A word from Tierra Sur at Herzog Wine Cellars
Tierra Sur Restaurant, inside Herzog Wine Cellars new state-of-the-art winery, is a New Americanseasonal cuisine,

With Tierra Sur, Gabe Garcia's cooking is rustic, unpretentious and ingredient driven utilizing local farmers when ever available. Menu items such as aged rib-eye steak and wild salmon are cooked outdoors over an open flame. The menu also includes house-made organic corn tortillas with exotic fillings such as birria (chili-braised lamb) with salsa cruda and grilled achiote-marinated red snapper with tomatillo salsa. A high point of the menu is the prix fixe wine tasters meal with wine pairings for each course.Continued

  • "I had seen some negative remarks on Yelp by group who used a coupon. We had a groupon and never, ever, did we recieve less than top notch service. The host at wine tasting bar was very nice , as were servers. My daughter and I were seated for our dinner reservation and aour waiter suggested we do wine tasting first and offered to hold our table. How nice! His recommendation for wine to go with the duck was spot on (after he inquired about my likes). Our food was exceptional and plentiful. I will retirn without a coupon! Well worth the price!"

  • "My husband and I had dinner on Tuesday evening. I had the Alaskan halibut ($45) and my husband had the ribeye ($54). Not only was the meal expensive, it was not very good. Yes it was edible, but nothing to write home about. We will not be returning to Herzogs."

  • "We had a nice dining experience, but.... Felt very rushed by our waiter. First time coming to the table, asked if we wanted water, told us about the special, and did not ask if we wanted wine!! It's a winery, of course we did. We asked if we could order wine and he pointed out the wine list and left. Came back and asked if we were ready to order.... Dinner, no, we said would like to start by ordering wine. I think he came back 3 more times to see if we were ready to order dinner. He never came back to ask if we would like another glass of wine we had to ask the guy that served the salads. Anyway, he waiting style was unlike our first 2 experiences."

  • "Love the surprise of driving through a light industrial area and walking into Herzogs. It's fun to see the wine tasters at the bar (or to be one of them) as one walks toward the dining room. It's a lovely room for lunch or dinner and the food is unparalleled."

  • "I bought a Groupon after hearing such great reviews of the winery and the restaurant. All around disappointed. Did not find the wines to be very good or interesting, even their reserve cab. Food way over priced as others have noted, even with Groupon, was not a deal. We tried 4 appetizers as my friend did not like the fish - but also, $45 for Halibut is excessive. I understand the meat is more expensive as kosher, but not fish. We had the kielbasa, the lamb sausage flat bread, the romaine salad and the beef cheeks. Beef cheeks were terrible and we did not eat them; flat bread was best but so rich, kielbasa ok and romaine fine...Sadly, I will not return."

  • "the restaurant has no decor, although they are redecorating. the tables are set up more cafeteria style, with little space between tables. the food was super interesting and delicious. the menu, on the other hand was rather limited. just wondering how often i'd want to come back to taste the items i didn't choose first time around. a really nice experience. the gift/wine tasting area is very well laid out. very easy access from the freeway. very glad we went."

  • "Very tasty dishes, but not sure they were worth the price. We've had almost food that is almost as good at much cheaper restaurants. Questionable whether the added taste is worth the significantly higher prices, but that is for each consumer to decide."

  • "They are winery affiliated. Do the wine tasting pre-dining!"

  • "Three ladies had lunch at Tierra Sur and were all very impressed with the food and service. If going, do need to know it is a kosher restaurant so there is no dairy products what so ever but we were not lacking in food choices and have been telling friends they should try to have a meal here soon."

  • "Bought a Groupon for this restaurant and was sticker shocked at the cost of the meal. I have no problem spending money for a fabulous meal, but for the value I've had better. > Ordered the Rib eye for 2 and was not cooked to order, had to be sent back and still came back raw. > Wait staff provided excellent service"

  • "My husband and I had a wonderful experience at your restaurant. The service was great and the waiters were very polite and respectful. Everything about it was classy. But most importantly, the food was divine. Those beef cheek nuggets were awesome! Thank you"

  • "This is a major surprise in Oxnard. The food is excellent as is the service, if a bit pricey. You can enjoy wine tasting either before or after. Reservations are a must."

  • "I will not return. The staff at the wine tasting were rude, unwelcoming and appeared disinterested in their job. It was not a pleasant experience. The meal took more than an hour to arrive at our table. I won't return."

  • "Wine was fantastic and so were the apps we ordered. The rib eye was tough and so was the lamb? Everyone enjoyed the meal and ambience."

