Diner Reviews
  • "Had a tranquil weekend at Lied Lodge, booked dinner the night we arrived, perfect end to perfect day. The environment is so peaceful, so it's nice the staff compliment that mood. Food was delicious, service great. I'll go back as often as I can."

  • "We were at the Lied Lodge for the weekend and were really looking forward to trying the restaurant as we'd read many good reviews. Unfortunately when we arrived for dinner we chose to eat at the buffet. The offerings were plenty with salad, soup, shrimp, prime rib, baked potato, flank steak and dessert but the food was "just okay". I really wish we had ordered from the menu as I'm sure it would have been better but that was our fault. We also had breakfast there on two mornings. It too was just okay as well. Though the service was always excellent and the restaurant was clean with wonderful views."

  • "This was our worst dining experience in recent memory. I ordered a scotch on the rocks. I got rocks and could tell the glass had met the Dewars bottle only because there was a yellow tint to the melt. If there was an ounce of liquor I'd be shocked. We ordered and our waiter brought bread, the crust of which was hot, the center of which was frozen. Our waiter eagerly promised he'd have new hot bread right out. In a few minutes. And then a few minutes more. Then in a second. It finally showed up after we'd finished a salad and our entrees had arrived. Ah! Yummy? No! My short ribs were tasteless, and the sauce was congealed and equally bland. My wife's vegetables weren't done. All in all, a great disappointment."

  • "We had a great visit and enjoyed our visit. The dining room was not very crowded as we went during the week. We missed the breakfast buffet we enjoyed the last time, but our meal was good. We will definitely be back."

  • "Me and my friends ate there during the last night of our stay at Leid Lodge, and it was wonderful. The appetizers were tasty, and the main course was excellent and my friend greatly admired the wine selection. The service was ggod as well. The only downfall was that one of my friends said she wasnt too exctatic about her pasta dish, but she said it was good nonetheless. Great atmosohere, and I cant wait to return during the warmer to enjoy outside dining."

  • "My spouse and I went to the Lied Lodge on a getaway weekend. We arrived on a Friday night. Out of all our meals in the dining room, Friday night's was the worst. We were encouraged to get the buffet because of the prime rib. Honestly, we have both had much better prime rib, and the rest of the buffet, apart from the salad, which was very fresh, and the soup, a tomato bisque that was good, was terrible. The buffet food had been out too long and was dehydrated, and the desserts were a travesty. Other tables nearby had better-looking food, but we learned that they had ordered from the menu. Our waitress was helpful and solicitous, however, and the view outside was gorgeous. We ordered Saturday's meals from the menu and were much happier."

  • "Not much to choose from ifyoudonoteat meat. Salad bar was very dissapointing the only thing I could eat was the lettuce even the Beans had pork in it. Way to much pork in your food. I could only eat the vegatbles the rest nothing. So the price was way to much for what I could eat. I could eat at other buffet for half the price and have 30 times more to choose from. You have a nice place but we just see it to be impractical for us."

  • "I've been to this lovely restaurant dozens of times over the last 20 years or so, but always to its excellent Sunday buffet. So when Friday turned out to be a glorious early spring day, we decided to drive down that evening and try from the menu. When we got there it turned out that the attached conference center hotel was full and so the restaurant management had decided to have a prime rib buffet as well as the menu. Guess we'll just have to go back in a few weeks to try the menu. The food being carried by to diners who had chosen not to have the buffet looked delicious! The service was outstanding, the view, the best available in Nebraska, and the ambience was, as always, perfect. Five star all the way."

  • "My boyfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal at the Timber Dining Room. We were seated at a table with a nice view and served promptly. Our waitress friendly, conscientious, and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was presented nicely and tasted delicious. We were "fat and happy" at the end of the experience. The only downside was the draft coming through the windows next to our table. It was really cold and windy outside that evening, and the area near our table was quite chilly! If you visit the Lodge in February, bring layers. It's worth it. :)"

  • "The dining room is lovely and adapts beautifully for meals with children or just dinner for two. Nothing compares to the view from the dining room."

  • "It's always a pleasure to dine at Lied Lodge. The service is excellent and personal, the food is delicious, and the atmosphere makes it hard to go home! Lied Lodge and the Timber Dining Room are two of my and my family's favorite places!"

  • "Nice dining experience.Food was good, drinks were good, service as good. Would definitely come back and enjoy again. Also, the atmosphere is nice due to the quotes on the wall and the wood pillars throughout. Cute table decorations too."

  • "This is our second year spending Valentine's weekend at the Lodge. We had the Valentine Buffet ... The buffet buffet was $24 / person . . . nice salad bar; decent veggies - it would have been nice to have a baked potato option. Nice three meat choice, chicken, pork and prime rib. The pork was to dry for my taste. Needed more variety with the desert bar - not everyone likes pumpkin pie or cheese cake. I was a little disappointed in the food quality and selection for $24."

  • "It was ok, food was average at best, but the place is great just expected 4 to 5 star food for the price."

