Diner Reviews
  • "Good food, great wait staff, awesome live music, fun crowd. That night was grand!"

  • "We have eaten at Three Seasons several times in the past. This time we found the seating uninteresting (a greasy smell inside sent us outside to face a bare concrete wall). The food was significantly poorer in quality than before (flavorless undercooked bok choy, for example) arriving as small expensive portions. The service was slow even though the restaurant was not crowded. We will not return."

  • "It was a pleasant dining experience. We ordered two appetizers, seafood potstickers and happy buns which is pao with peking duck. It was good but the peking duck was meager. The potstickers were nice but it came to us slightly warm - it would have been nice if it were hot. It seems that it was not freshly made. We also ordered the grilled prawns with garlic noodles - ok - the prawns were sadly overcooked. We ordered chilean seabass and that was very nice and the bok choy was pretty good. For dessert we ordered sticky rice and mango - sticky rice was delicious. Our waitress Caitlin was very nice - no complaints there."

  • "We sat outdoor and cannot hear our conversation as the loud noise from jackhammer nearby that was non-stop during lunchtime. When the sun came out, we asked to move indoor but was told that there was a private party going on. But when I pick up the bill from the cashier, there was no party at all. In fact, there were lots of empty tables and only about 3 small tables were occupied."

  • "We sat outside so there was very little noise, and since it's not on the street there is no traffic going by. Highlight of our meal was the Thai snapper, a whole fish fried with crispy skin and succulent flesh and presented not lying down but as if it were swimming and turning. The salad with grapefruit pieces and cashews was also a hit. Sadly we did not order the lamb chops but we did get the "Happy Buns", duck in a steamed bun with the fixings of Peking Duck inside – very satisfying. We lamented the disappearance of the Muscadet from the wine list but enjoyed the Sylvaner from Alsace instead, and at only $36 a bargain."

  • "We were seated immediately with the OpenTable Reservation. We were a party of 4 and ordered Crab Wallets, Shrimp roll and Happy Buns. The appetizers took 10 mins and were just perfect. For main course, we ordered Lamb, Snapper and Shaking Beef with Garlic Noodles - straight out of the Foursquare recommendations. They were out of snapper so we ordered the Sea Bass instead. The dishes were all winners. But, the servings are very small for most Americans. 2 of us had to go for pizza after."

  • "Sat outside on tall stools on a warm weeknight. Spring rolls good. Little chops delicious. Many choices and many plates to share. Always like the wonderful flavors of Three Seasons' food."

  • "Service was great - the food was fairly good but not all items were that great. The pork baby back ribs were definitely good and worth ordering. The hamachi shots were decent but not amazing."

  • "Fun flavors, artfully presented. BBQ Pork Ribs were especially tender. Soft Shell Crab roll was delicious; I'd order that again. Duck roll was tasty. Prawn and mango roll was interesting, but a bit too sweet. Papaya salad was nice, but a little too much green papaya and not enough counterbalance. The chicken salad was surprisingly yummy with many different flavors. The catfish was a little dry and bland. Udon noodles had a good mixture of tofu and vegetables, but the mushroom broth was pretty light. Ginger creme brulee and the chocolate lava cake were both delicious."

  • "We enjoyed a casual family dinner here and were very happy with the food and service. The appetizers, papaya salad, ribs and sticky rice dessert were all delicious. I felt they could do more to improve the ambience. The balcony is nice--but the rail was right at eye-level so we couldn't see the room below."

  • "A special birthday was made even better with the delicious small plates at this absolutely beautiful restaurant in downtown Palo Alto. Excellent service also in a bit of a hideaway location. Really enjoyed this place and would definitely go again."

  • "Lunch was quiet and leisurely, giving us time to eat everything we ordered. Artichoke soup (or was it asparagus?) was excellent. Duck rolls and eggplant dish very satisfying. Crisp tofu not as crisp as expected, but tasty without such strong flavors as to be unsuitable for appetizer. Seafood potstickers less interesting than expected. I'm ready to go again."

