My out of country guests said the food was better than most places they had been while traveling. I would recommend this place for anyone looking for a great northwestern cuisine. Everything was fresh and simple. I enjoy the trouts, salmon, oysters and shellfish and the salad options. We were getting full and would usually share a dessert, but all four of us each got a dessert and they were amazing!!!

We ordered the seafood tower, the trout, a couple of sides, and a salad. I was blown away...totally! The seafood was amazing. I normally do not like trout, but this was extraordinary. The skin on one side was crispy, the flesh was moist, and the seasoning perfect. The sides were really interesting as well, you can't go wrong with any of them. I especially like the barley, the asparagus, and the beets. We've been back already. The roasted half chicken was so good, but my wife couldn't get thru half of it. Our only real complaint was our to-go bag contained someone else's food (not this chicken). Next time, we will be sure to make reservations sooner. The drafting chairs, while cute, did a number on my back. I'll be sure to request a booth when we come in May.
Oh, and the service....best in Portland. Hands down. Super attentive, never hovering. whoever is training your FOH is VERY good at their job. I had the Lamb Saddle, which was flavorful, but I thought overpriced for the portion size. I saw other patrons with two of the other menu choices I was considering, the pork chop and the hamburger, both of which were much more sizable portions for less money. I appreciate lamb is a more expensive meat and the presentation required more effort, but $32 dollars is the price of finer steaks other places and because of the fat ring on the outside, there simply wasn't much meat.I would probably go back, but order something else.

I am doing this review about the multiple calls about my reservation, including a call to my wife which went into her voice mail. Essentially the woman told her that they would release the table if I was a no-show. My daughter was in fact there but they wouldn't seat her until I arrived, which I did 15 minutes after the scheduled reservation. Then I was informed by Open Table that Woodsman said I was a "no show"! When my wife made this reservation she was limited to certain hours because I guess the restaurant "reserves" tables for walk ins! Earthy, comfortable vibe with a strong focus on quality ingredients presented in a simple way. Wine list focused on terroir driven wines with a great representation of southern Europe.
