A word from The Wellington
The Wellington boasts an exclusive, elegant, classic feel. The venue is often characterized as a fusion of New York cocktail lounge & San Francisco supper club ambiance.. The look suggests 2 a.m. at a private club of the 1920s where high rollers, musicians & socialites rendezvoused to celebrate luxurious vices. A flock of assorted chandeliers flies at various heights from the peaked ceiling and behind the five seat bar, glass shelves filled with fine liquors gleam in front of sparkling mirrors.

The Wellington's Menu is rooted in respectful, savvy reworkings of classic dishes. Along with organic produce from their own garden, perfectly charred, humanely raised beef, farm raised lamb, local fish and of course Beef Wellington, grace the menu. The Wellington offers a martini list awash in creativity and perfect wine pairings with over 40 choices, both domestic and international.

Even though there are only 10 tables in the entire restaurant, it still felt plenty big and very relaxing. The food was outstanding. Their signature dish, Beef Wellington, was incredible. Our server was warm, friendly and a pleasure to work with. This is a true "find" that we were lucky to locate with Open Table. We will return to this wonderful little restaurant, maybe on a night when they have live music and only NINE tables. :-)

This is 100% my kinda place. Tiny, tiny dining room, but super charming. Low lighting, which I personally did not find problematic (as some other reviewers did). My husband and I started with the mini bacon and eggs (two quail eggs baked in cream with toast and bacon jam). It was scrumptious. The rich creaminess of the eggs and sauce was perfectly balanced by the crunchiness of the toast and the salty/sweet smokiness of the bacon jam. Absolutely delectable. My husband ordered the filet and I ordered the beef wellington. His steak (ordered medium) was perfectly cooked, with the most delicious sear and accompanied by a wonderful red wine reduction. He ordered the lyonnaise potatoes as a side and they were tasty. The beef wellington was a masterpiece. The steak is cooked medium rare and was so tender I almost didn't need a knife. The pastry was perfectly browned, crispy on the outside and almost doughy (in a good way) on the inside. The sauteed veggies on the side were a delicious accompaniment. On a side note, I noticed that other reviewers have made mention of the prices. I didn't find any of the dishes priced any higher than they would be at comparable establishments. Following our meal, we ordered coffee and shared a bread pudding, which, in addition to being yummy, was enormous. More than enough for two people to share, and the sweet, cinnamon-y confection was the perfect companion for coffee. Our server, Scotty, was perfectly solicitous without being overbearing. We were in the dining room for 2 full hours, and never felt rushed or overlooked. This is the perfect spot for a romantic date or a special occasion. The dining room was quiet, and the jazz playing over the sound system was spot on. It was a truly lovely experience and we will be back, and often.

Dark and cozy, the old school music playing was enjoyable from the sound system, and then the live guitarist started his set, which was also very nice. My husband and I both enjoyed a cocktail, salads, and the Beef Wellington, which was delicious. Service was excellent and not too" over the top" or fussy. Casual dress code is nice. The other patrons were pleasant, and knew how to behave in such a nice establishment which also made our anniversary dinner so much more memorable!! We will definitely return to the Wellington!

What a great restaurant! The ambiance is fantastically rich and romantic. Our server Scotty was spot on-recommended the BEST bottle of "undiscovered" vino from the Central Coast and then described each menu item to a "T". Cris chose the grass-fed filet, which he swears is the best steak he's ever had; I selected lamb chops that were rubbed with EVOO, herbs (rosemary!) and harissa paste then served with feta cheese crumbles and chickpea/squash hash browns, giving them a deliciously Moroccan flavor. The service was outstanding and our overall experience was truly awesome and memorable. Chef Karrie Wells (also culinary genius at the Red Door located next door to The Wellington) is just plain brilliant. Can't wait to go back for more perfection

I came to this restaurant expecting some large 5-star location w/ a lot of traffic and interactive people. However, after almost driving by it...I was pleasantly surprise by this small exclusive location that was clearly very intimate and within a controlled environment. With no more than about 8 tables + bar seats...the area is controlled by attentive staff w/ quality food that clearly evolved w/ good detail. I found the price to be a bit higher than expected...but if you can afford the opportunity to spoil yourself, date, wife/husband...GO FOR IT. You will not be disappointed.

My husband and I had the steakhouse salad to start. The butter lettuce was room temp., not cool & fresh, as lettuce should be. My husband had the lamb. It was delicious. A little more on the rare side than he usually prefers, but very tender. I had the tomahawk Pork chop. It was overcooked, the meat was dry, & more fat content than actual meat. I wouldn't order it again. I probably would have ordered the 10 Oz ribeye, but they had ran out, & only had the larger size.

