Diner Reviews
  • "The Lied Lodge is a stunning building in a beautiful location. All it needed to be a first class establishment was a first class restaurant - and now it has it. I've long wished I could recommend the Timber Dining Room, but previous visits have been less than inspiring. Not so now - the place is great! We had an excellent meal there Saturday night. They still have plenty in the way of slabs of beef for the average Nebraskan, but the must have hired a chef who can prepare more than just rib-eyes. We will be taking more trips to Nebraska City to dine here."

  • "The locally sourced food and wine; along with the chef's vision was a wonderful experience in dining. The vision some people had years ago about this place is coming to fruition. Go with it. Grow with it. This might just be the crown jewel in the state of Nebraska."

  • "This was probably our 4th or 5th visit. Always before, we ordered from the menu. This time we decided to eat from the buffet and we were very disappointed. The choices of meat were dry and too well done. Even for the prime rib, we were told that rare was not an option. With that being said, we enjoyed the location, ambiance and the server was kind and pleasant. We will gladly visit again, but our advice is... Order from the menu for a freshly prepared meal."

  • "Food was excellent. Reuben Sandwich was served on marbled rye bread. Bibb Salad combined local ingredients-dried cherries, hazelnuts- to make a great tasting meal."

  • "Timber dining room continues to please us with their food choices, ambiance and great service. We are always pleased and love a getaway to the Lied Lodge whenever possible."

  • "We arrived towards the end of the brunch reservations period. A lot of the appetizer and anti-pasta was gone and no indication that it was going to be replaced. I did not expect that it would, as the number of diners continued to dwindle as the clock approached closing time. My observation/recommendation only would be that diners plan on an early arrival, to not miss out on the salmon and capers and other tasty viands."

  • "It was delicious though we missed not having any fruit options."

  • "We enjoyed our stay at the Lied Lodge and our breakfast outside at The Timber Dining Room. The food was very good and the service was excellent!"

  • "We have eaten here over many years and the atmosphere and the cuisine is exceptional."

  • "The omlet chef was very accomodating to our particular tastes. The prime rib was fine but a bit over done. The steamed veggies were bland and over cooked. The desserts were wonderful and greatly varied."

  • "The Sunday brunch food was fresh and very good, and the lodge is all timbers and wood - nice ambience for a casual brunch! A woman was playing the piano in the background - old favorites from the 40s and 50s. Very enjoyable!"

  • "Timber Dining Room inside Lied Lodge is a great find in Nebraska City. The scenery and cuisine is a surprise in Nebraska City and well worth the trip from Omaha. They had just started using a new menu a few days before we arrived and the servers were knowledgeable about the new menu and gave valuable recommendations. We loved the short rib appetizer - plate-licking good - and both had the salmon dinner, which was melt-in-your-mouth delicious."

  • "Parts of the buffet meal we had were very good, particularly the shrimp, parts were poor (the prime rib was tasteless and tough, and the carrot cake was really dry), and the rest was pretty much average. Considering the cost plus gratuity came to over $30, I would have to classify the meal as disappointing."
    Dined on 5/30/2014
  • "The food is outstanding and the room is attractive and quiet. The service was just average. We had to ask for bread plates. I had to look for the server to ask for more coffee, but the food was super."

  • "This was my first time eating at the Lied Lodge and only my second time at the Arbor Day Farms. They were very accommodating when I had to increase my reservation size. There was plenty of food and the food seemed fresh and was excellent taste-wise. The waitress was friendly and attentive. I am excited to find a time to stay at the Lied Lodge and plan on visiting the Timber Dining Room again very soon! Thank you for making mother's day extra special for my mother and future mother-in-law!"

  • "I wan't aware of Timber Dining room until a friend suggested it and I'm glad she did. What a wonderful place to have a small group for lunch or dinner. Very attentive staff and good food. We'll definitely be back!"

  • "We thought the food was very good. Lots of selections and the wait staff was attentive. I would recommend to my friends. It is wonderful just walking around the grounds after dinner because the location is woodsy and relaxing."

  • "I met at the Timber Restaurant for a business lunch meeting, so that fact that it was quiet was to our advantage. The service was good aswas the food. Only criticism I would have was the the tables were sticky, as tough they had not been properly wiped down."

  • "The presentation was beautiful. The items were not in abundance like a Vegas buffet, which I much prefer because what was was served was quality food. The wait staff was very attentive. Would definitely recommend."

  • "My family always enjoys our dining experience at timber dining room at Lied Lodge. The building is beautiful. The food and service are always above and beyond excellent. Easter brunch just caps the whole experience. The variety and quality of the brunch buffet is exceptional — this year the salmon was alone worth the drive to Nebraska city, but we enjoyed our other choices as well."

