As a a visitor to the Salem area, I searched a few local food blogs for recommendations. The Wild Horse Cafe did not disappoint. The food was incredibly good, with a good variety of dishes. The short ribs and lamb are both great choices, and the Farm Plate was a really great vegetarian option. The food can be considered extremely well done comfort food. We were there on a Tuesday evening in the off season, so it was very quiet. The service was wonderful and the restaurant is very comfortable. The bar was also well stocked, with cocktail specials and a decent wine list.

Server was very attentive and quite pleasant. Drink were delish, as always! Started with potato nachos, always a favorite! For dinner broiled or baked cod or haddock was good, but tended to be a bit Salty. Prime rib special was cooked rare and was very tasty, however it was not remotely warm at first bite. Didn't keep me from swallowing it whole tho! Just thought you should know 😀

My wife and I went to dinner here, using a Groupon that was about to expire. The original intent was for a date night, but given the time pressure we ended up bringing our boys, ages 10 and 12. We had a really, nice evening! While they offer kids' selections (pizza, pasta), we splurged and let the boys order from the regular menu. The fried oysters were amazing, as were all three entrees - Salmon, short ribs, steak, and rack of lamb.

This used to be an amazing restaurant, now not! Cheese and antipasti plate had 2 pieces of brie, a few pieces of baby asparagus with a rosemary sour cream sauce that was way too strong and then something we could not identify that was absolutely disgusting! After asking the waitress what it was, we find out that it was bluefish pate. What about that says antipasti and why would that not be identified in the menu. She said it was the special. I asked what the difference was with that one and the one from the menu and she could not answer and got flustered. Rack of lamb that was just ok and not very flavorful. Wild rice that also had no flavor and was very watery. Some steak tips so fatty that he could not even cut them with a steak knife.

  • A Wonderful Gallop!

There's nothing quite as beautiful as the scene of wild horses as they gallop across the plain...but quite close to that beauty is the menu at this Beverly Restaurant that pays homage to the great moniker The Wild Horse. From the attractive artwork, to the low-lit cozy dining room, and the welcoming bar area, the restaurant is an oasis on the bustling Cabot Street. The menu is wonderful. We had tough time deciding but eventually enjoyed fried oysters, rack of lamb with Moroccan spices, cooked perfectly and delicious, and swordfish with a delicious peach sauce. Will absolutely return. BTW: I list it as "quite" but, it was a Sunday night when I was there...

The food was very good, but the service was as slow as could be. Well over two hours from start to finish. The server was just too flighty, didn't know the menue well and didn't offer to go back to the kitchen to get an answer. She was pleasant, but clueless! Examples, didn't know all the salad dressings, didn't know if the salmon could be prepared another way, forgot to ask which sides we wanted, took her for ever between each course to comeback to the table. House and Ceasar salad were very good. Lamb Lollies and Shrimp Taco appetizer were great. Salmon entree very good as well as the braised ribs. Rubarb Crisp was way too watery with almost no crisp.Would go back in hopes of getting a different server. It did seem like others were better.

We had a great evening. I love to cook so when we go out, it is important that the food be really good. It is also important that the servers be good at what they do. In this case, they were trying but it was seemed like they were not well-trained. And we waited a long time for our main courses. the table next to us waited a long time for their check.

Friendly, courteous service. The creme brûlée was excellent. The main meal food was good but not great. The over stuffed chairs may work well in the living room but they are low, soft and uncomfortable to sit in during dinner. We had to change our wine order three times because wines listed on the menu were no longer available or not in stock.

Nice variety of breakfast and lunch appetizers and entrees. The savory skillet has outstanding flavor. The sweet skillet (apple) sounds like it is also a winner. Bloody Mary has a great combination of horse radish and spices with a big celery stick. Cuban sandwich, duck wings appetizer with Korean sauce & burger dishes are all extraordinary, very tasty and very memorable. So are the fries and home fries - nice flavor, nice salt and nice crunch. Every item - even the fries - is worthy of a trip to the Wild Horse. Very friendly and knowledgable waitress and chef. Very comfortable setting with big plush seats. Easy parking across the street. Go try it; you'll love it and won't be disappointed. We'll be back to try more.

