Diner Reviews
  • "The best dishes on the menu are seafood. Freshness, presentation, and preparation are top notch. When most people leave hotels to eat, we recommend you stay."

  • "Awesome find for my dinner guests! We were able to get a last minute reservation no problem and the place is just beautiful. There didnt seem to be a bad table in the place since every angle has a view! We all had a different local fish dish which were stunning and cooked to perfection. Great appetizers and wine list. I hope to go back. The only thing I didn't love were the fact the special cocktails were $16 (ouch). I don't pay over $12 in NY and the entree prices were a bit high. Otherwise, it was a delight."

  • "We went to Tidepools for our 20th wedding anniversary. The service was outstanding, the food and wine were perfect, and the setting was quite romantic. They dealt with my wife's nut allergy very well and made adjustments as necessary. It was a terrific dinner on a perfect night to celebrate 20 years of marriage. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for great food, service, and location. We walked the grounds afterwards for a special treat."

  • "Food was amazing Service was on point and the view was breathe taking We were on our honeymoon and we could have not picked a better restaurant Thank you for a memorable dining experience"

  • "From the moment we were escorted to the best table to our waitress wishing us a happy anniversary, our experience was excellent. My Mahi Mahi was perfection. Loved it."

  • "This is a perfect place to celebrate special occasions. We received a happy anniversary card and a complimentary Hot Lava Cake, yum! Andy, our very helpful server, took our picture at our lagoon-side table. The Hawaiian catch dinner was outstanding as was the brulee'd mango salad and scallop appetizer. Lovely setting, delicious food, great service."

  • "Myself and my husband had a beautiful dinner in possible one of the nicest settings for a restaurant in the world, we are celebrating our honeymoon and staff welcomed us and gave us a lovely table overlooking the pond. Our server was polite knowledgeable and we ordered his recommendations. Wow wow wow we both had different fish dishes and they were truly outstanding , we have eaten in Michelin starred restaurants which didn't compare to tidepools. Thank you all so much and we hope to return to kauai and tidepools soon"

  • "Lets get right to it. Ordered the crab, terrible ($40). Salad was good. Had to wait to be seated. Notified them it was my 25th Anniversary and the put us next to a family with little kids and a baby! Baby went off a few times. Looked around the restaurant and there were better places to put us. Donderos up the hill is a much better choice for your money and is still right at the Hyatt. Remember please, I only had this dish, other dishes may be fantastic. Check other reviews for these dishes."

  • "My husband and I ate here for our 1 year anniversary dinner and had an amazing time! We weren't staying at the Hyatt, and drove there from Kapa'a that night. We were pretty tired and had a later reservation so we were questioning our decision on the way there, but it was WELL worth the drive. Everything was lovely; a perfect & unique setting and delicious food! Since it was our anniversary, the amazing chocolate lava cake was on the house, and we really appreciated that generous gesture! Our only regret was we forgot to get a photo of us together- next time, because we will be back! :)"

  • "Excellent service and beautiful scenery. This was perfect for a special occasion dinner. I read some reviews beforehand that said the food was just so-so, but everything we tried was excellent. Great wine list too."

  • "The setting is lovely and the Hyatt property itself is quite nice. We arrived early to our reservations and were seated promptly. Our server was excellent. Out two teenagers were happy with their meals and it was a different menu lots of fish choices. Would recommend but not for little kids!"

  • "Great ambiance, great service, quiet and romantic. The crab cake appetizer was great. The fish seemed just average at best. The presentation of the dishes was great. My wife had the Macadamia Nut Crusted Mahi Mahi for $38 which did not have very much flavor. I had the Volcano Spiced Opah for $ 40 which was also lacking in flavor. I expected something more special for the prices."

  • "I made this reservation for our anniversary while staying at the Hyatt thinking it would be a romantic night but was very disappointed . Service was terrible, waitress never came back to ask if we wanted another drink. Food was nothing special. We actually had a nicer meal and had our anniversary celebrated much more at a restaurant in Maui."

  • "My wife was very happy with her meal, I was not (lobster tail over salted, fish cold). They took my meal out of the cheque. Nice view over a pond full of Koi fishes."

  • "Wonderful views and the food matches the views! Service was impeccable, friendly and knowledgeable ."

  • "I really enjoyed my meal at Tidepools. Fortunately, I knew going in that it would be pricy, so I didn't experience sticker shock. I went with my family of four, including kids ages 5 and 7. The Keiki menu was really nice, with real meal options and not just the usual chicken tenders and Mac and cheese. The drinks were tasty, but not very strong for $10 each. My kula lavender steak was amazing. Very succulent and with wonderful hints of favors. My wife was disappointed in her macadamia nut crusted Mahdi, as it was dry and somewhat tasteless to her palate. That' style only thing keeping this from being a 5-star review. Overall, a very good experience."

