A word from Tim Garling's Jackalope Grill
Said to be drawn to the scent of alcohol, the jackalope often appears only to those who have been enjoying fine wine, beer and spirits. The jackalope’s uncanny ability to mimic human singing is also known to lull many a traveler on the moonlit trail. Like this elusive – some say extinct – western creature resembling a jack rabbit with deer antlers, The Jackalope Grill offers the hard-to-find combination of imaginative French-inflected Northwest cuisine and an unpretentious environment.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "My sister and her friend visited us from SO Cal for a couple of days here in Bend, OR. They stayed in The Oxford Hotel which is only steps away from the Jackalope and a public parking garage. We were all most impressed with the food quality and presentation. I especially loved my salmon dish. A Great restaurant in the heart of a great little city."

  • "In a town with hundreds of good restaurants, the Jackalope stands out with great food, a quiet atmosphere, a nice wine list and great service. We would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for fine dining in Bend."

  • "We really enjoyed the ambiance , service and good food. The price point is high, so great for special occasions. We hope they will lower the prices so we , and other customers Could enjoy the place more often!"

  • "Food was excellent but had to wait 45 minutes for meal to arrive. Others in the restaurant had normal wait ~20 minutes. A lot of empty tables but guests were turned away. I think they may have been short handed."

  • "This was an anniversary event. We enjoy Jackalope and went back because it is a favorite. This time we were a bit disappointed. The pork schnitzel, while tasty, was tough in places. The piece of salmon was superb, the sauce and noodles not so much. This is a matter of personal taste - not a critique of preparation. We shared our observations with Tim Garling. He was most receptive and indicated the salmon dish was due for a replacement. He took note of the comments about the quality of the pork. Service continues to be pleasant and competent. Our server was Eric: he took fine care of us. He also makes a great Manhattan. We will certainly return. This is a first class venue and one small disappointment doesn't spoil our overall opinion."

  • "It was a good night. A little pricy just for Dinner. Got scolded for being 15 minutes late, mainly due to the fact it is hard to find the at night and I would not imagine daytime is much better. GPS put us right on the mark and we still drove around the block a couple times before getting out to walk. Server made up for Hostess rudeness and the whole experience was soon forgotten. Good wine list, we had a bottle of Red and one of white. When I say pricy it was $186 for 3 before tip so more of a special occasion place for my budget. Still a good place and accommodated my wife in a wheel chair nicely"

  • "Jackalope is one of our favorites. Love the jaeger schnitzel and the gnocchi but everything is delicious. Never been disappointed. Decor is wonderful as well."

  • "Good food and service was good but very expensive for Bend. I could have eaten for two for a week for what we paid for that meal."

  • "We have been dinning at the Jackalope since they started on the East side. They continue to serve excellent food and service is usually very nice. Our dining experience was first class. From mixed drinks to dessert. We both had the cioppino and it was great. Our waiter was perfect. There when we needed him. My only problem was they ran out of mussels."

  • "We visted on a beautiful snowy night. They had the snowy trees on the paitio lit and it was really nice to look at. The food, drinks and sevice was reallly good as it has been on previous vistis. Jackalope is a great place for date night. As a local here i have been to most of our wonderful restaurants and Jackalope is the best for a romantic dinner."

  • "As expected, our dinner at Jackalope was outstanding, well prepared and presented and delicious. The grouper was excellent and the rack of lamb was cooked perfectly with an rich and vibrant sauce. The server was well trained and did not rush our meal and was attentive to our table."

  • "We have been dining at Jackalope for several years. Have always enjoyed the food and service and now enjoy the ambiance since the restaurant has moved from their strip mall location to downtown. The menu is not extensive but is diverse enough to please most tastes and is usually augmented by daily specials.Good wine selection. On New Year's eve the restaurant was full but service was prompt and friendly as usual. Started with classic Cesar salad (whole leaves, not chopped) with just the right amount of dressing. Entree was a beef filet that was cooked exactly as ordered, accompanied by 3 large grilled prawns, asparagus spears and garlic mashed potatoes. Had the tiramasu for dessert which never disappoints.Pricing is moderate to expensive."

  • "Have eaten at Jackalope many times over the years and again a very good dinner, well served in a quiet ambiance that is always reliable. Wife had the filet that was exceptional and I had the schnitzel that was good. Only criticism is the food is rich and sometimes would be better if the sauce was on the side as in the case of the schnitzel. Another option is a meal of several appetizers which are tried and true."

