Tinto, an expression used to describe red wine served in pintxos bars throughout Northern Spain, is the ultimate expression of what a Basque wine bar should be. The intimate restaurant located at The Saguaro Hotel, draws inspiration from the rich cultural and culinary traditions of Basque country. Tinto inspires, tantalizes and satisfies with extraordinary cuisine by Chef Jose Garces and give guests the feeling that they are dining inside a rustic wine cellar.

  • "Went to Tinto with a lot of trepidation as I have been disappointed a number of times but I do love the food and the ambience it's just the service that is a hit or miss. In fact the couple of times that my party and I went it was so bad that they comped or gave us items for free. I would have been more than happy to pay, that's why we come back and try it over and over again. This time though they were on the ball! Service was great food came out on time (except a couple of dishes were already 86'd and it was only 12noon(??) =( Tinto is worth giving another shot. They really try. They do have good food (try the smoked salmon, it's the best deal on the menu!) place is great and a good setting to bring friends over."

  • "The restaurant was a little quiet for a Saturday night, but it was also 110 degrees in late June. It's a beautiful, stylish space -- perfect for a romantic date or fun group dinner. Our server could not have been more helpful, knowledgable and friendly. Though he encouraged our group of 10 to get the chef's tasting menu to help streamline service from the kitchen, he was more than accommodating when everyone wanted to order their own dishes. The timing of the plates was perfectly paced, wine recommendations were spot on, and the food was beyond delicious. Highly recommend!"

  • "The room is nice...dark and cool and quiet. The servers are friendly and knowledgeable. The drinks are very expensive (think a $17 martini) but the Wednesday half price wine list is a good deal. The food is what they advertise: tapas with very small portions even on the "large" plates. The food is interesting but not something I would eat regularly."

  • "Went during resturant week. It was the last night after eight previous restraunts. At 6:30 PM the place was empty. Five of us felt the food was fair at best. The method of sharing was strange- some times two per plate other times six to a plate. For example, six of us had to share one piece of cake. We will not go back. I think they were not happy that we ordered the restruant week menu. My wife chipped a tooth on the sand in the clams. However, the wait staff was outstanding."

  • "Michael, our server, did an incredible job of explaining everything on the menu and making it all sound delicious. We opted for the "high-end chef's choice" menu. Ten courses of small plates ("tapas"). It just wasn't very good. One course, the halibut, was dry and tasteless. The other plates were just run-of-the-mill dishes without any special flair (which we thought a "master chef" would have created). We wanted to try Tinto. We tried it, once is enough. "

  • "The food was unusual, but good not great. Our server started out well but was MIA for the majority of the meal. The runners brought the food (small plates) so fast that we couldn't keep up, and we wound up with stacks of dirty dishes on our table which weren't picked up until we asked. One of our guests didn't touch the last course because it was cold and congealed from sitting on the table for maybe 20 minutes while we finished the course before it. When this place first opened, about two years ago, it was beyond amazing, and we went often. It has slowly slacked off. Especially the service. An unusual dining experience to be sure, but I think this was probably our last visit. There are many other restaurants in Palm Springs trying harder. "

  • "As fairly new full-time residents of Palm Springs, The Sagauro hotel screamed 'tourist zone, stay away'. That is until we ventured in one night a couple weeks ago and had dinner at Tinto. We were pleasantly surprised with the food service and decor. We returned 2 night ago for Restaurant Week. Instead we opted for the Chefs tasting menu with paired wines. A great choice! Everything we have had is top notch! From the in-house smoked almonds, to the kale salad and lamb lollipops. Creative, tasty and well presented. Who would have thought such a sophisticated palatte could be served up at this kind of hotel? Not us, but we sure are glad it's so close! "

  • "The place is great, unfortunately they were out of the dates, artichokes,pulpo and by 10:30pm out of sangria. Not good for a bussy memorial weekend. Our waiter Julie was great and comped us with the AMAZING date ice cream. The other thing I did not like is that the customers siting next to us started smoking in the outdoor dining area, even though it is against the law in California, and I did mention it to the waiters they never did anything about the smoking. That was really bad!"

We each shared three plates and found sufficient portions throughout. Service was impeccable. Waitstaff works together to ensure a steady stream of plates at proper times, predicated on the diners. We dined on an open patio, and the sole concern was the proximity of other diners. Seatings are simply too cramped. Expect $40 per person; higher with alcohol. "

Several dishes we ordered were better than comparable dishes we had when we were in the Basque country in Spain. We did not try any of the larger plates, but the desserts were also excellent. This is a fun spot for a group and there was an energetic vibe. "

  • "The dining room in Tinto was warm and inviting upon our arrival. The fairly large space, located in the Suguaro Hotel, was divided on to sections by tall, wooden wine racks. We were seated on a lower level, near the outdoor dining space, which had really nice fireplaces. The atmosphere and the food were excellent. The Basque fare had some tasty traditionals, as well as some creative variations. Loved the octopus! Tinto loses some points for service, as we were neglected and overlooked at times in our seatin nook. Despite missing out on the specials, though, the server and kitchen were very accommodating. I'd go again!"

  • "We love Tinto and have had several wonderful dinners there, so we were excited to try Sunday brunch. What a disappointment that was! Our waiter seemed inexperienced and disinterested in us, and he could not describe the tapas plates -- specifically, the montadito. Although there was hardly anyone in the restaurant, service was extremely slow. My pancakes with blueberry sauce were unremarkable, and they came with fake maple syrup, not blueberry sauce. They were topped with about four blueberries and four overripe, old slices of strawberry. We had to request water and more coffee because no one paid attention to us. We requested our check and, when no one appeared to accept payment, we went inside and asked to pay. I'll stick to dinner."

  • "This is our 2nd time to Tinto, and it was just as good as the 1st. We like to sit outside by the fire pits, great atmosphere. Since they are a tapas restaurant with food from the Basque region of Spain, they are great at describing & recommending from the menu. I would recommend the kale salad, artichokes, and either chicken or pork that comes in shot glasses filled with a great tasting sauce. If you are looking for a big meal where each person orders for themselves, this is not the place for you. but if you like to try new things, its a great place to have a good glass of wine & tapas with friends!"

Our server was either a novice, or disinterested, but we did not allow this factor to ruin our experience. Should it repeat, we might choose another restaurant instead. We like Tinto because it is a neighborhood favorite and the food quality is consistent."
