"The menu was Easter buffet, but the service was poor. The wait staff was unfriendly to the children. Food presentation was bad. A server showed up with a vat of undercooked bacon and plopped it into the tray right in front of me. I would not go back there again."

"This was my first visit since the major expansion. The place looks great and is so much bigger. The décor is very elegant. Our server was very friendly and attentive. But the real surprise was the food. It was fantastic. As my daughter would say, “It was life changing!” We had the Chilean Sea Bass with mushrooms. Melt in your mouth delicious. I would highly recommend the Wooden Nickel for dinner or any occasion."

"Wooden Nickle has undergone a renovation and apparently gained a new chef since I was last there. Nice to hear live music in the bar. Food was very good, for all 4 of us. We had a nice evening without driving into the 'burgh!"

"As my wife and I continue to sample the local restaurants around Pittsburgh, Saturday night was the Wooden Nickel's turn. At first it was difficult to locate and we initially thought it was in an adjacent hotel. We did however locate it after a few trys and the place was nicer than expected. Somehow I thought we were heading to a Pub. The staff were a little cold and are waitress was not very good. Although it is not to my liking, my wife enjoys Tuna that is rather rare. When she was explaining how she would like it cooked to the waitress the waitress said she knows and it looks "horrible" cooked that way. As for the food our salads were great, the wine was very good, and our main dishes (including the rare tuna) were also very good. Noisy."

"Food and service was exceptional and yet, informal. Very comfortable atmosphere. Menu was somewhat pricey but could find dishes under $20. Had seafood dishes...both were excellent. Seared ahi tuna was a very generous portion. Dined on a slow night due to rainy conditions and being a Lenten Friday. Will definitely return."

"For a special occasion such as Valentines Day, I was disappointed that even though lobster was avaialbale at an extra cost, filet was not an option. The choice of a sirlon steak was a poor substitute and diminished my favorable oppion of the place."

"Great restaurant! Kind of hidden away - I've lived in the area most of my life & this is the first I have been there for a meal other than a banquet. Can't recommend it highly enough. Food uniquely prepared & everything was excellent."
