The Wine Kitchen on the CreekMay 18th, 2013Food was excellent as well as the presentation. Very nice place to take a date. The atmostsphere was very vibrant and the location was good.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMSatisfying and surprising....a gem! This is a kitchen that knows what its doing. The food and the service were top notch. We were there for Mother's Day brunch (a day that stresses many kitchens to the max) and found they were more than up to the challenge. The cornmeal pancakes were fluffy and nutty with that light, but rich, taste of corn. A hint of vanilla made them unforgettable and the sprinkling of huckleberries on top added just the right amount of fruity sweetness. The quiche of the day was kale, bacon, and scallion. The crunchy/flaky crust encased a lightly creamy filling that was not too overly cheesy (a mistake made by many kitchens). I could go on and on (and did, but my review was too long so I had to cut it!). Suffice to say, this place is a gem.....go!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMother's Day BrunchWK's brunch menu offerings are amazing. Highly recommend!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMA little pricey but very goodThe dishes were relatively small for the price, but the menu was very thoughtful. Another vegetarian/vegan option would be wonderful. Great wine list (obviously).5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Mother's Day Ever!My husband and I along with two special friends, had a wonderful meal on Mother's Day, possibly the worst day of the year for dining out. The server was very knowledgable, attentive but not hovering, and the food was outstanding! Everyone enjoyed their meal and the delicious wine. Everyone agreed that the service and meal were not the norm for this very busy day. I usually avoid eating out on Mother's Day and will postpone the celebration to the following weekend, but not any more, we will definately return to the Wine Kitchen often and especially on Mother's DAy!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMStart to finish a great meal.Start to finish a great meal. One of several excellent restaurants in downtown Frederick. We will definitely be returning.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat dinnerLow key downtown Frederick place with great food. But I have been there three times and always miss out on the lamb belly!!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, wonderfully prepared! One of the best meals we have had in Frederick! We had coconut/carrot soup, beet salad, Atlantic Char,
and fish/chips. Just terrific. Server made a lot of good suggestions. Can't wait to return!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGraet Restaurant in FrederickOutstanding food, creative menu, extensive wine list, interesting sampler choices, excellent service.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGourmet on Carroll CreekWander through lovely Frederick and then settle in to a table at the charming Wine Kitchen and enjoy a delightful meal. The food is creative, the wine, perfect, and the service as friendly as the setting. Whether it is a snowy evening by the fire or a summer evening out on their patio, you will not be disappointed.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMI wish I'd ordered the filet. My wife ordered a filet, which was divine. My strip/loin was less so. Expertly cooked, but so filled with gristle that it was difficult to enjoy many of the pieces I cut. still our appetizers were wonderful (oysters, cheese sampler, ramp biscuits) and the mash and beans that accompanied the beef were outstanding. We enjoyed our wine flights immensely (glad we weren't driving) The whole experience was certainly 5 star, but I wish I'd ordered the filet.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Place - Will Go BackThe restaurant has a hip, modern feel inside. We were seated promptly. Our waiter, Matthew, was fantastic, very attentive but gave us enough time to have a leisurely dinner and let our food settle before the next course came on. Highlights: The wine samplers were great, the local beet salad was fantastic, and the new york strip with onions and roasted mushrooms was divine. Also the Milk Chocolate pot au creme is a must have for dessert. Negatives (and these are nit picky because this place was great): The cheese platter was good but all of the cheeses were soft cheeses. It would be nice to have a little more variety. My husband's steak was slightly over cooked. I wish there were more dessert options although the one we had was great4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent as UsualWe had an excellent meal and experience. This was not the first time we have dined at the Wine Kitchen on the Creek, and base on our experiences, we had high expectations. They were certainly met.
