Craft and catch converge at Tidal, perched where land meets sea on the shores of Mission Bay. At the helm is Chef Amy DiBiase, curating a thoughtful selection of local seafood and craft beverages that, like the ever changing tides, shift seasonally at Mother Nature’s whim. Anchored by deep Mediterranean influences, Chef Amy presents modern, light adaptations of traditional seafood dishes such as olive oil poached halibut, ricotta gnudi and chicken confit. Keeping in even keel with the kitchen, the bar offers an impressive collection of boutique wine, San Diego craft beers and mixed drinks by cocktail craftsmen Snake Oil.

Set in what was a private beach house in the 60s, Tidal’s mid-century modern design draws from the era it was built by Hollywood producer Jack Skirball. A fire pit-dotted deck, communal tables, and cozy lounge beckon casual group gatherings and lively conversation — though the 180° views of Mission Bay might just leave you at a loss for words.

After eating a fabulous dinner on Sunday evening, we declared it to be our new "go-to restaurant". It serves innovate, delicious food without pretension in a gorgeous setting overlooking Mission Bay. As an added bonus - it is easy to get to and has ample parking."

  • "Snuggled at the end of tree-shaded lanes in San Diego's Paradise Resort is Tidal. Title doesn't tell all! Reserving for dinner based entirely on web info, we arrived curious. We shared the featured Venus Clams, which were delightfully tender and tasty. We also shared a sheep milk cheese which came with nut bread, walnuts, jam and sliced pear. This was followed by a whole, wood-roasted, beautifully seasoned, fish. No room for dessert, even when offered as my birthday gift! Ambiance, marina-neighborly. Service, including a call to ask for seating preference, was intelligent, watchful and fun. Misstep? Too little cheese on cheese plate."

  • "One of the top spots for sunset dining in SD! The revamp looks great, and the setting right on Mission Bay is lovely. The new menu has French influences and everything we had at dinner last weekend was delicious. Try the Paducah Punch if you like cocktails that are on the sweet side. We had the sourdough epi bread, potted pig (basically pork rillettes), Venus clams, and stone crab pasta. All were excellent but the pasta was especially delicious, light and flavorful and not an overlarge portion size."

  • " The food was fabulous, but not worth the frustration. I ordered one glass of wine and was never asked if I would like a second one. It was my 50th birthday dinner, and the restaurant was aware. My husband ordered coffee after dinner and then the waiter was gone, without asking if I would like a cup as well. A bit odd.... My daughter and I ordered the cheesecake, but it never came. Our waiter checked a few times, but couldn't get the dessert from the kitchen. It was bizarre and we left, without coffee and without dessert. I'll celebrate my birthday back home in Houston."

  • "Could not be more pleasantly surprised with the greeting, service, food, atmosphere, view… you name it! To celebrate my wife's birthday, we decided to try a new place. Tidal has been open for about a year and ahalf - relatively short time - but because of the location and other helpful reviews, we went full speed ahead. We started with the 3-cheese appetizers and did not expect so many great flavors and combinations. great recomendations from our server. For the main dish we tried the pork cheeks... highly recommended... just delicious; and for desert, the crustless espresso cheescake. WOW!!! We can't wait to go back... definately need to spread the word about this hidden treassure"

  • "I am a former resident, flew in from Australia and needed a last minute reservation for dinner on a very busy weekend night. All of the "usual" downtown or on the ocean front dining options were booked. Such a great experience and surprising find. I arrived early enough for a water front outside table for two and could not have been more pleased. The waiter was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the menu and wine selections, was attentive and also gave us plenty of space and time for a long chatty catch up dinner with a friend. Heirloom tomato and bread salad, fish in paper and halibut were all exquisitely seasoned. The view on the water and view of the sunset was so satisfying. Everything you want in San Diego waterfront dining."

  • "My husband and I thought it might be fun to play tourist in our own city and landed at Tidal in Vacation Village. It felt a little like being in Hawaii, ao that was fun. The restaurant has a gorgeous view and we were there while the sun set. The cheese plate was very yummy as was the bread salad. Our entrees were merely OK after being raved about by our server. My husband's crab pasta was very salty and my lobster gnudi was pretty bland and boring. Each of these entrees was around $30 so it was a bit disappointing, although they were generous portions."

Our server was knowledgable about the cheese and wine list- he also didn't rush us and let us enjoy our appetizers before placing our dinner orders. We got the strawberry rubarb tart for dessert, which I would highly recommend. The atmosphere was fun but still private. Overall a great experience!"

