We usually come here for dinner but this time came for the brunch. This is my wife's favorite restaurant in the area, mainly for the ambience. It's a beautiful old Victorian in midtown Detroit. Anyway, the Sunday brunch spread was incredible: seafood bar, carving station with prime rib and ham, omelette station, tilapia, chicken, salmon, salads, and an incredible dessert bar. The only problem is they kind of ruined some of the dishes by letting them dry out under the heat lamps. We've come here for dinner and found the food, service, and ambience to be very good. If you come for the brunch, avoid the foods that have been allowed to sit under the lamps.

One of the best experiences I have had at any dining establishment, wonderful atmosphere, had one of the greatest waiters you could ask for. I proposed to my girlfriend here when we went, and it couldnt have been a better place with better people. I think the prices were very reasonable here too.

My husband and I love coming here. From the mansion itself to the service and food, we've never had a bad experience. Also, the ghost bar is amazing. We always get served the most amazing drinks and the bartenders are awesome! The only thing that I will say is that we just took our parents there last weekend and my dad thought that it was odd that they were conducting tours in the rooms where everyone was eating. It was more than a little awkward. But that has been my only complaint all of the times we've been there. I love this place!

We went for restaurant week in Detroit. We were celebrating a birthday. The Whitney is a historical landmark and the architecture is beautiful. The view, however, is not so nice. Service and food were outstanding. We ordered a bottle of wine, a little over priced, but restaurant wine usually is. I think it's a shame how restaurants charge so much for the same bottle of wine you can buy at the store. Another quest warned us that there was a lady int he restroom trying to collect tips that was not authorized to be there. We also were taken back by the valet charging $6 to park upfront.

Regretfully, I was extremely disappointed. Treated a friend for a birthday brunch, at her request. We both frequented the Whitney several years ago when it was pristine. The entire building in/out needs extreme TLC. Frankly, it was dirty both in/out. The brunch was "maybe" comparable to a Big Boy brunch. I hope the present owners have plans to clean it up or there's an investor out there willing to do so! The Whitney is another lost "Detroit Gem" that needs to be brought back to life.

Our experience was amazing. We were sat in a private room. Our service was absolutly amazing! Phillip made our night. He not only gave stellar suggestions, he gave us a history of the Whitney, regaled us with ghost stories and encouraged us to peek around and check out the areas. It was such a fun night. You would think going to an old mansion for dinner would feel stuffy but we felt right at home.

I've worked in the area for years but surprisingly had never even been inside. The mood is very relaxing with the dim lit dining room. My food was ok but the bottle of Moscoto was unbelievable. Our waiter was great, very personable and more than accommodating. We did not venture upstairs to the bar area. It's a hidden treasure in Detroit that must be experienced at least once!

I was really excited to eat sy the whitney but the food was just ok. I'll rephrase that. The steak was perfect. But the fact they put the steak on top of a thick cut raw tomato and some bland mashed potatoes was a real turn off. The ambience is lovely. Im into historic settings and the whitney is beautifully handcrafted. The salad appetizer was nothing special and neither was the sorbet for dessert. I would venture here again but not on my dime. I'll chalk the unimpressive food up to it being restaurant week and that everything seemed mass produce for the occasion. Maybe it'll be better next time. But def get the steak.

The meal was indeed outstanding. I enjoyed every bite of the steelhead trout. Which is saying a lot since I prefer virtually anything to fish. I ordered it on purpose. If it was good then everything else well.. The skin was crunchy and tasty. The almondine sauce was a wonderful buttery mix that melted in your mouth with each bite. The bed of greens gave an ever so slight snap. The spinach salad and chocolate mousse, while tasty, were forgettable. I had a good time, had outstanding food, but, The Whitney is out of my price range. Only reason I went was because it was Detroit Restaurant Week. The only reason I could ever see returning is if my meal was paid for by a corporate expense account.

I hadn't been there in years, but The Whitney did not disappoint. Service was excellent. Our waiter even gave us a little tour of the building with some historical facts. The food was awesome. Even at the usual expensive prices we will be back, just because the food and service are worth the price. And as an extra, when I mentioned to the waiter I was disappointed scallops were not on the restaurant week menu, he brought me one with the dinner I ordered! I had stayed away for a long time because I wasn't sure about the "old house" ambiance, but this was such a great experience, I can't wait to go back.....and I also enjoyed the piano player in the foyer!

My wife and I went to The Whitney for our 10 year anniversary during restaurant week. We really enjoyed ourselves and the food too. While the portion sizes were on the small side to accommodate the price offered, we found ourselves having more of a right sized portion instead of the oversized portion you typically get at most restaurants. Our waitress was also excellent. She was very personable with us and was very accommodating when the bottle of wine we selected was not available. We also enjoyed our self-guided tour of the mansion and enjoyed learning more about its history.

My husband and I came here for brunch on our anniversary weekend. Perhaps I'm old fashioned, but I still believe that you should dress up for Sunday Brunch - too many patrons were in jeans! The wait staff was well dressed and friendly. It was nice to be told about the mansion and to be shown some of its cool but creepy secret passageways in our dining room. We sat over the garden, which was a great view! I was very pleased as we did have dining reservations. The food was very good, but traditional and not exactly adventurous. Still definitely the best brunch I have had in Detroit.

From the beginning, the ambiance was just to my liking being in the "music room". The walls were designed with musical instruments which i thought was very beautiful. In that room, the scene was very romantic and private. Going up to the 2nd and 3rd floor, there is a bar and rooms where small groups or couples can relax with a drink. I thought it was a great experience.

I took my date to The Whitney during Restaurant Week in Detroit. I've dined at The Whitney before, many years previous, and it was divine. I can't say the same about this visit. I don't expect the BEST service during Restaurant Week, but I do expect it to at least live up to the reputation of the restaurant. The food was cold, portions tiny. They were out of almost every wine that was served by the glass. The server seemed distracted and wasn't very communicative regarding what wine was available. It seemed VERY unorganized and it seemed EXTREMELY empty for how the reservations were represented. I assumed it was packed based on how difficult it was to get a reservation at a decent time. It was empty. Please save this gem.