They have a great selection of wine flights, and I recommend those if you want to try several wines at a reasonable price.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMA 19th Birthday to RememberPerhaps the company played a large role but, it was my girlfriend's 19th birthday and I can rarely recall a venue so perfectly matched for an event.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMDon't miss this when in FrederickOutstanding experience. Creative meals and superbly prepared. Staff was helpful friendly attentive and energetic. Management is engaged and delivers food and conversation. Loved it will return.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMA Great PlaceYum. Yum-yum-yum. If you're in Frederick, you won't be disappointed. While I've had a few items that were "meh" on previous visits (like some odd braised shrimp thing--what was I thinking? Tasty green chile/coconut sauce, but who wants soggy *braised* shrimp?), this time I hit the jackpot. Every salad I've tried has been fresh & delicious, but the beet salad is gorgeous. The trio of charcuterie selections was amazing & served with wildly tasty pickled veggies, house-made mustard, & red onion jam. We ate every molecule! Then we went simple w/ french-dip burgers & they were crazy good... Crazy good. Of course the wine is excellent & it is fun to do the tasting flights, but the staff really seems to want you to be happy & that goes a long way.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMYUM AND FUN!We had a fantastic time. We didn't want to leave, even though we were going to see a show. The food was incredible. Staff was helpful and friendly!!!4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMexcellent food.great service.lovelyexcellent food.great service.lovely ambiance.and the wine list affordable.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMTotally positive experience.Totally positive experience. Very interesting menu. The food was all prepared perfectly, all fresh and delicious . The bacon biscuits with maple butter were absolutely out of his world. Very cool wine tasting option at a really reasonable price. Wonderful selection of wines. Note to other diners: when coming to a restaurant that advertises that wine is it's specialty, GET A BABYSITTER! While the staff couldn't be nicer or more accommodating, this is not a place for little children. There was another couple with a baby when we were there and thankfully only a few shreiks came from their direction. But even a few shrieks can ruin the moment of enjoying the wine and of course, the wonderful food.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMHad a group of 7 celebratingHad a group of 7 celebrating my twin sons 29th birthday. We were in a semi private room so noise was not an issue. The waiter was very knowledgable and great to interact with about the food. The food was very good. Couple people commented that the portions seemed a little small and that it had taken awhile to get our food but my wife and I will definitely be going back.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, beautifully presented.Great food, beautifully presented. Now that Volt no longer serves lunch, I'm glad Wine Kitchen continues to offer a two-course fixed-price option. It's a lovely treat. I also appreciate the option to get a small tasting of wine at lunch, as a full pour is usually more than I want at that time.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMNever a complaint. John, MatthewNever a complaint. John, Matthew & Scott make this a wonderful destination.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AM3 LADIES CELEBRATED A TRIPLE3 LADIES CELEBRATED A TRIPLE BIRTHDAY . WE EACH CHOSE A DIFFERENT MENU ITEM AND EVERYONE THOUGHT THEIRS WAS THE BEST. WE SHARED A POT D'CREME AND WITH THE AGE APPROPRIATE CANDLE IT WAS PERFECT. THANKS TO ALL WHO MADE IT A MEMORABLE EVENT.
WE ARE STILL TALKING ABOUT IT.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMMy only complaint is thatMy only complaint is that to get to the restaurant from the garage, you have to go in an office building, up in an elevator, and back outside. When we left, the door to the office building was locked. As we stood there in the rain trying to figure out which way to go, someone from the restaurant came out with a key and let us into the building.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMEach dish was prepared withEach dish was prepared with careful consideration of the blending of ingredients. A splash of green goddess dressing on kale and the julienne granny smith apples a perfect combination. Definitely will return and bring friends.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWould go AgainA fun restaurant with an exciting menu, set on an intr-city canel with great ambiance. Unusual combinations of tastes. The wine selection was good. As an apatizer we had the cold meat selections as well as the tuna tar-tar with pistachios. We particularly enjoyed the chicken liver pate as well as the cured ham on the meat tray. The fish was wonderful.
For our main entre my wife enjoyed the scallops while I had the herb and lemon chicken which was cooked perfectly. Our daughter has the vegetable pot pie and ate every bite.
Our waitress was friendly and attentive. There is a larger seating area, but we were a group of six so sat in a semi-private room. Would go again.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMSwordfish and filet dishesSwordfish and filet dishes were both excellent. Wine flights and bottle lists are very good. Great place for a special dinner or small group dinner. Multiple visits and personal attention from owner and manager emphasized the great service.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was my second time atThis was my second time at this restaurant. I brought my close friend to celebrate her 50th birthday. I wanted to spoil her a bit and the Wine Kitchen succeeded. The food was excellent. I highly recommend it.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMRepeat Offender!!This was our second trip to the Wine Kitchen and I continue to be impressed. The menu was completely different, with only one or two items that carried over. I love that they use locally sourced ingredients. Everything was fresh and made to perfection. Lot's of detail in the plating as well as the flavor combinations. Five stars all the way!!3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time there. Very enjoyable.First time there. Very enjoyable. We tried several appetizers and a shared dessert in addition to entrees. Everything was tasty. Our server was very attentive and even managed to sell us a bottle of wine. We will be back, especially after the outdoor seating is available.
Entree selections were good. Prices varied from very afforadable to pricey.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMA rich eating adventure. The food though pricey was excellent! The 'Butcher's Cut' pork was indeed awesome. Would have liked to have seen more,or at least a few, common dishes in lieu of gourmet dishes. I.e. no regular tossed salads or common potatoes (baked ?) for the non adventurous diner.
