Diner Reviews
  • "We loved it, but, as with most expensive restaurants, portions were very small for the price. Our server was fantastic."

  • "We return to this restaurant every year to enjoy the food and setting. Not necessarily easy for those with strollers or who need assistance walking due to many steps but worth the effort. Our friend has difficulty seeing a night so she was concerned about getting back up the stairs in the dark, but the manager cheerfully allowed us to use a freight elevator to manage our return to the resort entrance. We always enjoy our time here"

  • "We went to Tidepools in the evening and it was dark. Lighting in the restaurant was so poor we could hardly read the menu. Food was acceptable but nothing special. We had a nice table near the waterfall, but again it was so dark that we couldn't really enjoy the environment. Service was good, but again nothing notably special."

  • "The most romantic, Polynesian setting, with excellent cuisine."

  • "We had the opah and monchong both are fish dishes. They were cooked to perfection, moist and flakey. For dessert we had the white chocolate bombe and the pear tart, both were delecious."

  • "Overall food was good. Crab cake were excellent. Mahi Mahi was good but not good enough to validate the price. Roys would have been a better choice. Waiter was friendly but never once checked back once we had our food, although they were not busy as we were seated at 5:30 PM when they opened for dinner."

  • "My wife and I were celebrating our 27th anniversary. We were looking for a nice place for dinner for this special occasion. Friends recommended Tidepools and we enjoyed it very much. The food was very good and the service excellent."

  • "What a wonderful contrast to all you can eat crowded luau the night before. Dinner for two by koi pond, waterfall, & view of ocean. Great location especially since we stayed at Hyatt. Great waiter and great food, perfectly cooked. Do not miss the hot lava cake a la mode to end the evening so don't eat too many hot rolls to start out and split the salad."

  • "IThe Tidepools Restaurant is everything one expects from an evening of fine dining - great food, great service, and great atmosphere."

  • "The atmosphere was fun and scenic. The food was great. My wife had a fun time feeding the fish and birds."

  • "This restaurant is lovely, wonderful ambience, traditional Hawaiian décor, water views. The food and service were terrific, too. However, our party of four was seated by the waterfall and, between the din of a party of eight nearby, the rushing water, and the loud drumming from the Luau, the noise level was unbearably deafening. After struggling through dinner, we asked to be moved to a quieter part of the restaurant. Once in our new and, thankfully, tranquil spot, we finally managed to enjoy some quiet conversation and relax in the beautiful surroundings. We have dined at Tidepools before and had a great experience and hope to visit again in the future. However, we will be sure to ask for a quiet table next time."

  • "We reserved a table for dinner around the time of sunset. It was very romantic and quaint. Everything was great tasting, especially the crab-cakes! The portion size was a little small for the price. Other than that everything was superb!"

  • "The staff at Tidepools was wonderful from the hostess to the servers to the bus backs.....everyone was so friendly and sincere. The setting with the waterfall and water features was very soothing and peaceful. We had a fabulous crab cake appetizer and the fresh fist was very well prepared. To celebrate a birthday or special occasion, this is a perfect place where you will leave very satisfied and content. Thank you Tidepools!"

  • "I guess expecting a good dining experience at a resort shouldn't be. Pictures looked inviting and it is the Grand Hyatt, but all in all a let down. Our waiter opened our wine, which we asked him to let it cool before pouring. Never saw the waiter again, my husband poured our wine all through dinner. The waiter did reappear with a glass of his own, which we had offered him a taste when we had ordered. The macadamia crusted Mahi Mahi was the hit of the evening!! Stay away from resorts for an overall good dining experience."

  • "Relatively good food (for a resort). View was nice and service was good. Food and price was okay, but when stuck in a resort, this is what one should expect."

  • "The staff, food, ambience were all very good. Both my wife and I, plus 15 year olds found selections to their liking and we were made welcome as a family. Nice touch to provide a desert for us as complimentary."

  • "Short and sweet, this was our first date and we wanted it to be special. It turned out to be perfect and we have Tidepools to thank for that. Couldn't have asked for anything more. We had the perfect table, an awesome waiter, and outstanding food. I honestly don't have a single complaint. Finished off the evening with a romantic stroll around the pool. Can't wait to go again."

  • "This restaurant was top notch in service and food quality. However we did find it a little noisy since we were close to 3 big group tables. If you want more of a romantic mood ask to be seated further away from group tables."

