ThirstyBear serves only sustainable harvested seafood; all natural meats free of growth hormones & synthetic additives; and local organic seasonal produce.

ThirstyBear recycles all paper, glass, aluminum & plastic. We compost all organic matter; we recycle our cooking oil into biodiesel. Our menu paper is post consumer recycled; our to-go containers are recyclable or compostable. We use energy efficient lighting, heating, cooling & conserve water in the brewery & restaurant.

  • "In a town filled with good eats, it doesn't take long to fall "just" under the line. Though we were in at 9pm, with closing time at 10, on a Wednesday night...it took quite a while for a server to appear. We got a flight of beers, some lovely appetizers and then an assortment of tapas for our meal. The flavors were good (if not a little mild for Spanish food) but each dish was just a bit off. It didn't help that we got the first tapas plate and the server left us with food but no napkins or utensils...it was a good 4-5 minutes before someone reappeared with the rest of our food and we had to ask for napkins, etc. It's not a bad place, it just could be so much better..."

  • "At Walnut Creek BART at 5:45p I knew I'd be late to Thirsty Bear for my 6:30p reservation. Waiting for the train I left a message for TB at 6pm that I'd likely be late, 6:45-6:50 for my reservation and to please call me if this would be a problem. After BART at 6:45p, with no phone calls/texts to my smart phone (it's 2014 people..) I walked briskly to TB. 6:48p at TB, the rude 25ish tattooed imp told me that "we've given your table away". I get that I was over 15 minutes late, that TB is popular these days, but - no call back = no customer service. There are plenty of other places in SOMA/SF today that care more about customer service. I will not return to TB anytime soon - they do not deserve it. "

  • "We went to see the Warriors Basketball playoffs. Had a great seat and an understanding wait person. We ate slowly as to see the whole game. The food was delicious. The beer excellent. We sat and ate small plates for 2+ hours. We would have been happier if the warriors won."

  • "I love, TB- Thirsty Bear that is...not so much on the tuberculosis. Talking about disease may be poor reviewer form, but hey, I learned it from watching you, @Eat24. TB offers great burgers and tapas, delicious weekday lunch specials, amazing rotating craft beers, Sunday flamenco performances, an outstanding dining atmosphere, and pool and foos ball in a great entertaining space upstairs. Thirsty Bear is perfect for a date or absolutely any occasion personal or professional. "Do it," in my best but still awful New York accent."

  • "We met friends we hadn't seen in two years for dinner. I was so happy when they lead us away from the bar into the back area where we got tucked around the corner. The crowd at the bar was deafening. Our table was quieter, so we could carry on a conversation. There is a great selection of bears. I had a Panda Bear, which I enjoyed. I ordered the vegetarian paella, while the other three shared plate after plate of tapas. Their favorites were the flatbread with some kind of Italian ham and the French onion soup. My paella could have served two, was decent but kind of bland. It could have used more color and flavor. Our server was polite and mostly timely. But we picked the restaurant mostly because of its location near our hotel..."

  • "What a find! Very cool, but comfortable, with friendly service. It's an organic brewery, great selection of beers. They offer flights so you can taste 12 different if you want. I had a stout, a red ale, a pilsner. All the beers are named after bears, i.e. panda, polar, etc. Clever. The tapas were delicious, the poblano peppers stuffed with manchego cheese were our favorite and homemade pickles were yummy too. My son devoured the Thirsty Bear burger and he's usually hard to please so it must've been good...our waitress was so attentive and helpful with the beer selections. I loved the space, how the tables were set up and the floor plan. Oh and the prices were reasonable too. I would definitely return to this place and recommend it highly."

  • "I was in San Francisco for a conference and we ate at Thirsty Bear our first night. The beer flight was delicious and the food was AMAZING! Everything from the brussel sprouts to the piquillo peppers were fabulous. And who can forget the awesome sea salt and caramel gelato- to die for! I'm so happy we came here!"

  • "Met here with friends and really got into the tapas experience! Really easy to do as the menu has something for everyone...can you a 100% grass fed certified organic burger patty?! Next let's get to the beer, nothing short of amazing. I went straight to their seasonal, 'Wild Stave' and their newest 'Oro en Paz'...both sorus and both wonderfully crafted. The IPA is great too, and I don't even like IPA's. The off beer is definitely the 'Panda' with it's notes of chocolate, good none the less. The host was really smiley, actually, all the staff were smiling and our server Tori was amazing as well. It's a brewery. Who goes to a brewery and has a bad time? I suppose people who don't know how to have a good time in the first place."

  • "For light fare, tapas & paella, Thirsty Bear is great! The olives were warm & tasty. The paella was a little bland, but still was fresh. The brussels sprouts were fantastic! And, the deviled eggs were tasty! Plus, the pilsner I had complemented all of the dishes & tasted great! A great spot for groups! Service was a little spotty. Our assigned server didn't come around until we already had ordered from another server - and the assigned server's service was not great. But, the 1st server from whom we ordered gave us fabulous service - wish we could've kept her as our server!!"

  • "There are so many good restaurants in the city don't waste your time at this one. The food was not good! We had 3 tapas (chicken thigh, lamb skewer and fried potatoes. All average at best. We also got a few of the mussel skewers - worst part of the meal. They were overly smokey and chewier than usual. The beer was decent but nothing exceptional. The good points were that our service was pretty good and the cheese/beer pairing was nice."

In Japan, Tapas, or in Japanese - Izakaya, is a favorite place for the Japanese to dine out with groups. With Thirsty Bear's own selection of beer and delecious Spanish Tapas, its a "hit" for my Japanese guests."

  • "Go for Flemenco on Sunday nights, it's a great date! We sat right next to the stage, and having lived in Spain we can say that the Flemenco is good quality and very authentic. The food is slightly updated spanish, but all the basics are there and compare favorably to a good tapas bar in Barcelona: Gambas, Tortilla, Bravas, Butifara... all that was missing was some good jamon!"

  • "I always enjoy Thirsty Bear. It is my stop en rout home on a warm day and a go to lunch meeting place with clients. The table servers are attentive. Often I find when the crowd is thin, the bar tenders tend to ignore the customers with empty glasses and new arrivals. It is not always but I have seen and experienced it a few times. All and all a good place 90% of the time."

  • "We had a meeting with a client there during the busiest day of the Fancy Food Show. I thought it would be a madhouse in there, but surprisingly, it was not. It was nice to get away to somewhere other than the show and be able to discuss business. The only thing I wish we'd had was a place to put our papers and such while eating. We were at a taller round table so there wasn't a lot of place for overflow - it wasn't that big of a deal though. It was much quieter than I thought it would be, so that was a very pleasant surprise."

  • "35 years ago we spent our honeymoon in Spain. We wanted to recreate some of the aspects of our honeymooon;Iberia in Menlo Park recommended this place. We enjoyed Thirsty Bear for the flamenco show they provided. They had reserved a table close to the stage for us and we had a perfect view of the show. We had good tapas (Brussel sprouts with chorizo and onions, empanadas, flatbread with spicy eggplant, brandada of cod). Our main dish was a paella Valenciana we shared.The paella was average. My husband said I make a better paella and it was nothing like the paella we had eaten at the Tabierna del Puerto in Gandia, Spain, 35 years ago. The desserts were delicious and Thirsty Bear gave them to us as an anniversary gift (nice!). We will be back."