Wellington has great "old school" charm. Think Frank Sinatra/Dean Martin type of ambiance. It is very small and intimate. Great for couples and special occasions. Fantastic martini bar with lots of specialty drinks. Awesome menu. Three of us had their signature dish, Beef Wellington, and it was divine. One of us had the duck and it was delicious. We will definitely go back again!

Usually our steaks were done right. Maybe this is just our bad luck. This time it was a bit overcooked for medium rare. They were out of 2 items on a very limited menu. But we will come back. Every restaurant has an off night. Our server was very attentive and accommodating.

I was a little shocked at the size of the place when we first arrived. Smaller than expected. We quickly got over that. Overjoyed with exceptional service and food. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. I got the signature Beef Wellington, the reason for the visit... and it didn't disappoint. Cooked to perfection. The mushroom duxelle was very tasty and I was very happy they use grass fed filet mignon. I was a little jealous because my wife got the Colorado Rack of Lamb and it was the best lamb I've ever had and the harissa potato hash was a fantastic side. We finished with the Meyer Lemon Goat Cheese cheesecake. Yum. And the perfect bite for chocolate lovers. They served us a couple of truffles that were heaven.

The food and service were awesome!! I had the Namesake dish (the beef Wellington) and it did not disappoint! My husband enjoyed his filet as well. We went with another couple (who also loved their food) and we agreed this place is great for date night....or double date in this case. It is a smaller restaurant so not great for large groups but the Wellington is an excellent choice for a romantic or intimate setting. There are not a ton of seats so a reservation is probably a good idea. I can't wait to come back again and again!

It was dry and bland. So disappointed as this was our go to treat place and sadly we will not be back. Why do restaurants do this??

After eating at The Wellington numerous times, my latest experience was not nearly as good as my previous dinners there. It seemed as though the restaurant is almost struggling to stay open. There was noticeable decline in the overall appearance of the restaurant in part by a missing pendant light shade with just a cord and bulb hanging down above the bar, the broken soda machine behind the bar and both loose tabletops and chairs in use on the restaurant floor. It seems the attention to detail from my previous visits there have fallen off making The Wellington "just an average" dining place now. The service and food were good, but not anywhere near what they were before or what would allow me to call This place a great dining experience.

The restaurant was so dark that it was hard to read the menu! To top that off the type on the menu was small, which made it impossible to read in the dark. Bartender on duty seemed clueless. Asked for a Pimm's No1 Cup with soda. He asked me twice if I wanted Sprite or Club Soda. Duhhhh. Soda at a bar is CLUB SODA. I mean really. If I asked for Scotch and Soda, then would he have poured Scotch and Sprite? WOW.

Food - Wedge salad on menu said iceberg lettuce wedge - came with cut up butter lettuce, spouse's romaine lettuce salad was limp, the vegetables the waiter said came with the meal were entirely different when served. Steak was good. Service - good, but did wonder why 3 employees visited by the bar cash register most of evening. Also prices on menu through Open Table site do not match those on restaurant menu. This restaurant is losing its cache. Too bad.

I happened upon this place when looking for a place to have a nice dinner for a trip to San Diego. I have been trying to find a good beef wellington and with a name like The Wellington, I had to give it a shot. It was a bit difficult to find and there isn't a parking lot but past that, the interior is beautiful, our server was absolutely wonderful, friendly, knowledgable, and just the right about of attentive. The wellington was everything I had hoped it would be, delicious, a great portion, and cooked perfectly. There is really nothing negative that could be said about the whole experience.

I had a craving for beef wellington and this place hit the spot. Warning….it's really DIM inside, although it makes for a nice, romantic ambiance. It took a while to get used to the darkness, but it made it a little hard to read the menu LOL. I had to use my cellphone light to read it. I ate there on a weekday so parking wasn't bad at all. I was able to park right in front of the restaurant. All in all, I was very satisfied with the service and the food.

The Wellington is within walking distance of our home in Mission Hills, and it's a nice place for a decent local steak dinner. Our party was on time for our reservation but the table was slow to leave, so we ended up starting at the bar where the host comp'd our drinks. The waiter was attentive and very polite. Solid five stars for service! The salad was tasty and the entre (Ribeye with au poivre sauce) was delicious, but the vegetable side dish (spinach, broccolini and other green vegetables) were so salty you couldn't eat them. Others in our party had delicious fish and the beef Wellington was very good. We'll likely try this place again. Their service has certainly earned them a second chance.

We had read some mixed reviews but we really wanted to go out for a nice steak dinner. I'm not a steak eater so I opted for the fish special that I was assured was delicious. It was so overcooked that I mentioned it to my waiter. The chef made me a new entree that was only slightly less over cooked. I didn't say anything but they took it off my bill. So, I give them props for trying to make it right and being sensitive to their guests' experience. My husband's meal was very good but my son had the rib eye and he was definitely not overly enthusiastic about it. The atmosphere is lovely in the very small restaurant but don't go for the food.
