Diner Reviews
  • "Service was inviting and knowledgeable. At no time did our group feel rushed and waiter seemed quite agreeable to split the bills. The presentation of the meals was excellent and the menu was interesting, along with the quality of the food being very good and fresh tasting."

  • "Loved that their menu is all LOCAL! And I appreciated the drink pairings with the menu item. Great service and ambiance! I will dine here again!"

  • "Our first time at Westside Local, and it certainly WON'T be our last! This was amazing. Such a cute space in the middle of a unique neighborhood that was thriving and pumping with energy. We started off with the fries and dipping sauces (garlic was my favorite, but others were just as good). Next, entrees were the mac'n'cheese, Windhaven Burger, and the pasta in red pepper sauce w/ crispy trout. All were literally outstanding - I cannot express the flavor with justice. Only issue of the night was that we went on Sat after a First Friday and they seemed to be limited on some offerings. Other than that, we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly and will most certainly return. Glad we gave this a try and look forward to dining here again (soon)."

  • "First of all, my mother ordered several items off the appetizer list, one item being the baguette, which they came back and said was out and offered her the sesame crackers. She is of an age that bread just goes with the meal, and I think they could have offered other bread instead...they had bread for sandwiches and to go with the mussels. That said, she was disappointed, but said the crackers were good. There were 5 of us, each ordering something different and a bottle of wine. We just put the food in the middle of the table and shared everything. It was so much fun and it was kind of great to explore new flavors. We love it and enjoyed sharing wine and dessert. Thanks."

  • "Our experience at Westside was not enjoyable. The quaint restaurant was busy, but by no means full. We ordered after waiting several minutes for our water. About 30 minutes later we advised the server that we had a performance to attend. He assured us that our food would be out "soon." No food ever appeared despite repeated inquiries and more assurances that our order was very close to being plated. Meanwhile other later-arriving diners were being served food, while we were being served excuses. At the one-hour mark, we left, shaking our heads. The hostess made several excuses and blamed the server for not prioritizing his orders. The hostess did offer to comp a meal should we choose to return, something we will not be doing..."

  • "Thought we'd indulge in some of our favorites at Westside Local but discovered the menu had switched to spring last week. New things to try: chicken mole tacos and a meal-crowning blueberry creme brûlée. And why does a kale salad make you feel so virtuous and healthy, even with bacon bits laced throughout? I think it's the crunch factor. As always, a superb dining experience and the perfect prelude to an evening at the Kauffman Center."

  • "I had been hearing about Westside Local so was excited to give it a try with a group of friends for brunch. The staff was incredibly accommodating, as my reservation size changed multiple times. As a vegetarian, I was still overwhelmed by too many options. The veggie hash I ended up eating was good and not overly filling. I probably wouldn't order a Bloody Mary again, however. But that is my only complaint. Everyone was very pleased with their food and, again, the service was excellent. I will happily eat here again."

  • "I've been to Westside Local three times in the past, each during a different season/year, which means the menu has varied. Each time the food was excellent; my birthday dinner two weeks ago being no exception. I had the large size spinach salad with salmon which was not only delicious, but HUGE. Three members of my party had the soup of the day (a kale soup) which they all raved about. However, the highlight of dinner was the absinthe served traditionally, which if you've seen is a fun little show."

  • "I haven't had the opportunity to have dinner at The Westside Local yet, but I've had lunch there many times. Food is outstanding and service is great. I also love that Westside purchases their ingredients from so many local businesses. I've recommended Westside to many people."

  • "Even though my friends and I had all heard good things about Westside Local, none of us had been there. That unfortunate situation ended with a birthday lunch. Our first steps inside the door, we were charmed by the antique assemblage hostess desk, and surprised by how busy it was. Good thing we made reservations on Open Table. Our server, Courtney, took perfect care of us throughout. I couldn't resist the kale hummus, and it turned out to be the favorite thing we ordered. As the menu changes seasonally, I look forward to going back."

  • "Went to Westside Local from a friends recommendation. Had 6 ladies for brunch and we were all new here. Every dish we tried was absolutely amazing. It was great because the food was very approachable but still a little gourmet. Staff was very helpful and the energy was great. Felt comfortable talking and laughing but wasn't so loud you couldn't talk. We will all definitely return to this amazing neighborhood place! Can't wait for warm weather and sit in the back!"

  • "Paul, our server, was wonderful. He made several great menu recommendations and seemed to anticipate our needs. Food was delicious as always. We sat outside on a beautiful Saturday. The kitchen's exhaust fan noise was the only thing that kept it from being 5 stars for our visit. Will definitely be back."

