Diner Reviews
  • "Overall, the experience was very good. Excellent server was knowledgable, freindly amd prompt. Food was good, exept kitchen was very slow, especially since the dining room was sparcely occupied and diners not in abundance. Beef up the help in the kitchen if you wan't to get throught the busy summer with minimal hassles fom customers. Main dining room very loud. Acoustics not so good."

  • "My husband and I had been here for drinks, but never dinner. For our anniversary we chose to try it. There was a lot of noise from the bar area. Food was good enought. Not Stella. Prices were decent. We will come again when the weather improves to sit on the veranda. Wait service was good."

  • "I would like to see vegan or vegetarian food on the menu. Please don't say there's salad - that's really boring. Beautiful place. Hard to hear in a group during lunch."

  • "I dined alone. I reserved my table via Open Table which was simple. I was happy to be seated on the deck (I requested a window seat and that was not mentioned so unsure whether staff saw that note) which was closed in with plastic and heated to a warm but comfy temp despite the very cold night. My wait and bus staff were excellent ~ attentive, friendly, easy going. I was disappointed in the menu. There really wasn't an entree that I desired. I didn't focus on it too much other than to choose a cup of minestrone soup ($4 and tiny) which was delicious with the requested hot sauce and parmesan. I got the burger with tomato/garlic/bleu cheese confi and it was outstanding. I'd like to see a different menu by the same chef."

  • "We were a party of six on a Thursday night arriving early at 5:30. We all ordered from the Prix Fixe Menu (which we had to ask for from our server). We enjoyed a nice salad with balsamic, cherry tomatoes and cucumbers or the caesar with lovely cheese crisps set vertically on the plate to give the salad height. We ordered scrod with asparagus, lasagna bolognese, pasta prima vera, and inside out chicken pot pie which was chicken and vegetables topped with a piece of puff pastry. Everyone enjoyed their food. Dessert was a chocolate chip cookie with vanilla bean ice cream served on a mini cast iron skillet. The service was super - very attentive waiter and not a long wait as I had read in another review. Loved the valet parking option."

  • "The Wharf offered wonderful service, attentive wait staff and delicious food. In our party of 4, all had seafood with good reviews. The appetizers were especially good, arriving quickly. The appetizer portions were generous and delightfully presented."

  • "My boyfriend & I went to The Wharf for the first time for Valentine's day dinner. We sat outside (the porch was heated & covered). The view was great and I can definitely imagine this place being AWESOME during the summer time since it's right on the water. The food was good and it came quickly so there wasn't much of a wait between courses. Overall, I was very happy & I'll definitely be back when it's warmer so I can enjoy more of the view!"

  • "The prime rib my husband had, had more fat then meat and was maybe 1 inch thich. My scallops were not very good. The butternut squash soup had no flavor and tasted water down."

  • "This would be a great place for many reasons. You can see the water from virtually every table, the bar area is separate from the dining area and is large so you could go casual and eat there or have a very nice meal in the dining area, there is a large porch that is enclosed and heated in the winter and colder times. Food was excellent and not too pricey considering the quality (entrees were anywhere from $14-26), not too many choices but certainly enough, service was very good and very friendly. Not too many wines by the glass but enough, lots of wines by the bottle, plenty of beers on tap and plenty of cocktails. 2nd time we have been and would definitely go again. Worth going to."

  • "What a gorgeous place to dine. I was so excited to come here for Valentines day. I could only get reservations for 8:15 but we came at 7:15 hoping to get in early but would be content to just hang out at the bar and have a drink and wait for our reservation. The hostess said we would have to wait that, there was no way to get in early. Weird though half of the tables were empty. Plenty of servers. I read the reviews and they are spot on the service is painfully slow and the food is good but make sure you are in no hurry! The prices are reasonable and the bartenders are very pleasant. The waiters seemed very flustered. If this was the height of the summer season I think I foresee mass chaos. Management needs to implement a better system!"

  • "We were looking for a Valentine's Day dinner. I saw the pastry chef here on TV describing their desserts so we booked for $50 a person for four courses. Lobster Bisque or Minestrone/Caesar or Mizuna Salad/Red Scallops or Prime Rib/Mascarpone or Chocolate Bomb. We tried them all. Only the soups were ordinary. The prime rib was very well done. There was a nice view to the water and also of a lovely fireplace. When we left they were getting ready for dancing upstairs. People were in a good mood. I did not expect much but would definitely go back in the nice weather."