  • "Great service. Our waiter was helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. The ambiance was sublime, suitable for romantic dinners as well as families. The escargot is not to be missed. And the cioppino is stocked with ocean delights. The osso bucco and brisket were dry and failed to impress. The tiramisu was excellent and the cookies were perfectly soaked but the chocolate cake was just as boring as it sounds. Overall pretty good but not every dish hit the mark"

  • "Had not been to Jackalope Grill in years, in fact it was at the old location. What a surprise! It is a truly gorgeous space and was wonderfully decorated for Christmas, inside and out. We were there for a special birthday dinner and it did not disappoint. We especially appreciated the design features which keep the noise level tolerable. All members of our party are still raving about the crusty, poppyseeded bread which started the meal. The best bread ever! The birthday boy had the special of the house and it was fabulous. The rest of us had steaks and they were amazing. All sides, which we consider very important, were excellent as well. A birthday dessert, chocolate pot de creme was complimentary and delicious. What a meal!"

  • "My wife and I were celebrating selling our house in Michigan and chose the Jackalope Grill for the occasion because we knew from past experience we would get good food and service. We were not disappointed."

  • "This restaurant is in our special occasion category. We like the ambience; tables are arranged along a narrow room and not crowded together. We heard the people at the next table, but otherwise the room was quiet. The restaurant features a lot of meat entrees, and also some game, so choices are wonderful for my husband but not so much for me. I prefer fish, chicken, or even a vegetarian option. They ran out of one of the specials, so I chose the fish with risotto. I was surprised that the small portion was so rich. It was swimming in olive oil and I couldn't finish. My husband had rack of lamb and loved it. I think that combining small plates and not choosing an entree is the best option for my taste."

  • "We had 3 for a work Christmas dinner. Reservation was easy and table was ready. Drinks were good. Service was very good. Small plates were pretty small for the price, but good. Entrées were very good. Desserts were good also. We will go back to try other items."

  • "Our group of ten were treated to a remarkable five course dinner, with seven different wines produced by Chehalem Winery. We stumbled on to the 4th Chehalem Wine Dinner quite by accident, but vowed to go back again next year. Awesome service, superb food and wine, and a chance to visit with owners Tim and Kathy Garling, and the winemaker from Chehalem Winery."

  • "For the second year in a row, my wife and I have enjoyed a non traditional Thanksgiving with Tim: no turkey, no gravy, no sweet potatoes, no cranberries... You get the drift. For the second year in a row we have been ecstatic over a real fine dining experience for Thanksgiving Dinner. My wife ordered the jaeger schnitzel which came perfectly prepared and rivaled any such fare in Austria or Bavaria. I selected a fish I had never heard of: Pacific spearfish -- a member of the marlin family far more likely to be found stuffed and hanging on a wall than in a delectable dish. The fish was served on a bed of tasty risotto, and both were cooked to perfection. We plan to repeat the experience next Thanksgiving -- as well as frequent visits between!"

  • "This was our first time (3 couples) to Jackalope Grill and we all had a great time! The menu had a variety of gourmet foods to choose from for the meat lovers, seafood lovers and vegetarians! The sour dough bread was nice and hot upon serving, the service impeccable with drinks replenished at all times and the desert scrumptious! Highly recommend this restaurant for special occasions and gatherings. What a lovely place to dine in Bend! Thanks Tim for the wonderful food you create!"

  • "From the refreshing cocktails, excellent service, and the incredible house-made Pheasant and Wild Mushroom Sausage, this was a dinner to remember. Jackalope Grill will definitely be one of our favorite "go-to" restaurants in Bend going forward."

  • "Although the overall was good the entire experience was ruined when we made a special effort to get there for happy hour. After we ordered they explained happy hour was for the bar only. I double checked their website and no mention of "bar only" is made. Their approach to this was "sorry". Change the website or change the policy. This customer was obviously "wrong"."

  • "I took my mom to Jackalope Grill to celebrate her retirement. The food was good and the service excellent. The portions are large and flavorful. They brought my mom dessert to help celebrate. I wish they had fresh brewed iced tea though. Their tea comes from a fountain. In a higher end restaurant, I would expect fresh brewed."
