  • "From the stunning artwork, to historical architecture, the regular updates to the menu, and chefs that actually come out to connect with the customers, this restaurant provides for great table conversation and interaction with the people behind the experience."

  • "We had a group of 34 and the staff dealt with our chaos very well. Thee were 10 kids between the age of 2-5 and one of the chefs took them to a candy closet for a special treat! They are all still talking about! The extras that the staff do is what sets Thomsons apart from any other restaraunt!"

  • "I selected this place based on a google search for good resturaunts for brunch in calgary. I was very happy with it, and appreciated the free parking they provide too. The hotel is nice, and the resturaunt was not busy when we arrived. The brunch was very good, and the coffee was excellent. The people I was with had French toast filled with yogurt, and the eggs with sausage. Both dishes were good they said. I would eat here again, I thought it was very good. "

  • "Have Brunch regularly at Thomson. Always good food and good service, especially with Joseph. Good place to meet up with family or friends."

  • "Great seasonal menu, superb service and rich ambiance. The steaks and rack of lamb were cooked perfectly; I prefer Thompsons ribeye over Caesars any day. The restaurant is so quiet every time we go; I think Thompsons must be one of the best kept secrets downtown."

  • "The food was so delicious and the service impeccable. We were seated right away and love the open kitchen. After dinner we had a coffee (again excellent). My sister had a latte which was not good at all - suggested that they take it off the menu as it was a disappointment after the fabulous meal. Would definitely go again."

  • "Food was good. They easily accommodate for food sensitivities and allergies. Team had the cioppino, steak and chicken burger, all were good. Highlight was the dessert poutine an entertaining end to lunch."

  • "I heard great things about the Sunday brunch at Thomsons so in my recent trip to Calgary (I live in Edmonton) I decided to make a reservation and give it a try. The place was very neat, ambiance was very appealing and the layout of the place well thought of. It satisfied my morning waffle craving (was actually offered and served at our table warm—plus points) down to your savoury roast or seafood desires. Overall, the food department passed with flying colors for me. I commend Ms. Irene for taking the extra mile to make our first Sunday brunch at Thomsons perfect. Her attitude was very refreshing, and she made us feel very welcome. Genuine customer service which you seldom see anymore. Thomsons is very lucky to have her. Till next time."

  • "Needed a bigger selection on the menu. When we asked if they had burgers on the menu, we were offered the lounge menu without hesitation. Calvin was our waiter, he was attentive without being intrusive which was a skill hard to come by. Unfortunately the dishes took a tad too long to come out so we had to rush through our meals to get to the theater. Would've loved to be able to finish the meal with a coffee and dessert. All and all, it was enjoyable."

  • "The service was outstanding; from the hostess to the server, everyone was very attentive. Small details, like putting your napkin on your lap - I like this! Never were our water or wine glasses empty. It's rare to find this caliber of service in Calgary...Rimrock and Charcut are a joke in comparison. We came for Big Taste; I had the brie & grilled pineapple spinach salad to start: oh my!! Might be my new favourite thing. Stuffed chicken and the Bailey's cheesecake desert were also delicious. Will definitely be back. The only downside was the noise level was a bit loud for my liking - but they have huge booths for groups, so perhaps that's what they cater to?"

  • "Went for Brunch at the newly-renovated Thompson's...and it is impressive. Only problem is the fact that it is so wide-open with high ceilings and hardwood floors, making it very difficult to hear each other and carry on a conversation. Other than that, the food was quite good. At first glance it appeared to be a sparse choice, however the food is in two different areas...so a decent selection of various meats (both hot and cold), eggs ( eggs-benedict, omelettes, scrambled, etc.), waffles, pancakes, seafood, salads, etc... There were many desserts as well. The service was terrific...Ringo made sure to take care of all our needs and was pleasant and friendly yet still professional. Overall a good decision for a Sunday Brunch!"

  • "My wife and I have 2 young boys at home, both under 3. We haven't been out together for a nice dinner in a long time. We had heard great things about Thompson's so we gave it a try. The server was great. He acknowledged that we had a show to see afterwards so dinner was prompt. We were not rushed and we were out the door in plenty of time. We had the Chef's Little Taste of Calgary. Food was outstanding, we will be back. We will recommended Thompson's to our friends."

Meal was tasty and beautifully presented. Portion sizes were ideal! A very lovely restaurant, nice ambience as we could sit aand chat. Thank YOU for a positive dining experience."

  • "Went to Thompsons for a birthday meal, party of 4, and the product Thompsons offers is top notch. I think we often forget about restaurants inside hotels, but Thompsons is worth remembering. They have a beautiful space that revels in the mystique of western ranch life, but is still bright and lively. I was impressed to find Elk on the menu that week (they rotate their offerings often), and it was prepared perfectly. Appetizers were great too, with unique and inspired options. The service is just what I would expect, they went out of their way to acknowledge our special occasion and we all felt truly cared for! I will be back again!"