We came upon the Wild Horse by accident and were very happy we did. A decent beer list, imaginative cocktail list, and good food. There weren't a lot of food choices, but the sock-eyed salmon and dips we had were both very good. We would go there again if we were in the area.

We had a Gift Certificate.1 The ambiance was perfect, our waitress Ashley was very friendly and super accommodating. The owner was super friendly as well as helpful in helping me find the perfect wine. Our meal consisted of; duck winglets they were actually drumsticks very tasty however over cooked. We both had the steaktips which were over cooked and not very tasty. The wedge salad was delicious, the Brussels sprouts with goat cheese, I had these as my side these were unbelievably delicious. My husband had broccoli and masculine salad that he said were ok. Dessert; apple crisp I'm not sure this was homemade I feel like apples were from a can. Overall I would try another and hope food was a lil better maybe they just had an off night.

We are always trying out restaurants and we came across this restaurant using Groupon and looked at the menu and liked what we saw and gave a shot. Well, the food was excellent. Fried oysters appetizers was lightly battered and melted into your mouth with each bite. We both ordered rack of lamb and they were delicious. My wife enjoyed the watermelon martini (their special drink) and their service was attentive, but not intrusive and very friendly. With the Groupon coupon, it was a very good experience. Otherwise, it would have been a bit pricey.

It was our first time here and let's just say they didnt give us a reason to hurry back. The food was mediocre and pricey for the quality of the meal. The twice baked potato was like mashed potato in the skin. The grilled broccoli was hard and tasteless. The tuna was a little dry with little sauce with it.

Slow service initially because not enough staff on hand because we were told no one wanted to work on the Sunday of a holiday weeekend. Once we received service everything was timely. The initial wait was long however and she apologized. The flat bread special app. was good although I would have wanted it with meat but my wife did not. The Morocan seasoning on the pork chops was delicious. The wild salmon was cooked med rare as siggrsted and the spices on top added a lot of flavor. Great meal and the dessert was apple cinnamon crisp for two. It was huge and we enjoyed it except it had a bit too much of the sauce and not enough ice cream.

The food at the wildhorse cafe was delicious. Starting with their homemade bread which was thick and nutty served with a fabulous butter and honey. Our appetizer plate had an amazing truffle oil cheese with a grilled portabella and some great crostinis. The entrees were obviously the highlight of the meal, we both got grilled meat with sides which seems like their specialty. My rack of lamb was done perfectly and was unbelievably tender. My girlfriend's tuna was also amazing. They give you 2 fairly large sides which were also very good and somewhat unexpected from an expensive eatery, sometimes expensive places seem to skimp out on serving size.

Food was good. cooked to order. Portions only okay. Steak tips only came w/ four. For the prices, would have liked a salad with the meal and not have to pay extra. Not very crowded for a nice beautiful Saturday night. Not in the greatest area, so maybe this is why. Service a little slow. Waitress had many tables, it looked like. took a while to take our order.

The food was just okay. Fried oyster apps was tasty, although the oysters were tiny. Brussels with my rack of lamb entree were undercooked. Wild rice was a little mushy like it had been cooked in huge portions and left sitting. The t-bone and rack of lamb were fine, but the price was for both entrees was for quantity not quality. Waiter forgot my wine- needed to ask again and that was well after we had finished eating the appetizer. Little attention from the waiter until after we received our entrees.

They butterfly'd the filet and doused it in bbq sauce... its a sin to do that to such a good piece of steak. At the table they sat us in, one of the chairs was like a lounger that belonged in a living room. Definitely inappropriate for dinner - could barely reach the table to eat. When we asked to move, the hostess looked very taken aback and said 'all of our tables have chairs like that' - and didn't move us. Would not recommend this place for anything but a good martini. Those they did right.
