Diner Reviews
  • "I've been to this restaurant twice in the last 4 months. Each time, the food was good but not up to the level commensurate with the exorbitant prices, nor the restaurant's lofty reputation. We had the sea scallops, confit of duck, and rack of lamb, along with various appetizers. Everything was well-prepared and mistake-free, but the flavors were somewhat boring and failed to excite or delight. A place this over-priced needs to do better than that. Their menu is getting a bit staid and tired. It was notable that on both of my visits -each on a Friday or Saturday evening - the place was nearly empty! Not surprising, I guess, given the price-quality mismatch. The service and extensive, award-winning wine list, however, remain excellent."

  • "The WineSellar & Brasserie truly is a gem. The food and service are excellent, the service also. They really take care of you without "hovering". In these fast paced and fast food days, it is nice to have quiet place to be able to have lunch for both business and pleasure. As an added bonus the Wine List is excellent, and be sure and add in some time on your way out to take a look at the wines downstairs."

  • "This restaurant offers the finest wine selection, exquisite gourmet meals, awesome service and quaint ambience. We travel to Europe often and every time we go to this restaurant, we are transported to Paris, in an upscale restaurant with English speaking waiters. We had a good friend from France join us for dinner the other night and he concurred that this restaurant was as good as any fine dining restaurant in Paris or Toulouse."

  • "What a delight to have such a fine establishment just minutes away from home1 I introduced a friend to this hidden treasure and she was delighted as well."

  • "After a "cold" reception, the service and the food were excellent, except for the house salad, which was completely bland. The flat steak and the lobster tail were outstanding."

  • "We have enjoyed great lunches here over the last two years so we invited friends to join us for dinner. We were there on a busy Saturday night which may explain the soup that was delicious but only lukewarm. Two of us had the fish--small portions but nicely presented and was ok--the best choice. One of us ordered the rack of lamb---such a tiny serving that it was difficult to cut away from the bone to eat since it was so small. One of us ordered the flat iron steak which was very small and tough--served over chestnuts that were mealy tasting. Dinner was expensive and unimpressive. May return for lunch sometime but definitely not for dinner."

  • "One of our favorite places to go. Great food, great wine. We always have a good time when we come here. And we like that they change up the menu too."

  • "Hopefully it was just understaffing on a holiday, but I had a disappointing Valentines dinner. I had not been there for quite a while, decided to take my wife for V-day. We saw our waiter once all night, had to keep asking the bus boys for service. We had a question about the dessert menu, no one ever returned to answer. The overall meal was average, my steak was rather tough and served lukewarm. For a restaurant of their reputation I expected much more :("

  • "We've eaten at this restaurant many times and have usually enjoyed outstanding offerings but unfortunately, our latest experience here was quite disappointing. The green salad and beet salad were ok, but boring. I longed for more than a few specks of goat cheese in my beet salad and the mandarine orange slices, while adding a nice citrus punch, detracted from the experience with their thick, chewy membranes. The steak was again, ok, but one expects more. The sea bass was very fishy tasting and it seems the chef attempted to cover for this with a high dose of salt. The vegetable served with the sea bass resembled an artichoke but was tough and bitter. The fresh bread was a welcome addition since I felt there wasn't much else to eat."

  • "Prix Fixe Menu was VERY good! Roasted Cauliflower Soup and Prime Flat Iron Steak was marvelous and the service attentive and relaxed. Wine pairing is highly recommended....excellent complement to each course with helpful explanations of wine selections (grape variety, vineyard, vintage, region, climate, characteristics, etc.) Maple Panna Cotta dessert was light and delicious."

  • "We have been coming to the Brasserie for years. It is one of our favorites in all of the San Diego area. Its a little pricey as a routine restaurant for most, but in actual value it probably can't be beat."

  • "I was very pleased with my dish, my service received, and my overall experience at this restaurant. Went for my first time the day before Christmas and will soon return. The restaurant is on the second floor, it has dimmed lighting to enhance the mood and well experienced waiters. It is also not directly on a main street, which I love, if you are looking for it you will find it within the industrial buildings."

  • "Overall we enjoyed our time and the food was good. However, I would rate our server as fair with a very low customer service attitude. We were in the restaurant from 11:30am to 2:45pm as it was our yearly Christmas lunch. During this time, he stopped by once, he did not offer to refill drinks or coffee and was very disinterested. When you spend $127.00 on lunch, I do expect more from the wait staff. And we had to flag him down to get the bill. I have always experienced good customer service in your restaurant but this time was quite poor. Kathleen Grisez"

  • "We were so excited to find this gem hidden near our office. We almost missed it because it is in an office park but then decided to go back and try to find it, so glad we did. Service was excellent and food was excellent."

  • "I went especially for the venison and I was not disappointed. The duck my wife enjoyed was also perfectly done. If it were not for it's location, this place would be packed every night."

  • "This was one of many times at Wine Sellars. Having lived in San Diego I make it a point of taking an evening in this lovely restaurant and great wine shop. They did not deceive. Wonderful dinner for 2. Outstanding tuna tartare and brussel sprouts were energizing appetizers. The duck leg confit and NZ venison were out of this world. Wine recommendations were perfect. And then, always the pleasure to shop for wines one will not find on the East Coast."

  • "I always enjoy coming here. It's quiet, very clean and the meal lived up to my expectations. Not even Morton's can serve up a most tender and flavorful filet. The service could use a little tweaking, but overall it was a wonderful culinary experience. Thank you."