  • "It was a nice place for a dinner in the middle of a rather busy hotel. The food was good as was the service."

  • "We had a table overlooking the tide pool and the ocean. It was great. Our server was knowledgeable and the food was great. The 4 of us had a grand and very special evening. I had a prime rib and lobster combo and both the items were very good. The wine was also excellent. We shared deserts that were also great. Not cheap but worth it if in kauai in the Poipu area."

  • "When my husband and I came here two years ago we were amazed by how good the food was. This time around, we were amazed by how bad the food was. The quality of everything has gone way down, however the prices remain as high as ever. I'm so disappointed in the food we ate. The porterhouse steak topped with blue cheese was horrible. The filet was just ok. Don't waste your time or money here. The only good thing about this place is the bread and butter they serve before dinner."

  • "Great food and beautiful setting. Loved sitting so close to the koi pond."

  • "We had a beautiful table overlooking the koi pond where the lively fish kept us entertained! The table was ready when we got there and the waiter was right there to take our orders and kept on top of everything. Our group of 7 had appetizers, soup, salad and main course and we all had to share a bite so we could all see how great everyone's was! The food cameo it quickly too and that's a plus with teenagers! Wonderful meal!!!"

  • "I booked this over a month before our visit and did not get a table right next to the window with a nice view. Very disappointed! We were staying at the Hyatt but I booked though open table. Although food and service was good, we spent our honeymoon there and this was out first trip back for our 20th anniversary. I noted that it was our anniversary trip and was so disappointed that we got a bad table."

  • "The restaurant is built on top of a koi pond. You should sit near one of the windows, they open and the fish swim by in schools and sometimes they feed them. Even at night you can see them thanks to the tiki torches. The ocean is not far away and the rhythmic sound of the waves makes a nice background and heightens the romantic scene. The food was outstanding and the service was quite good. This is an excellent place for a romantic dinner."

  • "I was skeptical since this restaurant is part of the Grand Hyatt. Yes, the food is expensive, but the ambiance, quality, presentation, and local-ness is unmatched. The seafood was extremely fresh and well presented. A great flair for uniquely Hawaiian flavors. The service was very friendly as well. Be sure to check out any fish specials they may have."

  • "We made a reservation day of for six people on our last night in Kauai and were seated at the private table in the middle of the koi pond. It was an excellent location - I only wish we were there for more sunlight - and the food was superb. We got luckier when a corporate group also put on a fireworks show right as we finished dessert. Overall, a really great experience."

  • "We love going to the Tidepools when we visit Kauai. The appetizers are delicious and enjoyed the prime rib. "

  • "We read positive reviews about this place but were dissappointed. The setting is beautiful and we were lucky enough to be seated in the gazebo over the koi pond. The service was good, although the waitress raved about so much on the menu that nothing stood out and her recommendations lacked credibility. The bar was pretty much empty when we arrived a little before 7 pm on a Wednesday. It never did fill up and there were many empty tables. The food was good, definitely better than average, but nothing over the top special."

  • " We requested a table away from the fountain and next to the lagoon when we made the reservations . We had to wait 30 minutes because they didn't have a table ready for us, then they seated us right next to the fountain ( didn't want to sit here because read from other reviews that it was loud) we asked them to seat us some where else. Obviously they don't read the Open Table notes other than time of reservation when they get them. They didn't even know what special occasion we were celebrating until they asked us."

  • "The prime rib was tender and tasty. The asparagus was al dente and delicious and the mashed potatoes were the best I've ever eaten! All for one price: $42. What a deal. We'd pay extra for the sides at other restaurants of this caliber. We had to wait a bit for the food to arrive (what a beautiful place to wait), but when it did, it was hot. This place lived up to their Yelp rating. Way to go, guys."

  • "Tide pools was an amazing experience-- we went on the last night of our trip to Kauai and it left us with such fond memories that we can't wait to go back. Our server was Jocelyn, and she was polite and friendly and absolutely great in every way. We enjoyed the mushroom appetizer, the New York steak and the Hawaiian catch with the flour less chocolate cake for dessert... And we left very satisfied. Overall it was so good it would be impossible to pick a favorite part. Tidepools is worth every penny-- shouldn't be missed!"

  • "Some of the old favs are still on the menu, but the new items are all tempting. And, the presentations were fresh and exciting. Our veteran server Andy was very anxious to show-off the new items and new presentations. Always dined here every trip and the place moved up a whole notch. We dined on fresh fish, ahi poke, ceviche. Nice choice of small or larger wine by the glass. We had a chance to say hi to another server, Marta, who has delighted us with great, personable service in past years."