Way over use of butter in the mashed potatoes and the overly rich Shepherd's Pie. Not for the tender stomach.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were there for our anniversary,We were there for our anniversary, and was made to feel special from the moment we arrived. The menu is outstanding, and the wine list very good. The flights of wine tastings are fun, also. I highly reccommend it!3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMDo pass it up!Been here many times. Always, excellent food & service! Excellent wine flights. Well worth going to, no matter which one of the soon to be three restaurants you go to, even though we drive from PA.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMLittle pricey overall. FoodLittle pricey overall. Food was great and presented well.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMSecond time eating here.Second time eating here. Excellent again! Wait Staff was very attentive, food was excellent, wines as usual were wonderful.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMWe have been to the Wine KitchenWe have been to the Wine Kitchen several times and find the food to be really good. The menu is varied and has something for everyone. We liked the fact that at dinner you could order anything from a corned beef sandwich to a salad to Lambs belly dinner. We especially enjoyed the taste menu for the wines; one of our party is a beer lover and he would have enjoyed the same taste menu opportunity for the beers.
We have dined outdoors and indoors; indoors got a bit noisy for dinner on a Saturday night, but we still enjoyed the evening.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst timeGreat setting for a date night out with my wife. Interesting food and flavors. Flights: Chardonnay and Spain w/ the wahoo fish special.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMBest of both worlds: food and wineOption of ordering flights of wine was great. Cheese and bread and curry cashews we chose as starters were excellent. The scallop entree was superb; almost loved the onions better than the scallops! Cannot wait to go back and try flights of aged single malt scotch! Very helpful, knowledgeable and friendly staff!3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMFriday night noise level extremeFriday night noise level extreme but it was happy hour and the fun was contagious. All the dishes served to our table of 4 were very flavor able but not overly spiced or salty. Nice variety of wine flights, of course!3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMReally enjoyed our dinnerReally enjoyed our dinner at the Wine Kitchen. Service was excellent and the food was outstanding. My wife and I each tried a flight of reds. The Petite Sirah's were excellent. The Pinot Noir's I tried were OK, but I am not a big Pinot fan. The ability to purchase a flight gave me the chance to try a few without having to purchase a glass or bottle and risk being disappointed. The wait staff was knowledgeable and professional while also being very personable which added to the experience.
You owe it to yourself to give this place a try.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMThank you John and Scott forThank you John and Scott for another enjoyable evening.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMFun new spot in FrederickWe went here for the first time and had a wonderful night! Even on a Tuesday the place had a decent crowd and wine flights were all $9, which was a really good deal on some of the pricier reds. I started with the Rolling out the Red Carpet flight with the appetizers then switched to a white flight (can't recall the name) when my scallops came out. Scallops were delicious and perfectly cooked. My boyfriend had the short ribs, which he couldn't finish (great portion). He had the second half on a sandwich the next day and still said it was delicious! Also, many of the tables have lovely views of Carroll Creek, which has lights and fountains and is very picturesque. All in all, a very cute spot with a fun vibe and great food/wine!3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Sunday brunchDrove in from Northern Virginia to have lunch as part of Frederick Restaurant Week only to learn that they were only participating in the dinner discount offerings. Enjoyed our brunch at this fun, vibrant spot. Kale salad was wonderful as was the maple bacon and Irish eggs Benedict.3/10/2013 12:00:00 AMI went here for my father'sI went here for my father's birthday. A group of six of us happened to make the reservation during Restaurant Week. We took advantage of their specials and each had appetizers to share, an entree, and dessert. I've been here a couple times so I went right into trying different types of wines. They serve them in "flights" for tasting, which means you can taste three at a time. They give you quite a bit for the tastings, and an adorable card to read descriptions about the wine at the same time!
Service is great. Food.. even better. I've tried scallops, corned beef sandwich, fillet mignon, salads, desserts, appetizers. ALL delicious! :)3/9/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food is always goodWe've been here many times and are always happy with the experience. Food is always great. Wine selection is great as expected. Would love to see more Belgian beers added to the list.
The only disappointment is the addition of the TV to the bar. There are very few TV free restaurants in Frederick and this used to be one of them.3/8/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife and I enjoyed ourMy wife and I enjoyed our "date night" at The Wine Kitchen on the Creek. The food was outstanding. I had the beef short rib. It was tender and tasty. My wife had the lamb belly which seem to be a small portion and had a lot of fat. But again the taste was great. Dessert was fantastic! We each took advantage of the "taste all 3" of wine. We would be happy to go back for our next date night, but would ask for a specific table as there were other open tables and we were sat directly next to other another occupied table. In that sense it was not as romantic of a date night as we would have liked. All in all we would highly recommend this place.3/5/2013 12:00:00 AMMichael always goes out ofMichael always goes out of his way to make sure we have a special time at his Frederick restaurant. Over the past year service here has improved markedly. On this visit it was flawless in keeping with the food. Michael's new GM John is also very personable and our waiter was GREAT. If you have not tried their new butcher's cut (changes frequently) meat selections you are missing out on a great treat. This is the perfect place for a special evening including gourmet food, fine wine and rare spirits without being overly formal.2/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