  • "The presentation was beautiful and appealing...the atmosphere is outstanding, but the taste of most things was not the greatest...needed more flavor/spices especially the potatoes and vegetables???? Probably will not go again unless we have visitors from out of state that would travel to Nebraska City to see the view and experience the river community."

  • "Food great, ambience great, service this day very subpar. I think it was just our particular waitress not overall reflection for whole restaurant. View awesome!"

  • "Had a tranquil weekend at Lied Lodge, booked dinner the night we arrived, perfect end to perfect day. The environment is so peaceful, so it's nice the staff compliment that mood. Food was delicious, service great. I'll go back as often as I can."

  • "We were at the Lied Lodge for the weekend and were really looking forward to trying the restaurant as we'd read many good reviews. Unfortunately when we arrived for dinner we chose to eat at the buffet. The offerings were plenty with salad, soup, shrimp, prime rib, baked potato, flank steak and dessert but the food was "just okay". I really wish we had ordered from the menu as I'm sure it would have been better but that was our fault. We also had breakfast there on two mornings. It too was just okay as well. Though the service was always excellent and the restaurant was clean with wonderful views."

  • "This was our worst dining experience in recent memory. I ordered a scotch on the rocks. I got rocks and could tell the glass had met the Dewars bottle only because there was a yellow tint to the melt. If there was an ounce of liquor I'd be shocked. We ordered and our waiter brought bread, the crust of which was hot, the center of which was frozen. Our waiter eagerly promised he'd have new hot bread right out. In a few minutes. And then a few minutes more. Then in a second. It finally showed up after we'd finished a salad and our entrees had arrived. Ah! Yummy? No! My short ribs were tasteless, and the sauce was congealed and equally bland. My wife's vegetables weren't done. All in all, a great disappointment."

  • "We had a great visit and enjoyed our visit. The dining room was not very crowded as we went during the week. We missed the breakfast buffet we enjoyed the last time, but our meal was good. We will definitely be back."

  • "Me and my friends ate there during the last night of our stay at Leid Lodge, and it was wonderful. The appetizers were tasty, and the main course was excellent and my friend greatly admired the wine selection. The service was ggod as well. The only downfall was that one of my friends said she wasnt too exctatic about her pasta dish, but she said it was good nonetheless. Great atmosohere, and I cant wait to return during the warmer to enjoy outside dining."

  • "My spouse and I went to the Lied Lodge on a getaway weekend. We arrived on a Friday night. Out of all our meals in the dining room, Friday night's was the worst. We were encouraged to get the buffet because of the prime rib. Honestly, we have both had much better prime rib, and the rest of the buffet, apart from the salad, which was very fresh, and the soup, a tomato bisque that was good, was terrible. The buffet food had been out too long and was dehydrated, and the desserts were a travesty. Other tables nearby had better-looking food, but we learned that they had ordered from the menu. Our waitress was helpful and solicitous, however, and the view outside was gorgeous. We ordered Saturday's meals from the menu and were much happier."

  • "Not much to choose from ifyoudonoteat meat. Salad bar was very dissapointing the only thing I could eat was the lettuce even the Beans had pork in it. Way to much pork in your food. I could only eat the vegatbles the rest nothing. So the price was way to much for what I could eat. I could eat at other buffet for half the price and have 30 times more to choose from. You have a nice place but we just see it to be impractical for us."

  • "I've been to this lovely restaurant dozens of times over the last 20 years or so, but always to its excellent Sunday buffet. So when Friday turned out to be a glorious early spring day, we decided to drive down that evening and try from the menu. When we got there it turned out that the attached conference center hotel was full and so the restaurant management had decided to have a prime rib buffet as well as the menu. Guess we'll just have to go back in a few weeks to try the menu. The food being carried by to diners who had chosen not to have the buffet looked delicious! The service was outstanding, the view, the best available in Nebraska, and the ambience was, as always, perfect. Five star all the way."

  • "My boyfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal at the Timber Dining Room. We were seated at a table with a nice view and served promptly. Our waitress friendly, conscientious, and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was presented nicely and tasted delicious. We were "fat and happy" at the end of the experience. The only downside was the draft coming through the windows next to our table. It was really cold and windy outside that evening, and the area near our table was quite chilly! If you visit the Lodge in February, bring layers. It's worth it. :)"

  • "Nice dining experience.Food was good, drinks were good, service as good. Would definitely come back and enjoy again. Also, the atmosphere is nice due to the quotes on the wall and the wood pillars throughout. Cute table decorations too."

  • "This is our second year spending Valentine's weekend at the Lodge. We had the Valentine Buffet ... The buffet buffet was $24 / person . . . nice salad bar; decent veggies - it would have been nice to have a baked potato option. Nice three meat choice, chicken, pork and prime rib. The pork was to dry for my taste. Needed more variety with the desert bar - not everyone likes pumpkin pie or cheese cake. I was a little disappointed in the food quality and selection for $24."
