A Sunday evening spectacular: Flamenco music and dancing with great nibbles of food and sangria! Sitting by the stage will appropriately slow service down, but it's well worth it for the performance. Wish I didn't have to keep asking for my water to be filled (just provide a pitcher!) and they were out of the brandy we wanted, but overall, a fantastic night of food and entertainment.

This is one of my favorite south-of-Market restaurants. It's close to MOMA (now closed) and Yerba Buena Center. Beer is the beverage of choice here, with many options available. The food is a delicious combination of Spanish and California cuisines. Among the excellent choices of tapas are the meatballs, ribs (which come sliced, more like pork loin), beans with chorizo. Actually, I've worked my way through this menu and have never been disappointed. Prices are reasonable, though on my last visit, it seemed they were sneaking upward -- but then, that's true of most places. It's still in the affordable range. Service is invariably friendly and efficient.

We came with a group of 6 friends and had an excellent time, trying all kinds of different beers and several dishes to share. The Panda Bear Golden Ale was my favorite. The broccolini and kale cesar were outstanding, the service was great, and we'll certainly come back to the Thirsty Bear the next time we're in San Francisco.

Had Rye Brasseur Farm House Ale and Roggen Bier German style hefe. Both good , I like the farm house better. The croquetas were lacking flavor. Ham & IPA pairing was good. Empanadas were good and spicy, undercooked, since they were dough-y inside. Brocolini also undercooked on the stems, I like to eat the whole length; my b/f only ate the floret. The lamb was not game-y, but lacked flavor; so I covered it in the garlic oil that came on the side. With a Fri 8 pm Res they sat us as a couple in the back of the empty restaurant. I suppose this was our mistake making a brewery our date night. The dim bar could have been romantic, but the back felt like the bright stroller section in a food court. Next time put me up front with the adults, thx!

This place is getting worse with time. I think the only thing that brings me here at this point is the show. The server was totally unintelligent or inefficient to the point of giving ridiculous feedback to my friend's request. Also he looked totally spaced out (stoned?). I had to laugh because the last thing I want is to be rude or negative. After all, I am up for having a good time no matter what. As I said, I'd recommend the show experience at this restaurant, but that's about it.

My recent visit to Thirsty Bear was less than I expected. For some reason the server appeared to be in a hurry. When my friend asked what was the specials the server pointed to the menu to indicate "read it". My other friend had to flag him down to order a drink. The service just wasn't acceptable. The food was good but the service was a bit to be desired.

Food left a lot to be desired...the paella was too mushy and came out in 15 minutes 20 at the most...it should take st least 30- 45 minutes for a good paella...the calamari was horrible and came out immediately...wasn't fresh at all...the croquetas were terrible too...just deep fried mush... The sangria was good and 1/2 beers were good...Howard st IPA WAS AWESOME...I'd go back but only for beer

My friend was visiting Sf and loves breweries so we thought we'd give this one a try. I will say our group all enjoyed our beers and they were reasonably priced. The food however was mediocre at best and priced as if it were gourmet. The burger was a decent size, but for 18 dollars after adding a single strip of bacon for $2 and another $1 for "bravas" patatas was way too much. The potatoes came out cold and rather than being tossed in the garlic sauce it seemed as though it was just dabbed in the middle lazily so some were covered in it while others were plain. We also got some deviled eggs (delicious) and some tapas (overcooked but tender steak and broccoli that was average at best). Overall would join for beer but not for food.

In a town filled with good eats, it doesn't take long to fall "just" under the line. Though we were in at 9pm, with closing time at 10, on a Wednesday night...it took quite a while for a server to appear. We got a flight of beers, some lovely appetizers and then an assortment of tapas for our meal. The flavors were good (if not a little mild for Spanish food) but each dish was just a bit off. It didn't help that we got the first tapas plate and the server left us with food but no napkins or utensils...it was a good 4-5 minutes before someone reappeared with the rest of our food and we had to ask for napkins, etc. It's not a bad place, it just could be so much better...

At Walnut Creek BART at 5:45p I knew I'd be late to Thirsty Bear for my 6:30p reservation. Waiting for the train I left a message for TB at 6pm that I'd likely be late, 6:45-6:50 for my reservation and to please call me if this would be a problem. After BART at 6:45p, with no phone calls/texts to my smart phone (it's 2014 people..) I walked briskly to TB. 6:48p at TB, the rude 25ish tattooed imp told me that "we've given your table away". I get that I was over 15 minutes late, that TB is popular these days, but - no call back = no customer service. There are plenty of other places in SOMA/SF today that care more about customer service. I will not return to TB anytime soon - they do not deserve it.

We met friends we hadn't seen in two years for dinner. I was so happy when they lead us away from the bar into the back area where we got tucked around the corner. The crowd at the bar was deafening. Our table was quieter, so we could carry on a conversation. There is a great selection of bears. I had a Panda Bear, which I enjoyed. I ordered the vegetarian paella, while the other three shared plate after plate of tapas. Their favorites were the flatbread with some kind of Italian ham and the French onion soup. My paella could have served two, was decent but kind of bland. It could have used more color and flavor. Our server was polite and mostly timely. But we picked the restaurant mostly because of its location near our hotel...

What a find! Very cool, but comfortable, with friendly service. It's an organic brewery, great selection of beers. They offer flights so you can taste 12 different if you want. I had a stout, a red ale, a pilsner. All the beers are named after bears, i.e. panda, polar, etc. Clever. The tapas were delicious, the poblano peppers stuffed with manchego cheese were our favorite and homemade pickles were yummy too. My son devoured the Thirsty Bear burger and he's usually hard to please so it must've been good...our waitress was so attentive and helpful with the beer selections. I loved the space, how the tables were set up and the floor plan. Oh and the prices were reasonable too. I would definitely return to this place and recommend it highly.