  • "We had dined at Three Seasons with a large group several months ago and thought the food and service was wonderful. When we went back on our own, the service was still very good but almost everything we ordered was overcooked and tough and almost inedible. The only dish that came out well was the Barbeque Pork Satay. We were particularly disappointed in the Crab Purses (overcooked and very dry) and the Garlic Noodles and Shrimp (the noodles were okay but the shrimp was inedible). We've scratched Three Seasons off our list!"

  • "Literally a hidden gem in overbooked Palo Alto, Three Seasons offers high quality, truly delicious dishes in a nice environment only one door in off University Ave. I'm a big fan of the Slanted Door in SF, and found the green papaya salad even better here, and the shaking beef so tender and delicious. Definitely coming back often, especially as my other favorites in PA are usually booked at least one week in advance and impossible to get into. Hope I didn't ruin this now for myself -- but the management and chef definitely deserve the applause. Enjoy!"

  • "My boyfriend and I came here for dinner after he picked me up from the airport and it was the perfect place to unwind with a fabulous selection of wine, apps, and entrees. We made a reservation just a few minutes before we showed up and they seated us immediately, upstairs was a fun place to people watch and take in the unique atmosphere. Seating anywhere else in the restaurant as well as outside would offer an equally great experience. Our server Gabriele was so nice and had some great recommendations for us. We enjoyed the energy and ambiance and will definitely go back! "

  • "If you're looking for traditional and tasty Vietnamese food, maybe look elsewhere. We took our family here for dinner this weekend. The building is lovely with a grand domed ceiling and good people watching potential from the balconies. The bar was buzzing with a Friday night crowd. The food however was overpriced for what it was. The fresh duck spring rolls were the highlight. Everything else was either deep fried to within an inch of its life or not sharp and flavorsome enough- overall a bland Americanised take on Vietnamese cooking. There was nothing especially bad about the experience, but having said that, nothing standout either. I don't think we'll be back. "

  • "Never too crowded or noisy, Three Seasons is an old standby that you might forget. But the curry chicken is simply outstanding, and the old building is so pretty and light inside, that we return over and over"

  • "Really enjoyed the food, service and ambience. Not sure if we would dine here without a discount deal...it is a bit pricey but very tasty. Had a travelzoo voucher that was a great deal!"

  • "Our service was poor, shaking beef meat was chewy, chicken satay was dry, garlic noodles were bland and the app with calamari was sitting in oil? It was not a good dining experience."

  • "This was our first time there. I was scoping out the place since I send groups of 10 to 14 from my workplace to local restaurants every week. The good: Beautiful setting, food is fresh, tasty, artfully presented, and busboys were excellent. The bad and the ugly: Hostesses (2) and our waiter were awful. The worst service we've had in many years. Completely inattentive, unaware and uninterested that we had not been approached by a waiter for the first 15 minutes minutes, or when we wanted to order another side, or when we wanted our check. Restrooms were gross and not looked after, and it was 6:30 pm! Definitely not going back and not sending anyone from my workplace there. We want to nominate them for one of those restaurant stakeout shows!"

  • "First time eating at Three Seasons; Popular place, lively atmosphere. Food was tasty and enjoyed by all; one MSG-sensitive diner got a headache the next day, so unsure about MSG content. One dish arrived barely lukewarm; waitstaff was friendly but timing and frequency of check-ins may have suffered due to how busy the restaurant was. Great cocktails. Go more for the lively ambiance than anything else!"

  • "Particular like the shaking beef and shrimp and garlic noodles. Spring role were excellent. For dessert we had a fried banana and warm mango- both terrific. "

  • "Beautiful place, attentive service, but very overpriced food for the portion size and simplicity of the flavors and ingredients. Don't come hungry if you're on a budget."
    Dined on 5/9/2014
  • "Service was just okay, food seemed overpriced for a shrimp noodle entree ($28 and greasy), small hot pot of catfish ($36, no rice included) and never noticed this before on previous visits. Nonetheless, not what I remember of the restaurant; prices seemed more expensive, staff scarce and not as attentive (hostess included), and the quality of food was less than expected. Even the main floor seating had changed; all tables were high tops. Sad that service and quality lacked as we drove from San Francisco just for dinner at Three Seasons."