  • "We waited for nearly an hour for our food. When it arrived, there was no explanation or even acknowledgement that this had happen from our waitress. The deserts took 15 minutes. Waitress not friendly. We spend fifty bucks just to leave feeling stressed out. I wish we had spent half as much at McDonalds. It would have been more enjoyable. Earlier in the week we stopped for lunch. The food was delivered promptly and the waitress was very nice---great experience."

  • "Great ambiance and friendly staff that was totally overrun by the Valentine's day crowd. My wife ordered steak medium that came out rare and I had the very dry and lukewarm chicken roulade. Service was OK but our plates from previous courses stayed on the table throughout the whole meal."

  • "We were looking forward to food based on menu but our expectations were not met. I think they need a more skilled chef and they need to do better with the sauces for the food. By the way, their children menu came out as adult sized meals. Need make those smaller."

  • "We took our daughter-in-law to The Lied Lodge for her February birthday. We had a table at the windows overlooking a beautiful winter scene...sunny, blue skies and fresh white snow covering the open fields and woods...with a few flakes still falling. We thoroughly enjoyed eating delicious food, talking and enjoying the ambiance, inside and out. The chef at the omelet bar was friendly and produced a delicious omelet, exactly as I requested. The prime rib was so tender and tasty. The comfort food, like fried chicken and mashed potatoes, was beyond expectations. Our daughter in law really enjoyed the salmon. We all loved the delicious apple pie...although it could have used some rich vanilla ice cream on top :-)"

  • "We had made reservations and the tables were all set up when we arrived. None of us live in the town and we were coming from different directions so arrival on our part was a little disjointed. Ranged in age from 1 to 88. It was accommodating for everyone. Were a little disappointed that they didn't have a buffet. Lunch menu was salads and sandwiches. Wish it could have had a couple of dinner items but we all found something that we enjoyed. After eating we went into the common area for more visiting. Very pleasant atmosphere."

  • "This party of 4 had a great lunch at the Lied Center in Nebraska City. The food was delicious and well prepared. Served hot and ready to eat. The waitress we had was top notch. She was very attentive, pleasant, and knowledgeable. The atmosphere was great and we are very glad we went there to celebrate a birthday. Highly recommended!"

  • "We have eaten at the Timber Dining Room many times and usually choose the buffet. This time, we were disappointed. The entrees and side dishes offered were not appetizing. The scalloped potatoes had absolutely no taste. The prime rib was good but the seafood offering was not appealing The side dish of roasted cauliflower and baby carrots had no seasonings and the cauliflower was tough. Nothing was totally awful, but it was not that great a dining experience. I remarked to my husband that I will be ordering off the menu because a cheeseburger and fries that went by looked much better than what was on my plate. Perhaps the buffet should be discontinued if quality has to be compromised. Or perhaps it was just an off night."

  • "A very good place for a special occasion. Prices are somewhat high but are locally sourced and for what we had justified I think. A little less lively than I like, but we were the youngest ones there so maybe that's why? I will definitely go back when we stay at the lodge again and would recommend it to anyone looking to celebrate a special occasion or just a roamtic evening. Oh and we also had a good semaritan pay for our meal!"

  • "had to wait too long for dinner menu selections; prime rib was very, very rare; restaurant was under staffed; had to ask for a different table for brunch, reserved table was too small; prices were quite high; menu offerings were too uncommon; had to ask for a kids' menu; the breakfast brunch offerings were good; the dinner buffet offerings were much less desirable;"

  • "We love the Lied Center. We eat there on special occasions--birthdays. anniversaries, Easter. Christmas to name a few. Christmas brunch with Santa has become a tradition in our house for the kids. We go the Sunday before Christmas to see him and enjoy the feeling of the holidays that the hotel has. The brunch is wonderful also- they have a kids section, more of an adult section- omelets and prime rib! Can't go wrong!"

  • "I really enjoy the Lied Center, every time I go, I have wonderful food. Our meal with the prime rib buffet was good, I would have given it a great, but I think we received the last of a roast than the prime rib, which was on stand by when the roast ran out. The roast was dry. Other than that, the rest of the food was excellent."

  • "My wife and I recently stayed at the Lied Lodge and ate supper and breakfast in the Timber Dining room. There were only a handful of other guests staying so the restaurant was fairly quiet. My wife loved the Chicken Oscar and the Smoke Pork loin medallions were delicious. By far the best thing that we ate during our trip was the oatmeal from the breakfast al a cart menu. Holy cow was it good. Steel ground oats that are simmered in apple cider = deliciousness. Would definitely come back here again."

  • "Well, unfortunately I misunderstood the Thanksgiving Day reservation times and thought that my 6:30 pm would be the Thanksgiving Day buffett. I discovered it was merely the left overs. Which did not taste fresh. The deserts appreared to have been sitting out all day, especially the cake which was dry. I had been looking forward to the typical prime ribe and salmon of previous years as well as a variety of salads. Not there this year. I don't mean to be overly critical but when I made the reservation I was unaware that the Thanksgiving Day buffet had ended much earlier."

  • "Ate twice at the Timber Dining room. Thanksgiving buffet was good overall but the turkey was dry and the rest of the entree line was average (kudos for the appetizer/salads/desserts tho). Friday buffet was good but one piece of carrot cake was completely dried out."