  • "It is our go to spot especially for special occasions. I reserved a table for 6 for Brunch. When we got there they told us that they were backed-up because of unexpected larger parties that had come prior to our arrival. A staff person called to confirm our reservation the day before, so of course we were all upset! I had actually tried to book online a dinner reservation, but the online reservation site stated that there was nothing available for 8 weeks out for the time that my party of six was interested in-- between 5PM and 7PM. An irritated couple waiting with us who were staying at the hotel told us that they had walked over to dinner on the night I tried to book and there was no one on the patio!!"

  • "We were quickly seated to a table which had a window view which we had requested. We started with a salad and the board which came with sour dough bread, herb flavored butter, and beet-humus which was excellent. I ordered the salmon wellington which was served in a pastry shell and it was superb...one of the best dishes I've ever had in my life."

  • "our waiter was very good and kind, attentive staff. Mussels were delicious. the best I have had. No bread was given for the table until we asked for it. Didn't know that there was a charge for bread. Ambiance beautiful looking out over the bay. Manager made sure all was good at all of the tables. It was our 49th wedding anniversary and we mentioned it three different times but not a big deal made of it. No problem."

  • "I wanted this to be special for my fiance for Fathers Day. His napkin was crumpled and stained. I pointed it out to the server who brought us one from the inside area, red and white, and it was also stained but clean, and we just let it go. I was already embarrassed by the lack of attention to something so basic and had wanted everything to be special for my fiance and didn't want to make it a bigger deal. The server acted like it was business as usual. I thought he should have rushed to get a replacement and certainly have made sure the replacement was acceptable. A negative first impression. The food was very good but expensive relative to the apparently casual lack of attention to guests."

  • "Fabulous view from wherever you sit. Great decor..modern,warm, hip and perfect lighting. Started with shared plates: olives -served warm from their wood fired oven & then shrimp & scallops..delicious! Entree: chicken confit..out of this world! It is cooked in duck fat and then finished in a 700 degree wood fired oven served w/madeira sauce that contains chicken liver..the sauce was unbelievable. One of our friends had the scallops which she loved...I tried a bite and it was wonderful. Not salty like scallops tend to be, but silky and perfectly seasoned with herbs. The wine list is nicely organized, but they need to add the year to their wines on this list. We're going back next week to try more."

  • "We were devoted patrons of Baleen from the time it opened, for the menu, service and ambiance. The ambiance remains in Tidal, but the menu is too limited to have much appeal generally, the "hummus tray had scrumptious bread, herbed butter and olive oil, but hummus that bore no resemblance to what we had expected. Mussels appetizer delicious; poached halibut melt-in-the-mouth, but with only one salad offered and the so-called asparagus accompaniment with the halibut, Suggest more salad options available to make the menu more acceptable. Also, service was quite slow. We weren't in a hurry, but our dinners didn't arrive piping hot."

  • "The newly remodeled TIDAL is beautiful…..The bright and open floor plan yields great ambience…but that is not why we go to restaurants…. It is the FOOD and the SERVICE….that make the event enjoyable and memorable. Both were outstanding…. TIDAL does not disappoint. We had dinner for 4 at sunset… One caveat…You may like the fancy drinks……It was not my cup of tea….so I had a Long Island…. the rest is (great) history. GO……ENJOY….REPEAT."

  • "We ordered scallops, which tasted like a bad chemical and lingered in our sinuses. We NEVER return food, but we could not eat them so we asked for chicken, which came w/a Madeira reduction: yay! We dipped some chicken and gagged. The menu doesn't mention it's a LIVER gravy. The manager/hostess explained "it's delicious" and "different tastes are what make the world go round." Really? A LOT of people HATE LIVER and the menu should mention it. She got us gravy without liver, but by then we were just grossed out. The bread (they charge for) was like a baseball bat, served w/fruity butter that wasn't great. We asked for regular butter: it had refrigerator burn and tasted terrible. The upside down cake was basically a dried out muffin."

  • "This unexpected gem at a more low key resort is a true winner. The chef succeeds in making everything on her small menu sparkle. We tried the pork cheeks on the menu and were suprised with rich favors and very tender meat. Even breakfast was outstanding - we returned twice for the best crab egg benedict we ever had."