  • "Start to finish, our group gathering went well. Food options were vast and satisfied everyone. Service was attentive but not overbearing. At no time did we feel rushed to vacant. It was a very enjoyable brunch and I would definitely return as well as recommend it to locals as well as visitors to the city."

  • "My husband and I arrived early and this wasn't an issue, they offered us a choice of table and seated us. I'm 6 months pregnant and a diabetic and again this wasn't an issue either, they were able to offer us the same menu with minor adjustments. Our server Chantelle answered all our questions with regards to the menu, and if she couldn't she was able to source the answer and advise. Our drinks were always kept topped up and there was no intrusion during the meal. I would highly recommend this restaurant and shall be going back, the food was fantastic, and full of flavour."

  • "All 3 times I have gone for Sunday Brunch at Thomsons our server has been Joseph who is a sophisticated and remarkable man who's mannerism makes the whole experience perfect. The selection and quality of food is always outstanding and have not known anyone to be dissatisfied. Thank you for doing a great job, Thomsons and please give St. Joseph a pat at the back."

  • "The food was great as was the service. A bit pricey but well worth it - food was very well prepared and presented."

  • "It's great that you can see the kitchen behind the food service bar. It gives a nice touch to the food compared to most buffet-style restaurants where the food is brought out from the kitchen in serving pans. Waffles and eggs benny are made to order instead of most places where they can get soggy or dry from sitting in the serving pan. The overall quality of the food was great. The dessert exceeded my expectations for a buffet-style brunch place. The food selection was nothing out of the ordinary, however the layout of the restaurant's food service areas was a bit spread out - not a bad thing, but seemed strange. Great Sunday Brunch experience overall. Would definitely recommend for brunch."

  • "Are there no quiet restaurants in this city? WE chose a night where all the preteens from some dance competition were in the restaurant, having a special buffet, which put a damper on the 'quiet night out' idea my partner and I had hoped for. The French soup was so-so (shouldn't have ordered the special), but the rack of lamb we each had was exceptional. I will definitely go back, on what will hopefully be, a quieter night."

  • "We had not been to Thomson's for Sunday brunch in years - we were pleasantly surprised to find it has changed for the much better. I don't know if people had gone back to bed due to the early Canada vs Sweden Gold Medal Olympic Game but it was extremely quiet. There wasn't a huge selection of food - which in our minds is good - just a nice variety of fresh, tasty choices. The star of the day was the perfectly done medium rare Prime Rib, accompanied by a Moroccan Chicken and various sides plus the usual breakfast items. We were disappointed the fresh cinnamon buns were missing but did not mind so much as the house-made danish were stellar. Fresh Eggs Benedict made to order! Trust me, this is a fantastic deal for $30.00 pp."

  • "We were looking forward to what we'd heard was the new-and-improved Thompsons, with a frequently changing menu and a focus on fresh, regional foods. While the space is beautiful, the food was a letdown. A fish entree was hard (not firm, but hard) and dry, and was wrapped in an overpoweringly smoky bacon. (If I hadn't ordered it, I would have assumed I was eating a chicken breast.). The presentation was beautiful, but the taste wasn't. We tried two apps: shrimp and Brie. Both came deep fried. (Ick. We should have read the menu more carefully.) For both, their only preparation and only flavour was, well, "deep fried". Both oozed with cooking oil and we're barely passable. Prices are high, and weren't justified for the food that we tried."

  • "This was a business lunch. I booked through Open Table for a 1:30 pm reservation. When we arrived we were told the kitchen closed at 1:30 pm. Why even offer a reservation for that time if the kitchen is closed? We were able to stay for lunch however. Sadly the food service was very slow and the food quality disappointing."

  • "Do yourself a favour and reserve a spot at Thomson's for Sunday Brunch. All the usual breakfast dishes done well and a lot that you don't see at most brunches. The lunch dishes make up a good half of the brunch offerings and they are also outstanding. Great coffee and fresh orange juice enhance the flavourful food. The experienced staff are the friendliest in town and are very accommodating. A great way to begin a lazy Sunday!"

  • "We had dinner for two on a very busy Saturday night and were pleased to see a couple of favourites returned to the new menu. The Prime Rib was succulent and served with an assortment of vegetables and the traditional Yorkshire pudding. The BC Sturgeon is always a good choice and is served on a wonderful creamy risotto. Come to Thomson's for first rate service from the friendliest staff in town. It is always interesting to see how the staff support each other without hesitation. Chef Darren does a great job of getting the prepared dishes to the diner in quick order and seems to always have a moment to wave at regulars while overseeing the kitchen. Thomson's fare shouldn't be mistaken for ordinary hotel food. Enjoy the difference!"