  • " as always, great food! Love their seafood potstickers and great selection of vegetarian dishes, a few new items on the menu, liked their prawns and vegetables and great service as well!"

  • "We went for our anniversary dinner and was hoping to have some of our favorites dishes. They took the Baked Apple off their drink menu...they changed the crispy calamari recipe to now incorporate turmeric powder, and the soft shell crab roll just wasn't the same and fell apart . Our server did not really write anything down so she missed part of our order and she was more interested in getting a drink for herself than getting our drinks. Our food came out before our drinks...needless to say, we didn't stay for the rest of dinner. We left and went around the corner for better food and better service."

  • "LOVE the foods we ordered! Staff were accommodating with my 3 kids (2 kids & 1 newborn) and gave us a spacious table upstairs. Nice ambiance too."

  • "Inspite of being a beautiful restaurant with good service, the food seems to suffer from declining quality.. Since we were in a large group, we got to sample a number of dishes, and while everything was OK, nothing stood out the way it used to. The portions seem to keep getting smaller, so I don't see either value or taste, just a nice place to hang out with friends.."

  • "Server, food, and ambiance were all fabulous. We selected from the small plates menu to share and everything was delicious - quail, duck salad rolls, oysters, lamb, and a huge portion of calamari. The server was friendly and accommodating regarding our Groupon (not always the case at all restaurants) and made a stellar drink recommendation. We would love to go back, but it's a bit beyond our means without the Groupon. Not necessarily overpriced when compared to other area restaurants of the same caliber, but definitely expensive."

  • "The food was bland and had no taste. The scorpion shrimp rolls had zero taste. The shrimp dish was OK, not great. I expected to be wow'd by the food and was so disappointed. The service was ok; the waiter was not attentive and didn't come by to check on us. And, then to add insult to injury, the waiter added his tip to the bill. There were 2 of us and he added 20% tip. Not cool!! I do not recommend 3seasons and will never go back. Not worth the prices."

  • "We dine at Three Seasons a few times a year. I have never been disappointed with their food, service, or drinks. This is a fantastic restaurant with a very unique menu. The shaking beef, baby back ribs, sea bass, and traditional rolls are our favorites."

  • "Our second visit for dinner at Three Seasons did not disappoint with great seafood potstickers, five spice lamb chops, steamed sea bass and eggplant dishes. The loud bar area and surrounding tables prompted us to sit outside. Pleasant courtyard tables were fine but the service lagged. Our guest loved every dish and stated she 'd return claiming the lamb was the best preparation she had ever had anywhere."

  • "We enjoyed a leisurely dinner for my friend's birthday. A table upstairs was quieter than those downstairs. Food and service were great."

  • "Food was good - presentation was outstanding. Prices high considering what size the portions are. Five shrimps and some garlic noodles for $24 dollars??????"
    Dined on 3/23/2014
  • "the food was subpar, over priced, and over rated. garlic noodles were sweet and had no garlic taste. the ahi tuna spring roll and lemon grass chicken both lacked flavor. for a place that charges so much i would think they wouldn't send out dishes on chipped plates."
    Dined on 3/21/2014
  • "Overpriced, some dishes are OK, others skip. The bus boy kept coming to take the plates when we were only half way through eating. Portions are small and expensive. There are many better options in Palo Alto for a better price. Thankfully we had a groupon offer, otherwise the price would of been crazy."

  • "Three season is beautiful, services were outstanding. The reason i give a four stars overall and a 3 stars only for food is I'm asian and I know how asian food should taste like. I was not impressed with the claypot catfish or the soft shell crab rolls and the dessert (The Trio) was disappointed. The shaking beef was very delicious and tender, drink was good too. What the food quality, its a bit overpriced. For the ambiance and services, it's worth a try!"
