Diner Reviews
  • "The atmosphere and food at Tin Angel were great. Our group largely enjoyed the dining experience, however the noise level was higher than we expected, such that it was difficult for people at opposite ends of our table of 5 non-hearing-impaired people to hear each other. The waiter seemed to be aware of this, as he spoke very loudly every time he came to check on the meal. Not sure if this was an isolated event, or if this is the norm for Tin Angel. I still recommend eating here, just don't expect a quiet (or romantic) evening."

  • "But be prepared to be there a while. It took an hour and 10 minutes to get our food!"

  • "We are from out of town and wanted something simple yet tasty. Great ambiance! Great selection of entrees! The parking was a bit difficult, yet valet could have helped, but we chose not to use them. We went for Lunch and they did not disappoint, and I have heard their dinner is where its at. If Lunch was this good, I would like to see what dinner has to offer."

  • "I went this past Saturday with three friends. We were seated promptly, but then waited an extended amount of time for our server and water. When she did show up, I ordered a bottle of prossecco, but instead of asking any of the other ladies if they were fine with that, she grabbed the wine list and walked away. The food was delicious and innovative, except that the salad we ordered was slightly disappointing and seemed to be missing ingredients. By the end, I waited twenty minutes for water. Instead of water we got the check. After asking for water, I still had a dry glass. I work in this industry, and I get being busy and forgetting. We clearly were not her priority. I would recommend this place, but not our server. She was terrible."

  • "My group enjoyed the lower noise level because we could comfortably visit and not need to scream at each others. The tables were decently spaced, the service was spot on and the food was much better than some of the newer more expensive restaurants we have recently tried. We will come back again."

  • "This was my first visit to Tin Angel. I selected it from reviews because I thought my mother, who is visiting from out of town, would like it. She likes perfectly executed dishes and a good wine list. Kind of picky. Oh, and she's a omnivore/carnivore and I'm a vegetarian. Often when she visits I have to compromise, or just order a salad. But not at Tin Angel! I was happy to have three or four vegetarian entrees to select from. She had a seafood risotto, and I went with a phyllo wrapped spaghetti-squash dish that was phenomenal."

  • "Food had nice flavor. Service was adequate. They use quite a bit of filler on their main dishes. I had the lobster and shrimp risotto. The headliner of the dish was tomato. Overall a pleasant experience."

  • "Who would have thought that this little restaurant tucked into the Vanderbilt neighborhood would have been such an excellent place to dine. The restaurant was recommended to me by a friend, and it was well worth the visit."

  • "Rick and Vicki Bolsom have been providing great places to eat since the late 1980s when they opened Cakewalk Cafe, which later became Zola. They know what it takes to keep it interesting, even for foodies. But its not a "scene." That said, they were on a 45 min. wait on a recent Tues. night. What does that say? It says, "It's GOOD!""

  • "We recently took friends here and everyone was thrilled. Our table had the satay and fried green tomatoes to start. The tomatoes were a bit firm but the satay was very tasty. Entrees included salmon, the special smoked pork chop, trout and the special cajun fish stew with andouille. The fish stew was superb. We will definitely keep this one on our rotation of favorites."

  • "Have enjoyed Tin Angel for dinner numerous times and never disappointed. Lunch was a little less satisfying this day. Valet was rather matter-of-fact, server was a little slow and unattentive, food was OK but not great (fries were cold, one sandwich was over done). We will be back since we have had many enjoyable dinners - just not sure about lunch."

  • "My husband and I found this restaurant searching for an open reservation while visiting Nashville and were very happy with the entire experience there. The bartender was pleasant and knowledgeable, our waiter was attentive, had great suggestions and although very busy, did not act like we were last on his list. The food was fabulous and the ambience although somewhat noisy was not overwhelming."

  • "We were a party of four - been wanting to visit this place for many, many years and finally did. Location and parking is great, reception, bar and seating area very good. Had reservations via Open Table and it clicked perfectly - drink service was efficient and drinks were good - appetizers came in a timely manner, but the wait was excessive for our main dishes. Maybe it was because they overcooked my meat special - leg of lamb - it is clearly a choice that was not a good one - very overcooked and just little bits and pieces of lamb - one should cook and serve this dish on the bone. Lamb is finicky like fish - thou shall not overcook it."

  • "We usually love everything about TA but last visit had to send back one of our entree's because it was not prepared as requested. Wait staff should have checked. This was corrected quickly and to our satisfaction."

  • "We enjoyed our second trip to Tin Angel to take out of town guests. The food was fantastic. We tried a range of dishes, from steak to seafood and all were great. We shared a vanilla bean creme brulee for dessert, which was perfect."