  • "We had a birthday dinner. My father's steak was amazing. My husband had the halibut that was wonderful. I enjoyed the duck. The warm Mexican chocolate cake was delicious. I loved the caramel "ice cream". Even though I am not a Caramel fan but the texture mad taste was not overwhelming, it complimented the warm cake that was like a lava cake."

  • "We did this as a Groupon, so we got a discount to do the dinner and wine tasting. The food was good, but way overpriced. There are comparable restaurants in Oxnard for half the price. Would not go back without a coupon."

  • "Tierra Sur at Herzog Wine Cellars is out of the way but, it is out of this world. The dining experience is framed by perfectly prepared food, attentive staff, elegant surroundings and respectful guests. The sophisticated ambiance and outstanding food contribute to the best kosher dining I have ever had."

  • "I do not eat any meat or poultry out since I observe the dietary laws. Therefore, this restaurant is absolutely fabulous!! The menu items are incredible. Extremely original and beautifully presented. Kudos to the chef! Came here for lunch with 3 friends. We all ordered different items, and we all loved our lunch. Even the desserts and coffee were excellent. After having our wonderful lunch, we went to the gift shop. There too, the items were different, very attractive, and reasonably priced. We all made purchases. Would definitely come back, even though it is quite a distance. Actually, it made for a lovely day."

  • "Who knew we'd discover a wine cellar of a re known wine in an industrial park? The environment may not have been the Central Coast or Napa but our experience was charming just the same."

  • "Having dined at Tierra Sur a few years ago, I was absolutely shocked at the service and even more so at the quality of food. We ordered the sea food ....it was 38 minutes before we were served. The fish was extremely dry...the vegetables cooked so long that the broccoli was to tough to chew. Needless to say, I will NEVER return and will l inform my friends of the terrible evening! The wine tasting attendant was extremely helpful and very polite."

  • "Great time dining here. I bought a groupon for $41 wine tasting for 2. It included $50 towards dine in. I ended up paying $25 for taxes and gratuity. I thought it was reasonable. Food was excellent, I ordered salmon and my companion had their magi dish. Excellent sauces to pair with main dishes. It came with choice of salad or soup. I thought the mix of taste and texture was well paired! If u don't mind going on a road trip, this is a nice surprise off the beaten track - gra8ful"

  • "What a great cultural experience. Enjoyed everything about the restaurant, food, very plentiful, in fact I took half of it home for dinner that night and it was still very tasty. Service was excellent as well as the ambiance. It was extremely quiet even though it was attended by many diners. We were celebrating a birthday and I had ordered flowers to be placed at the table which they were. Also for dessert we were served a complimentary piece of chocolate flourless cake which was totally decadent. I would definitely return."

  • "We were on holiday in Oxnard, and a friend recommended this kosher restaurant to us. It was a real find. We preceded dinner with a tour of the winery and a wine-tasting session. The restaurant was not busy, and the service and ambience were excellent. Although the menu for dinner is quite limited in scope, the cuisine is first class. My wife chose the soup de jour (portion was a bit small, and a touch too spicy for her taste) followed by the halibut dish which was outstanding. I chose the duck appetiser ( divine) followed by one of the best rib-eye steaks I have eaten. Very helpful waiter assisted with advice on best wines to have to match our food. We were then both too sated to sample the desserts."

  • "The chef at Tierra Sur is a perfectionist and it shows. Everything is top quality, inventively prepared, and a feast for the eyes as well as the palate. We go there whenever we're in the area and have never been disappointed. Lovely wine bar/gift shop/lobby, too!"

  • "We had a great experience at the Tierra Sur Restaurant. The service was impeccable, unlike I've ever seen. The food was delicious and we also got our food very fast. They were so accomodating when we wanted to split a plate. It wasalso interesting to be able to see the chefs working (quietly) white we were eating. I had bought a groupon, so got a free wine tasting. It was my first ever wine tasting, and was very enjoyable. I would definitely come back if we are in this area again."

  • "This is the 2nd time I have been to this restaurant. Both times the food was very very good. I have had now roasted chicken (best I ever had) and a short rib dinner - excellent. The setting, while interesting, needs a little updating. The prices are high without doubt. For me, it is a restaurant to go to for special occasions only."

  • "I was looking forward to dining here and was disappointed to discover that, on Fridays, they only offer a limited menu. Rather limited. We may try it again in the future, on another day of the week. It is difficult to get lunch within an "office lunch" break. It seems laid out more for more senior executive diners with time to spare. Still, the food we had was good. Just perhaps not what we would have ordered had the full menu been available."
