A word from Tico
Tico, Michael Schlow's award-winning venture, located at 222 Berkely St (corner of St James) is casual, fun, inviting, energized and energizing. The restaurant has a personal, somewhat eclectic, "found" feel, with lots of reclaimed wood and unusual pieces. Perfect for friends that want to share cool cocktails, plates of tasty, sometimes spicy food, while listening to great music, in a fast, uncomplicated restaurant that provides knowledgeable, quick, playful service.
The restaurant has an open kitchen with 6 stools right on the counter to watch all the action. It also boasts a large bar, dining room for 100, a chef's table, and a lush outdoor courtyard that features a fireplace, dining for 50, as well as some "soft" seating near the fire if guests wish to be outside for a drink or snack.

Went to Tico for quick meal before a show as we only had 45min to eat. Service and food were fast. Food was overall average. Very expensive for the tiny bites we received. Left the restaurant hungry after $100. Chicken skewers are a ripoff. Shrimp taco was tasty. Kale salad average. Brussel sprouts and cauliflower average. Overall service was good, food average, price outrageous.

We had a group of 7, celebrating a birthday. We all enjoyed the ambiance and the food. Service was good, we got a variety of dishes to share and liked them all. I know that some other reviewers found the music too loud but for us, the noise level was fine and the music added to the evening. We all agreed that it was a restaurant we would be happy to return to.

Went for Valentine's Day and the service was great- very attentive and friendly. Food was very good and served quickly- smaller portions because it is "tapas" style but delicious nonetheless. Dessert was fantastic- definitely get the chocolate tart.

I recently had lunch at Tico with three of my cousins. It was an ideal meeting spot since two were coming from the North Shore, one from the West of the city and one from South of the city. We had a reservation and our table was ready when we got there. I ordered the shrimp tacos and the waiter asked if I wanted two or three, without explaining that they were small. Three of the dishes came with french fries which my cousins never had a chance to finish, because the waiter was in a hurry to clear the table and removed two of the servings of fries when he cleared the lunch plates. The sandwiches were gone, the fries weren't. We were eating them slowly. They were delicious, I should say. Overall, the experience was good, not more than that.

The small plates here are very, very good. It can get a little pricey because you tend to end up ordering more than you planned on due to the portion sizes. We got a pitcher of margaritas and it was nice to actually taste the tequila - some restaurants will skimp on it when they're serving it this way. The noise and crowded dining area is a bit challenging - might help if they broke up the room a little bit with dividers and/or some booths, but the food and drink are worth it. Ambiance is very nice too.

Had reservation for me & my gf cuz we heard great things. Showed up 15 mins early & was told to have a drink until the table was ready. We landed stool seats at the bar. Asked the bartender for a corona & he said he didn't have any when there were a few behind him. Not making a scene, I settled for a bud. Later, host says seats are ready. They were the same high stool seats but at another section. We thought we'd actually get seated at a real table especially after getting reservations & showing up early. I was turned off by that. We stayed at our bar seats, ordered food. I would go again if invited by friends, but I wouldn't go by my own choice due to that poor initial service for people who actually took the time to reserve a table.

A "vibrant bar scene" and "energetic" noise level doesn't do justice in describing TICO. Noise and music was way too loud that conversations have to be shouted out or repeated. Too bad since the food arrived fairly quickly and was good.

Went on "quiet" midweek night. Food was inventive and delicious. Service was excellent and attentive. Nonetheless, I'm not sure I will go again because the music was DEAFENING. We couldn't hear the staff describe specials. We couldn't hear each other. We couldn't hear ourselves. We asked twice (nicely) to have the music turned down. First time it went down incrementally but seemed to creep back up. Second time, we were told that this ear-blasting noise was "part of the concept" of the restaurant. Given the fact that by this time we were one of two parties left in the dining room, this seemed both inexplicably unaccommodating and unpleasantly corrective. I can handle loud, but this was absurdly--not "vibrant scene"--loud. SO disappointing.