  • "We've been here many times and almost always enjoyed our meal choices. It's especially pleasant to sit at the bar where James gives you great service, or snag one of the front window tables and watch Nashville speed by. The only down side for us is the noise level, which detracts from an otherwise relaxing experience. Still, it's a neighborhood gem, and one of our long time favorite spots."

  • "We came in for their weekly Prix Fixe in the Middle consisting of a three course menu with different menu creations each week. This week, as every week, the offerings were creative, attractively plated, and courteously served at a great value."

  • "I know the younger crowd is going to all the trendy new places right now, so I hadn't given this restaurant much thought when booking work events. I came across ed it on open table and decided to give it a try. While it is not the hot new trendy spot in town, the food was incredible and there was great service. The prices are very reasonable as well. I came home and told my fiance I wanted to take him back sometime soon. Another Co-Worker mentioned it was his new favorite spot in town."

  • "So delicious! I've never eaten everything on my plate including app, salad, entrée, and dessert. What a treat! So glad we found this place! The service was phenomenal as well, I never felt rushed and the server was very helpful."

  • "We've been eating here since Tin Angel opened many years ago. It has never disappointed. Love the ambience with its brick walls and tin ceiling, the cozy bar, friendly service, and the menu that is both interesting and comforting at the same time. It's not trendy yet remains on trend. I had the shrimp and lobster risotto...perfect."

  • "I left Nashville in 1998 and Tin Angel was a favorite. Returned in Sept 2012 and its still a favorite now. Wine list is decent and both bartenders are awesome. Menu has something for a variety of tastes, but the salads and burgers are always a go to."

  • "Very nice evening with friends. The only complaint was that salad was not included wih the entree and the salad cost was excessive ($7-$9) as a extra. I did not see the option of a lower priced side salad and the waitress did not suggest one if it existed."

  • "I have frequented this establishment many times, but it was the first time to dine on my own. Right off the bat, I was not greeted with a smile by the host and was seated at a table for two right by the front door. He did not say enjoy your meal or even meet my eyes as I sat down. There was little to no ambiance at this location and the noise level was high! The restaurant was crowded, and I did not ask to be seated elsewhere, but a bit of friendliness goes a long way when it comes to the restaurant scene in Nashville. There are too many great venues with excellent cuisine in this area, for the Tin Angel to rest on it's laurels. No complaints for my server and the food (Goat Cheese Salad and Crunchy Chipolte Salmon)."

  • "The Tin Angel has been reliably good for such a long time - a friendly atmosphere and excellent service with new dishes on the menu often as well as old favorites."

  • "I took my special date to Tin Angel the last 2 Valentine's Days 2013 and 2014. I'm not sure exactly why but was much better in 2013 than this year. Food was still good maybe menu options were not as good in 2014 as in 2013. We were somewhat disappointed. Service was good, waiter was very attentive bordering on almost too much but certainly not a complaint. It was not that anything was wrong or bad just something wasn't what it was in 20014 over 2013. We went this year because of last year's experience. We might make another choice in 2015. Last year was 5 star this year was 4 star, basically just on that inherent instinct you know when its 5 star and when it's not. This year just wasn't 5 star if I can't specifically say why."

  • "I have been here half a dozen times or more and the service is always impeccable. It is my favorite thing about Tin Angel. The food is very good, but best service! Last time there, it was louder than i remembered, but it was busy too."

  • "My wife and I went there for Valentine's Day and, as usual, we enjoyed ourselves. Tin Angel is our personal romantic spot, as we have been there for 2 Valentine's Days and I also proposed to her there. Our entrees were excellent (I had filet; she had pork shank) and our deserts outstanding. Our only minor complaint was that our server, while very efficient, was not very personable. She did not talk much and did not crack a smile at all. Again, she did her job well, as she constantly checked on us and made sure our wine glasses were full. I just wish she had been a little warmer and happier, in particular since a lot of couples were in there for a happy occasion."

  • "Just once, I would like to eat out in Nashville and not be served food that has that obligatory smoke flavor. I had high hopes for Tin Angel, having been disappointed by either the quality or the flavor of food at almost every restaurant I've tried since I moved here 4 months ago. Tin Angel came highly recommended, and the ambiance and the service were just what I look for---reminiscent of great places in Chicago and Austin. But then the food came and, while it looked beautiful, it smelled like smoke or bacon or whatever that flavor that's ubiquitous in this town is. I want to love Tin Angel, but like most other places in town, it's a great place as long as you don't want to eat anything."

  • "Our reservation was made weeks in advance and we were seated at a table by the front door. Every time the valet came in and out cold air rushed across our table. It was also in the bar and very loud and difficult to talk from one moment to another. We have been here several times before but this was the most disappointing trip. On a positive note the food was excellent including the special dessert. I guess I was not expecting to sit by the front door given that the res. was made so far in advance."