  • "Absolutely fantastic!! Enjoyed everything about the restaurant.....food, service, ambience."

  • "We had great service, and the ambiance was very relaxing and inviting. A great place for to eat for a special occasion. Food was good, but a bit pricey."

  • "We had four different fish dishes and they were all superb. It was our best meal in Hawaii. Drinks were great also."

  • "Had dinner here our last night to cap off a great stay at the Hyatt. The meals and service were both top notch. The ambience was quiet but not stuffy. Our server was knowledgable friendly and helpful. Had a great table next to the koi ponds with tropical breezes wafting in. Our meals were both fish dishes prepared and presented very well. She had sea bass and I had opah. Crab cakes for opener more like lump crab again done very well. Wine list broad enough and a reasonable Sonoma coast pinot paired well with the food and preparation. Mentioned our 30th wedding anniversary and the waiter brought us a dessert gratis. While not inexpensive, I thought the cost commensurate with the quality of our dinner. We also did not leave hungry!"

  • "While the views are lovely, the joy ends there. After being 'greeted' by a less than interested hostess, and specifically asking for a quiet table away from kids, we were seated next to a party of 10--6 of which were kids (under the age of 6). We asked for a table on the water, but that was 'reserved'--though the manager confirmed later no tables can be reserved. Prices are not only high, but outrageous--The tuna while very fresh had no seasoning/flavor for $40. Charging $16 for 3 shrimp and less than a full strip of bacon is ridiculous.Don't waste your money if you're trying to have a romantic night. Stroll the grounds--the view is just as good. Definitely not giving our money to this Hyatt ever again."

  • "I enjoyed our meal here as most everything was good. Two of us had the fish special and it was seriously over cooked. This after the waiter said this was a delicate fish and the kitchen was very careful in ensuring it was cooked perfectly. I couldn't eat the fish but the shrimp cake and sweet potato purée were exceptional. The lobster tail, in contrast, was still translucent and undercooked but tasty. Given the other options on the island, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come again."

  • "Wonderful ambience with waterfall and fish pond. Well prepared food with good service. A restaurant that I always eat at when visiting Kauai."

  • "We were there on Valentine's Day and had the crab cakes and lobster bisque to start, which was truly to die for! We both ordered the Hawaiian catch for the main meal and was not let down.... This was a taste of heaven in your mouth! Shared the chocolate soufflé for dessert..... Baked perfectly! Our waiter was awesome, and you cannot beat the setting anywhere else on Kauai. 5 star rating all around... We will definitely go back some day!"

  • "If you want to dine somewhere special and treat your significant other to an evening of delicious food and romantic ambiance, this is the place to be. We booked a table in Tidepools to celebrate our Aloha wedding and we were not disappointed. It was really hard to choose from the menu because everything sounded delicious. We had crab cake to share for starter, I had Hawaiian Catch for main and my partner had Sword Fish. Everything was perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. Lava cake for dessert was delectable."

  • "This restaurant is a jem. Next time we will arrive earlier so we can enjoy the garden setting more. Great food and innovative. Service was a bit slow but overall we will go back. Our next favorite reasturant of the 5 we dined at was casa de Amici. More casual and great Italian food."

  • "this was our best tasting food on our trip. Our service was excellent except for the fact that appetizer was brought out very fast and dinner immediately after appetizer was done. Same for dessert. The restaurant was great personalizing a dessert. For a fine restaurant with nice ambiance I felt rushed."

  • "We enjoyed going back to Tidepools as the service is always great as well as the food. We used to go to another restraint on the island for our "special night out" dinner, but after finding Tidepools, we go there instead. Feels like a special oasis on an already incredible island!"

  • "The recent reviews were hit or miss, with many noting slow service and inconsistent. Our experience overall was good. Service was a little slow to start, but our waiter went out of his way to make up for it. The food turned out to be one of our better meals during the vacation."
    Dined on 2/7/2014
  • "My wife and I really enjoyed our meal here, but the service was nonexistent. Took our order, disappeared, and then magically re appeared with our bill. Not the kind of attention you'd expect at such a nice place."

  • "Tide Pools is a lovely restaurant with excellent food. Our waiter was attentive and seemed like a nice man. The fish was a tiny bit dry, but overall the meal was excellent. The salad was dressed perfectly....lightly.. The wine was reasonably priced. Very enjoyalble"
