  • Great brunch in downtown Calgary

The brunch contains a bounty of breakfast and lunch items, plus a decadent dessert bar. Overall we were very pleased with the selection and quality of options. The ambiance is also very pleasant with portraits and sculptures of Alberta displayed throughout the venue. There's also a massive fireplace and large tables to entertain groups. Our only concern is the price is not $22 as is advertised on the Thomsons website. We paid $30 plus tip and tax. The value is still (somewhat) worth it considering it's central location and the buffet selection, but we would have liked to have known the real cost in advance.

Upon arriving at the restaurant, they had no record of our reservation even though I received confirmation of it through Open Table. The server was very slow to bring our tea and orange juice. We had the breakfast buffet and ordered our eggs benedict through him and he totally forgot to put our order in. We have been to this restaurant before and it was much better. The quality of the food wasn't great this time - a lot of the food was cold.

The food was absolutely amazing. I personally had the special (bacon-wrapped tenderloin), and it was truly spectacular! Thomsons is definitely my new favourite. I believe that the tenderloin should become part of the main menu (lunch menu), it was such a hit at my table and my date described it as "heaven in a bite". At one point, a chef came and asked me if I liked the meal and I couldn't find a thing wrong with it! Truly Delicious! Kudos to the chefs! THANKS!

We had an enjoyable experience. The meat was tender and tasty. I had lamb for the first time ever! Awesome. The only thing was a couple of appetizers on the menu would be nice. There was 6 of us so we shared the steak bites (only kind of things to order) which were great but a nibbly type of food is always nice to begin the evening.

Good atmosphere and polite server. However, I was disappointed in the main course salad. A lot of money for dried chicken and bagged spinach leaves (stemmes not removed) and hardly any brie. Had not been there for a number of years and won't be back for a while.

We had a notification that Thomson's was offering a 3 course meal special on the evening of an event we were attending at the Jack Singer Centre. It was excellent value ($36.00 PP) and the food was delicious. We had an attentive, yet unobtrusive server and enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant. As it was early in the evening, it was quiet. We will definitely return for future "specials" when we are attending an event in town.

Always a little nervous eating in a hotel restaurant for anything except breakfast, but my nervousness was for naught. Very pleasant décor, friendly hostess, friendly waitress, and a friendly manager. My steak was cooked perfectly and it was a nice cut of beef, the side dish was very good, and meal had a very appealing plating. I'll definitely be back.

There were 4 of us in our party & we have all dined at Thomsons several times. The service was good but all felt the food was very disappointing. The salad starter was tasteless & the pasta was overly spiced. The scallops were tasty but veggies were all mush. Apple crumble was enjoyable. We will be finding another venue to dine at prior to attending the theatre.

They were clearly having kitchen and service issues this day. The espresso machine was broken. Our toast was black when it came out. One person's order was lost and came out 30 minutes after the other 3 orders. When it arrived, it was the wrong order. It was eaten anyway, because we did not have time to wait for another order. Remaining food was ok but not great.

We really enjoyed our Sunday evening meal there with our family but we felt the light could have been a little less bright. The room is lovely and if the lights were lowered with some soft music, it would have been much more enjoyable. We specifically chose Thomson's for our Thanksgiving Evening dinner out with family because there was an a la carte menu vs. buffet. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the service was excellent but as I mentioned, the atmosphere was lacking a bit.

The Eagles were playing on National TV and we need to eat at a restaurant that was close so we wouldn't miss the beginning kick off. Thompson's is in the Calgary Hyatt Regency. The food was good. The very best part of the meal was the homemade bread. It was crisp, tasty and full of nuts, cranberries and excellent taste! I had very good rack of lamb, the meat in Calgary has been excellent. But they served it with sauce au jus, which had good flavor, but alongside that was a very strong Chinese mustard sauce, NOT wanted, thank you! The mashed potatoes were good as were the veggies, but not creativity. The pumpkin pie was very good, you could tell it was homemade. Overall it was a good meal, but get rid of that mustard!

Joseph served us - as always he was wonderful. I ordered the steak sandwich. The fries I would say had been re-fried. My steak was a pretty pathetic little piece of meat that was dry and tasted like it was about a day off from going bad. My colleague was not impressed with his fish and chips but did finish my steak as he was still hungry. Can usually count on a decent meal - not this time. I was not charged for my lunch - but would rather have paid and enjoyed my food.

I received an email from the Epcor Center telling us of a dinner that you had put together for the preconcert for Ziggy Marley, and I have to tell you that it was a brilliant idea. We came from Red Deer for the concert and decided to come alittle early and do some shopping and then come back to the restaurant for supper and onto the concert. We arrived alittle early and you were able to accomodate us. We hope to come back during the winter and be able to do a bed and breakfast to try the brunch that we were told about by the server. She nailed the wine right as well. Was a great evening.

It's convenient to dine at Thomson's before a show at Epcor Centre. The service is fast enough so that you have time to enjoy your meal. The food is easy to digest because the chef has a light touch. Even dessert goes down smoothly and doesn't leave you feeling too full so that you can go off to the next part of the evening feeling satisfied and comfortable. The acoustics work well. What a pleasure to be able to talk over dinner without shouting or straining to hear your companions. We thought the Ziggy Marley 3 course dinner special (which included parking) was good value. The food was flavourful. We hesitated over eating dessert, but it arrived before we could decline. The coconut dream pie was delicious!

While there was an attempt at getting the food right they missed the mark. The salad was too watery, one of our entrees was only luke warm, and it was difficult to tell if the pie was actually made in house. They do have great, professional service though and enjoyed the ambiance and the people working there.

Took some clients to Thomsons for lunch Sept 24th. Sat near the service area so it was very loud and chaotic. Very slow service. Client ordered the smoked meat medium but they brought instead the Alberta steak sandwich well done. Also messed up the side dish order and brought my client two bowls of soup, didn't even ask if that was correct, just sat both bowls. When they brought his meal (the steak sandwich, not the smoked meat that he had ordered) they brought a second bowl of soup as the server obviously didn't understand that he only wanted the soup appetizer and not a 2nd bowl. Two steak salads ordered medium but again the meat came tough as jerky. Different servers delivered all the food, very chaotic, and communincation difficulties

I was really surprised by the lackluster and lukewarm lunch I had at Thomson's today. I ordered the smoked meat sandwich ($16), thinking it would be along the lines of a Montreal style set up. Wrong. Tiny serving, slapped together on dry bread. No mustard, no sauerkraut, nothing. One pickle, and get this: (literally) 2 little slivers of red onion smooshed into the tiny little square of melted cheese on the bread. Surprised not only by the lack of quality, but more by the lack of love put into it. One friend enjoyed his steak sandwich; the rest of us were unimpressed. Positives: lovely décor.