  • "Three CMH volunteers meet monthly for dinner and this was my month to pick. The competition to pick a great place is a point of pride with each of us. My first experience was wonderful so I had no qualms about recommending The Westside Local for our outing. We usually choose several apps and an entree or two. All selections as well as our drinks were excellent. The wine our server suggested was such a hit that we snapped a pic so we could pick it up for home. Her knowledge, demeanor and attentiveness we perfect. Our consensus was that this is definitely worth telling others about and going back for more."

  • "A friend introduced us to Westside Local a little over a year ago, and we have made it one of our most frequent stops. Always great food, the wait staff is superb and very knowledgeable (their suggestions and opinions are always spot-on), and the ambience is comfortably neighborhoodish."

  • "I had come early expected somewhat slow service. Despite the winter snow the Westside Local filled quickly early on a Saturday. Server was helpful with suggestions and attentive. Our soups were hot and the Apple bread is a must try. My pork chop was done to perfectin and well presented. We were disappointed that the mussels were unavailable, but the fish was a reasonable substitute. Despite the curtained front-door, the weather swept inside make the location a bit chilly. I would recommend this restraurant especially for those trying to limit their gluten intake--lots of options while still good choices for others."

  • "Delighted to see this restaurant really thriving. Opens at 11a, and diners were there. At 11:30a when we arrived, all tables were full, and the flow continued for the 1 1/2 hours we were there. Good food, pleasant wait staff. Kale was an integral part of all our meals. (Last month humorist Dave Barry commented that until recently kale was a form of plant life used primarily for insulation!) I ate mine...tho I don't care for it...because it was innocuously stuffed into my very tasty Reuben sandwich! Portions are very large. We were three, and left with two boxes. Happiness is a restaurant box in your fridge. :>)"

  • "We had a fantastic dinner at the Westside Local. We got the kale salad, which was unbelievable. The other things we got were burgers and the winter quinoa. For dessert we got the apple bacon crisp and the coconut chocolate bread pudding. It is a week later and I haven't stopped thinking about how yummy that meal was. GO HERE!"

  • "Had a lovely and tasty experience at Westside Local during a recent visit. We wanted to hook up our server (fine sense of humor) with our son (who wasn't present) but she wasn't willing to move from the area quite yet. All our entrées were flavor treats and presented nicely. Splurged on dessert, and despite extra calories it was worth it. Was our second time there, aside from a quick stop once to pick up their *awesome fries. We'll certainly go again next time we're in town. After all, there is more food on the menu we haven't tried for heaven's sake. (*meant in the truest meaning of that word)"

  • "Love the westside local! We made a dinner of sharing apps and splitting the mussels - awesome food and sharing made our valentines dinner more intimate. Only minor complaint- sitting right by the kitchen where all we could see was the dishes being washed. But it's a small place and someone has to sit there. Will definately go back."

  • "My great-nephew came for a visit after a two year deployment overseas. He had never been to KC, so we had to take him on a tour of some of our favorite restaurants. That would not have been complete without a stop at the Westside Local."

  • "First time eating at Westside Local. Would definitely go again. The food was fantastic. A little chilly because we were seated by the door. Also the menu was pretty selective, wished for more options. Overall a wonderful dinner for my brothers birthday. Our server was fantastic and very knowledgable."

  • "Terrible service. Water wasn't refilled the entire night, became the running joke of the evening. How many times could we ask for water and be ignored. At dessert time one of our party was in the restroom so we asked if the waitress could wait to share the dessert options till everyone was there, especially the expectant mother. Waitress says I will just tell you the options and you can remember and tell her. The drinks were tiny. Margaritas were literally about 2/3 full in the cup. We asked for a full drink and the manager came out and offered to fill them up with fruit juice. Dinner was mediocre, not bad, but nothing special. For dessert we got an apple tart. It came out like a soup. I really think they might have forgot to cook it."

  • "Great location and dining experience for my wife and I with our two friends after a wonderful show at the Kauffman Center. We had been here previously only at lunch; so this was our first dinner experience. I had the trout. Top rating for taste, presentation, etc. My wife and her friend had the chicken pot pies. They were good but the pastry was not flaky and the carrots were under-cooked — not just al dente but tough, I'm sorry to say. My friend had a Summit Burger and a Boulevard KC Pils, which he loved. Excellent service. Unobtrusive. Excellent atmosphere. Thank you."

  • "There are lots of good foods at restaurants but for me not that many that I really crave. Westside Local is one of those places. The chicken pot pie was comfort food at it's best! Yum!! This was our first time at this restaurant, and we will definitely be back."

  • "We met friends from out of town. I think we all enjoyed our meals, but nothing was terrific. The room was very cold every time someone walked in. I wish we had been farther from the door. Our server was good but not great. We asked to see the brunch menu for future reference but she never brought it. Small things. We will certainly return, but this wasn't a particularly great meal. Which I had hoped it would be, since our friends are real foodies."
