"the menu fails to list all ingredients used in the dish and we spent a lot of time asking the waiter how something was done. ie. was it a
walnut or a pecan. onc can have a reaction to a walnut and not a pecan.

the portions are huge and the ingredients are excellent but i think the place just misses the mark ."

"A perfect meal. Although the food is fairly standard American with the likes of salmon, trout, and pork chops, it is impeccably prepared. Two at our table got the best oysters they ever had. Cocktails are great additions to the meal. Service was attentive, smart, and not fussy, similar to the overall tenor of the wonderful restaurant. Expensive for Portland but worth a grand night out."

"This was our second experience, and just as wonderful as the first. This time we brought friends, and they were as excited about our find as we were. I'm sure they in turn will bring their friends and so it goes. Booking our table went well, and we had a nice private booth space where we could see what was going on around us as we dined, so we were private, but also a part of everyone elses scene."

"I am someone who likes to try all of the restaurants that are getting rave reviews; however, I was very disappointed. I love pork belly, but the pork nuggets needed a mustard or spicy dipping sauce to cut the fat, instead of an aoili. We also had the ham plate, which was very good. The pickled collard greens and butter were a great match to the 3 types of ham. Our entrees were disappointing. I had the trout in "crazy water," a supposed specialty of Woodsman. It was OK, but I can get a much better whole fish preparation at several places in town. My partner had the New York steak. She asked for it medium rare, but it was almost blue rare. Broccoli is my favorite vegetable, but wood-grilled with a deconstructed ceaser dresing was gross."

"We made reservations but had to STAND around for 30 minutes waiting for a table to open up. I really don't recall them having a waiting area with chairs. Anyway, the ladies were very nice and attentive, always offering to bring us drinks and keeping us abreast on the seating situation but still, 30 minutes is an annoying amount of time to wait for a reservation. The first table to open up was so tiny but we took it anyway. Overall, the wait was too long and the seating was too cramped that I really don't recall if the food was any good..."

"Very average food. Waitress forgot to serve a drink, had to ask for appetizer that was ordered but not served. (Came with the entrees). Had to wait 20 minutes for our reserved table. In all, not a pleasant dining experience. Considering the price of the meal, better food and service can be had in many other establishments in Portland."