  • "I had the meatloaf with creamed spinach, mashed potatoes and drizzled onions and it was delicious - and the right proportion; my husband had the roasted pepper soup and the butternut ravioli and he said is also was delicious. So there was no issue with their food, but they obviously were short staffed because we waited almost a half hour for our food and when it arrived I could tell it had probably been sitting on the counter waiting to be delivered to our table. It was not hot but luke warm which was fine by me. Our waitress was going at a fast pace but did not provide the kind of service we are used to. Other than that, it was a good experience."

  • "The Madison Beach Hotel has been positioned as a high end property. I thought that positioning would extend to The Wharf and was expecting a special dining experience. It was not. The menu was dominated by seafood, which was a drawback for my wife as she is not a big fish eater. Nevertheless, I thought the food was pretty good, which was a relief since I had heard the opposite from many who had eaten there in 2013. To sum up The Wharf: Nothing fancy but well executed."

  • "Our table server had little knowledge of the menu and had to go to the kitchen to get our questions answered. The atmosphere would have been heightened by candles on the table and dimmed lighting. Our meals were well prepared and tasty. Would have liked to have been finished with my appetizer before the salad came to the table and with the salad before the dinner arrived."

  • "Food/ambiance/festive atmosphere, good. Served by uninformed argumentative waitress. We were right and after consulting with a colleague, the waitress said, "They would honor" what we argued about. Point is, wasn't about "honoring" but about providing what guest had signed up/would pay for as advertised on the hotel's website, on the board at entrance to Wharf and by hostess who called earlier that day to confirm reservation. An additional argument and again waitress was wrong. By end of meal she said, "Glad we're all happy now." Annoying! I'd like to believe she tried to be pleasant after arguments and we remained in good spirits but while mistakes happen, restaurant staff should check rather than argue without knowledge with the guests."

  • "New Years day was oour second time visiting the restaurant. View is spectacular. Room is pleasant. Would have been nice to be offered a choice of still or tap water. The busser served tap without asking. More than willing to pay extra for sparkling. Restaurant also missed out on the extra revenue. The hostess noticed we hadn't been waited on a couple of times and helped make sure our orders got taken and served. May have been a new waitress (hope that was the case)."

  • "Nice location but the server was "abrupt" when it came to serving style. We went for New Year's Eve dinner. Dinner offer was to include a bottle of wine for the table. Although we ordered an additional type of wine separately, we did receive the bottle they were to include as well...later, the waiter came to us and asked if he could get a glass of the wine for another customer as they really wanted to try it, and they had run out of the wine to be served with the dinner offer. Without even saying "yes", he ended up going to get another glass to share the wine. It was quite a bold approach. We ended up leaving 1/2 the bottle with the other customer as a kind gesture."

  • "First and foremost, the food was excellent. My son and I dined there Christmas Day. The portions were perfect-just enough- not overwhelming, and each course was delicious, and left you wanting more but eagerly anticipating the next course! I remarked to my friends afterward how friendly I found each and every server we encountered- even the ones who hadn't served us! Everyone was friendly and helpful. I'm so glad to have discovered this restaurant!"

  • "The location of this restaurant (part of a hotel) is terrific- in a quiet residential area that is right on Long Island Sound. The food was fine and the atmosphere of the Dining Room was nice. If it was during the summer and one was dining on the terrace it would be awesome."

  • "The best thing about the Wharf is the view -- the setting on the beach is spectacular. The food is ok and overpriced. The service is ok. The fire was roaring which was nice on a cold day. Our salads and sandwiches were nothing special and tolerable because of the water view."

  • "I'd seen good reviews of the Wharf at the Madison Beach Hotel since its renovation and had been wanting to 'check it out'. A recent anniversary provided the excuse and am happy we made those reservations for lunch. The food was really good - maybe not extraordinary - but really good, well prepared, well presented. The service was very, very good - that staff is very well trained. We'll try to come up with excuses to make the more-than-an-hour drive down for lunch as often as we can!"

  • "I went to The Wharf last spring and had a wonderful dinner, then went back next day for lunch and that was fantastic. However, this weekend was disappointed. We started with charcuterie and cheese, too much Italian meats and not enough cheese. The dinner menu seemed limited to a point that nothing really appealed to me, there was something odd about each dish. There were 4 of us and we each chose a different entree. The best was my husband's meatloaf. I had pasta with rabe and sausage, it was extremely bland."

  • "Overall, had a really good experience at the Wharf! Really pretty restaurant with good service. We were a party of two and sat near the fireplace, which was really nice. We had tuna tartar-excellent! then shared the meatloaf and butternut squash ravioli. The meatloaf was great the ravioli only ok as the pasta was on the tough/chewy side. Cappachinos and pumpkin cheesecake for dessert and both of those were good. Overall, I would recommend the restaurant to others and would return-just fix up those ravioli's!"