  • "We went for Memorial Day brunch on the beautiful patio overlooking the bay. There was live music playing next door at Barefoot and it set the scene for a gorgeous day. The food was phenomenal, fresh oysters, a shrimp and scallop cocktail and farmers market crudites started us off. All were so fresh with clean flavors and just the right seasonings. I finished with the top sirloin steak and eggs while my husband had the brunch burger. Both left us more than satisfied! Delicious and generous portions for the price. With bottomless mimosa's for $11, with GOOD champagne and an optional self serve PBR cooler, this is easily the best deal in town for great food and fun with a view! Our server was awesome too, we'll definitely be back. :)"

  • "My husband and I were celebrating our Anniversay and were treated like royalty ! We sat next to the water so as to see the sunset. They had multiple heaters lit which took away the slight chill in the air. The hostess checked on us many times, even offering a blanket if the heater wasn't enough. Our waiter was fabulous ! From suggesting wine to bringing a surprise Anniversary dessert to checking on us multiple times, I don't think they could have done any better!"

  • "We had dinner for the first time at tidal. The food was excellent. We enjoyed the bread with beet humus and fennel orange butter and one cheese selection (a brie). Both were very good, and the cheese plate had nice accompaniments. We shared a green salad, which was dressed perfectly, with just the right amount of salt and pepper. Shared a poached halibut for dinner, which was very good, moist, and a nice serving size. Overall, we had a great evening, enjoyed the sunset waterside. "

  • "The menu was very limited. I normally prefer steak when I dine at high end restaurants but the only one available was a top sirloin so I opted for the halibut which was very good, although served a little cold. I also enjoy a martini with my meal but the vodka selection was also very limited. We ate here last year and were very impressed but it turns out it just re-opened as Tidal and so I have to say I was a little disappointed. The location though is still incredible and the service was very good. I wish them well and I think with a larger food and beverage selection they could do very well. "

  • "I am a fan of chef Amy DiBiase so I was somewhat puzzled by the location inside an old Mission Bay resort. Now that I have visited, I cannot wait to go back and take all my friends! Food was delicious. View was great. Kids had beach access. Staff was anxious to please. Wine list was short but full of intriguing options- great consultation from Todd, the F&B manager on after dinner drinks to complement the butterscotch pot de creme. Paradise Point is an oasis. Felt like I was visiting a Maui resort, not 10 minutes from my house. We had an amazing view of the sunset from our table. This is not full of hipsters, thank goodness. Crowd was understated, intent on the quality of the food and had a relaxed vibe. I highly recommend it!"

  • "I truly wanted to love it, sadly,disappointed.Mothers Day brunch - $55.00 pp. Live in SDiego, have always loved this location. View can't be beat. Server was very kind/friendly , a bit slow, informed us she was new. Meal hit and miss. I ordered my main course (crab Benedict with "runny,soft yolk"). ALL entrees came Luke warm at best after long wait , mine was room temp. Sitting too long to come out? Other diners seated after us had faster servers/service. Benedict sent back. Second order came hot but solid, hard yolk. Pet peeve, a $55 brunch chef who can't poach an egg properly to order! I had already made husbands July bday dinner reservations here for future, having second thoughts. I think I'll give it one more try. I want to love it!"

  • "... to enjoy Tidal! In fact, if you live in San Diego, I recommend you get over to Paradise Point and enjoy one of San Diego's best new restaurants. The menu was interesting, the food was incredible, service was great, and the views spectacular. We started with the Farmers Crudité, Sourdough bread, and Olives. The crudité was varied, fresh, and beautifully presented with delicious dipping sauces. The bread, served with beet humus, and the olives were equally as good. My husband had the whole fish, and I had the scallops. Both were incredible. To bad this restaurant is located in what is considered a tourist only destination. Many San Diegans will miss out on one of San Diego's best restaurants unless they make the trip to Paradise Point."

  • "My local buddies, don't let the vacationers have all the fun! Gorgeous atmosphere, easy access, free parking in the true "paradise setting!" Great local craft beers, and local wines! The poached Halibut was delicious! One of the best top sirloins we've ever had with a light flavoring of blue cheese. The prep was perfect! Loved our smart and attentive waiter, Steven! He had great recommendations including the Morgon wine ( a red that works nicely with fish!) and we loved it. This is the old Baleen and they have done a great job with their new style, menu and great staff! Still one of the best places in the world to hang out! Barefoot bar is right next door and makes another great stop for night caps! Wonderful!"

  • "The best thing about Baleen is the location. It is located RIGHT on Mission Bay with a stunning view at night from the terrace. The food missed the target. The multiple dishes that we had lacked flavor, inspiration, and balance. There were a lot of options on the menu. It is many times better to be able to execute a smaller number of dishes well than to not be able to execute a lot of dishes at all. Service was tolerable for San Diego standards. The server was not familiar with the menu and how the items were prepared. There were long spells where the server appeared to be missing from the floor. I am not impressed."