The food here was fantastic! I would recommend trying the cauliflower dish. That was incredible! They had a great wine list that was reasonably priced with plenty of different options, as well as various beer choices and an entire list dedicated to tequilas! The atmosphere was friendly and the ambiance was energetic and fun! The service was timely, and our waitress was very friendly and most helpful when it came to recommending dishes to try. This is one of the best restaurants I've eaten at in Boston and I would highly recommend it!

I'm a fan of Tico...it's usually not hard to get a reservation, it's kind of hidden on Berkely Street. It had small plates so you can get try a bunch of different foods in one sitting. The atmosphere is energetic and it's pretty loud by the bar. It has a dark, lounge vibe. I didn't love the Mac n creae but everything else was delicious.

Chose Tico after it came highly recommended by two people who live in Boston. The atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for and after dinner we didn't want to leave so we just moved over to the bar. Being in a group of 4, we chose to order rounds of tapas and share. Everything we ordered was delicious but what stood out the most to me was the Two Textured Beef Taco. Words cannot describe how amazing this dish was. Other highly notable favorites: ceviche, grilled octopus, and muscles. Oh! And I cannot remember the actual name of the cocktail but the spicy one with ghost chilis was by the THE BEST cocktail I have ever had! I cannot wait to go back!!

My husband and I went to Tico's for our date night. We were pleasantly surprised by the large menu (sort of a tapas menu with loads of little plates) , the equally large wine and beverage list and the wonderful service. The athmosphere is rather loud with club music and the guests were mixed (old, young, all races and loads of different nationalities) which we appreciated. Every single food item was wonderfully prepared and tasted sublimely. The waiter was very polite and knowledgable. Could not be better. We are already looking forward to our next Tico visit! Thank you!

Went on a Saturday night and the place was jumping. Really lively and high energy (the music a little too loud to easily converse, but a quibble.) Staff (with the exception of one woman who had some attitude issue) was very attentive and efficient. Now the food...what great flavors! We loved all the small plates that we ordered, save the beet dish, which was pretty pedestrian. The others exploded with flavor and spice. They were fantastic, including the Manchego cheese, the spicy shrimp (very spicy!), the mushroom cheese quesadillas, the roasted cauliflower, and a terrific fried calamari. Their sauces are really tasty! Slightly pricey for what you get on the small plates, but overall a fun evening and we'll be back!

We had brunch on Saturday and when we got there, we were surprised to only see kids (running around) and their parents. A band was also packing up -maybe a kids party? We ordered the scrambled eggs/bacon/potatoes and the confit duck. They arrived with 2 scrambled egg dishes and no confit duck. My potatoes tasted old and re-heated, eggs ok, bacon very chewy. The duck arruved 20min later- it was very average, poor potato although poached eggs ok. The manager apologized and the duck was on the house but it took them ages to ask if we wanted anything else. It came to $15 - I put$20 expecting some change back. I wasn't going to leave $5 top for service. Well I had to ask for the change! So when I did get it, I was so annoyed, I didn't leave any!

Had been there a couple of times for drinks and decided to give it a try for dinner. The place was hopping when we arrived at 7. The decor was tasteful and very comfortable. Despite the crowd, we were seated at a table for two that allowed us privacy to chat and yet stay in the middle of things. The music was just right. The service was top notch. We chose the chefs choices for small appetites. It was perfect and included a cheese and honey appetizer; cabbage and nut salad with a yummy dressing; fresh corn and bacon salad and tasty lollipop meatballs , The meal ended with a traditional pie and ice cream, Thirty five each wad a great value!

Esquire rated this place among it's best new restaurants and the idea of Latino cuisine is a good one. I love that most of the plates are small so you can try a wide variety of food. The Tequilla list is overwhelming, but there is obviously good stuff on this list. The cocktail menu is interesting, but we found the high end cocktails to be just okay. Our food was quite good, but not excellent. I think this place is a good value for the variety you get though. And I was impressed with the noise level given the size of the restaurant and it's openness. It's quite lively and pleasant. Really, I think Tico is not far from being a top flight restaurant. I think the food just needs slightly better execution.
