what an experience. Tinto is really about its small tastings. So we went with the " chefs tasting menu" and we are glad we did. Small plates does not mean you leave hungry. We went from excellent salami with egg salad and Spanish olives to pork belly and delicious broiled sea bass. And many dishes in between. Great experience with many dishes all working together and great Spanish red wines to choose from. Excellent and knowledgeable service and a great crowd mix. We are headed back soon."

  • "Food was good not great....small portions were just a little too small..BUT didnt like the dessert portion that maybe failing to realize the 400 and change were being spent we had to share amongst four of us the lighted dessert with our person of interest....thats called CHEAP! Shouldnt penny pinch especially if you want to be categorized an upper tier rest...ill leave it at that"

  • "TINTO was the perfect dinner spot for our group of 5 women. We totally enjoyed ourselves sharing the tapas-style plates of food. The food just kept on coming out and the wine kept flowing and our waiter couldn't have been any more attentive. Highly recommend."

  • "We had five items. Each better than the last. The duck confit and the prawns were great. Even the salads looked good. We left a number of items unordered that we will come again soon to try. "

  • "Inventive Spanish tapas-style food with layers of flavors, unique combinations. Modest portions (a plus for us). Small but very nice wine list, a bit on the expensive side compared to other restaurants at these price points."

  • "First time at a Tapas bar and first date; couldn't have felt more comfortable! The food was absolutely delicious and the staff was fantastic. We went in on a Sunday night and it was a little slow, but I can't imagine the staff being less attentive even if it was bustling. The ambiance was perfect for that first date setting, just wish we would have gone on a Saturday so we could've enjoyed a greater selection of wines! Overall one of my favorite restaurants around! "

  • "Tinto, you have single-handedly delivered the best, most interesting meal I have ever eaten. As a vegetarian, navigating a tapas menu is often difficult, but you really outdid yourself. Dinner started with the most beautiful glass of rose, which had notes of plum, lemon zest, and whipped cream. The cheese board was divine - and the addition of acacia honey was perfect against the aged manchego. The green beans were just beyond. Dates, marcona almonds, shallot, and perfectly tender-crisp beans came together into easily one of the most delicious things I've eaten. My boyfriend wanted to drink the vinaigrette! And the almond cake with black cherry ice cream (and a cortado) is just perfection. Thank you for a lovely meal."

  • "Tinto has a great selection of tapas, many different proteins & varied preparations...some high points: paella dish, duck canapé & Kobe beef...dessert was excellent as well (almond cake, yum!). Not so great: crab croquettes (boring) and a mushroom dish special, which was bland. The tables are WAY to close together, I heard all about our adjoining tables mother's breast cancer (lovely dinner conversation)... So a romantic dinner is impossible in a table for two. All in all a good meal with great service, the environment is just too crammed."

  • "I expected a lot more out of the food. We were sat downstairs which was quieter and was perfect for the night. We tried 6 different tapas options. The scallops were the best of our options and I was disappointed in most of the rest including the tuna tartare, mussels, and crab montaditos. I chose the scallops as a favorite because they were not overtaken by salt which commonly happens and I loved the emulsion and parsnip. I expected the blend of flavors to be more thoughtful and felt a lack of skill or moderate creativity in the other dishes. Sorry. I may have simply chosen wrong."

  • "While our service was great during the meal, it died as soon as we paid our check. There were 4 of us and between bill and tip, we left over $700. They got our money, the place was almost empty and we couldn't even get a glass of water after. "

  • "We went to Tinto's before a show at the Kimmel Center and made our server aware of that. We received two complimentary plates (one was octopus!). All of the plates were beautifully presented and beyond delicious - "fit for foodies" - the staff was pleasant and we were finished with more than enough time to get to our show. Cannot wait to go back!"

  • "We have been to a lot of Garces restaurants - Amada being our favorite - but went to Tinto about 5 years ago after returning from a trip to Spain. The food was a lot heavier - a more French cream sauce influenced side of Basque cuisine which was in some cases a bit too much. This time around it was much cleaner and simpler (the food prep I mean). We did the chef's tasting and every item was excellent. We will not be waiting 5 years to return this time."
