A word from Tico
Tico, Michael Schlow's award-winning venture, located at 222 Berkely St (corner of St James) is casual, fun, inviting, energized and energizing. The restaurant has a personal, somewhat eclectic, "found" feel, with lots of reclaimed wood and unusual pieces. Perfect for friends that want to share cool cocktails, plates of tasty, sometimes spicy food, while listening to great music, in a fast, uncomplicated restaurant that provides knowledgeable, quick, playful service.
The restaurant has an open kitchen with 6 stools right on the counter to watch all the action. It also boasts a large bar, dining room for 100, a chef's table, and a lush outdoor courtyard that features a fireplace, dining for 50, as well as some "soft" seating near the fire if guests wish to be outside for a drink or snack.

I had a group of out of town visitors with various dietary restrictions and called ahead to make sure that the member of our party who eats gluten-free would have more than one dish to choose from. The knowledgeable waitress guided us through the menu and made recommendations. Everyone swooned when the dishes started arriving. This is truly a wonderful restaurant. The small plates concept is often frustrating -- it's difficult to know what you're getting, how many plates for a group to share, etc. None of those frustrations at Tico! The dishes were exactly as described, exceeded everyone's expectations, and the dinner was a huge success. Make sure to try the goat's milk cheese cake!

We enjoyed the food at Tico. As mentioned by other reviewers, the small plates and tacos are in fact, small plates. It's good food, but the size is as advertised, so set your expectations accordingly.

The four of us were treated well by the staff and the ambiance was great. But make no mistake about it, the star here is the menu. We ordered eight different tapas to start and each one blew us away more than the next. After the first rounds, we ordered four more and only stopped to save the tire pressure in the taxi afterward. When is mac and cheese or corn a highlight of a menu influenced by South American, Mexican or Spain? At Tico's and we'll all run back as soon as we can.

Good service, good selection, and the food was excellent. We were originally seated near the bar, under a loudspeaker, and couldn't hear ourselves think. After being reseated away from the bar it was better, but only because the speaker closest to us was broken. Go for the food, but be prepared to yell to your dinner guests.

We went to dinner here - Cocktails were good - highly recommend Tale of Two Cities. We ordered small plates - Shrimp Ceviche, Chicken wings - spicy and delicious, chorizo risotto - my fave, Roasted cauliflower - the best of our evening, Calamari - the usual type. For dessert we had Tres Leches Cake - excellent and the bittersweet chocolate tart - nothing special. Would recommend.

The food at Ticos was delicious and came out super fast which was awesome as we were having a "working" dinner. We order the Jonah Crab Tostada twice! because it was so crunchy and full of flavor. We then order the shrimp and lobster tacos which had just enough spice to add to their flavor. Dessert cookies were OK.

Great atmosphere and large space which is great for big groups. Small plates are ideal for sharing with the table. The music was questionable but they changed it almost immediately when asked which was very nice. The wait staff was friendly and on top of the water and drinks, not a lot of waiting. It seems too many celebrity chefs mail it in, as their empires grow. Not so with Michael Schlow. The food at Tico takes center stage, with the freshest ingredients. The lobster and avocado tacos were perfect for a hot summer day: light and loaded with zesty flavor. The outdoor patio provided a delightful spot for a truly enjoyable lunch.

Delicious food - tried the tasting menu and it was a ton of food! (the middle option of the 3 priced levels) My only complaint was that the dishes drifted farther and farther away from Mexican flavors as the night progressed, ending with a fried or roast chicken served on top roast potatoes and broccollini - it was good but tasted like it abandoned Mexico at the border. Service was excellent (Mark, I think? Tall, fit, short shaved/sculpted black hair, Latin background I'm guessing). Had reservations and was seated right away on a Friday night. I highly recommend.

Have been to Tico many times and have always loved the food. This past experience was notable due to the exceptional service we were given by Michael. I was out with a friend who I had not seen in a while so we lingered for some time after eating just to chat. Michael was infinitely patient with us, never once seeming annoyed as other servers might have been with that table that "just won't leave"! Only thing about Tico that could be perceived negatively is that the noise level is high. I actually like it though as I think it makes it more kid friendly...the louder the better!

The food is outstanding. The service is very good. The soundtrack blaring from multiple speakers ruined the evening. Why rap and hip-hop? I asked the hostess if the music would continue like this all night. She said, "it's a very eclectic mix of songs". I could barely hear my dinner partner (we were at a table for two). I've had much better experiences there at lunch when the soundtrack is not as annoying.

I have been to Tico twice in the last two weeks and I can say the same thing for each visit - the food was good, the service was horrific. It takes forever for you to get your servers attention because they have so many tables to watch over. One person takes drinks, one person takes food order, another brings your stuff, another checks in, another comes over to ask you if you want more food, and yet another takes your drink order - then someone totally different brings you the wrong drinks...and even with that many people waiting on you, it is impossible to get someone's attention! The food comes out within minutes of you ordering it...and you have to wait 20 minutes for a drink, which tastes like watered down lemonade (margaritas = bad)

We stopped in on whim one day while in Boston. Good food, nice servers but the best part was the little outdoor dining section. We sat in front of the outdoor fireplace and had drinks and lunch. It was great! The pork tacos and the pulled pork sandwich were very tasty. The tacos were a little small so if you are starving order two orders (four tacos altogether), but really good!

Went for lunch and got 5 different pairs of tacos (for 3 people). Food is pretty good, but just too small portions (hence ordering 10 tacos total). We all left hungry and with empty wallets. Definitely too pricy to make it a frequent lunch spot with friends or colleagues.
